Grand Lake, sometimes referred to as the Grand Lake District, is one of the last remaining historic areas of Oakland. Nestled along Interstate 580 in northern Oakland, you’ll recognize the area for the unmistakable Grand Lake Theater. The theater is one of the East Bay Area’s biggest landmarks, namely for its neoclassical architecture and signature marquee. Grand Lake residents enjoy an almost small-town atmosphere with a walkable layout combined with long-standing homes and landmarks within this signature East Bay neighborhood.
Grand Avenue remains the neighborhood's main thoroughfare with most other streets winding through the hillsides. You’ll find historic homes and apartments in free-standing buildings. Commuting into San Francisco is easy thanks to the interstate to the south, Interstate 580. Residents also have access to public transportation via BART to commute around the rest of Oakland.

Property Ratings at 888 Vermont
I have lived in this building for many years. It was purchased a while ago and is now maintained by a property management company. They have done a lot of upgrading as well as fixing structural problems, and at times that work creates inconveniences—but most of it seems necessary. The current resident property manager (Mr. J.F.) has made projects easier to deal with. He is conscientious, communicates clearly to answer questions and provide specific information to clarify notices and plans. He clearly understands the building’s operational systems and issues and has been readily available (this sometimes includes pitching in physically). He does a first-rate, professional job and, so far, management has made living in this building more pleasant.
My wife was mugged outside of the building. Someone was murdered outside of the building. Thin walls, creaking ceilings every time your upstairs neighbor takes a step. Neighbors blare music, slam doors. Old building. Loud plumbing sounds through the wall. Management doesn't return emails. Lots of neighbor drama, especially on the second floor. They are updating units (annoying residents with endless construction) in an effort to rent these apartments at a higher price, but don't be fooled. Stay far, far away!!!!
