I relocated to this area a couple of years ago and I have found that living here has been mostly stress and worry free. I had a couple of issues with online payments but the office helped me work those issues out. Maintenance has not been a issue for me. I think they only have one guy but im not sure. What I know is when I call they come. They even work around my odd schedule the few times it was necessary. I enjoy living here.

My family and I have lived here for over 5 years now and weve been through several ownership changes.Luckily each change made the place better.I read some of the negative reviews about this place and maybe some of that could have been true many years ago but the place they are describing now does not feel anything like what we are experiencing which is why I am taking the time to post. Back in 2014 and 2015, I know for a fact that owner lost the property to foreclosure. He didn't spend any money on anything and the office basically existed so they could collect rent. At that time you couldn't get anything done but after the new owners purchased the place a few years ago we got Ken, the maintenance guy and I think Jessica in the office and things got better by a lot. Ken has been 100% responsive to everything we ever needed and I can often see him doing more than what's typical for repairs because they place is old and has not been maintained in years. They remodeled most apartments and made the place look so much better. I would like to know what we're the details of those that posted recent negative comments because I've seen, in my industry people take small problems and blow it up to a big problem in a vindictive way because what better way to get back at someone you had a disagreement with then to blow them up online and get your friends to do the same.If what they say represents Abbie Lane than my husband and I can't understand why we are not having the same problems. So I can't relate to these aweful experiences but then again my husband and I are reasonable people that won't over react if something goes a little wrong here and there. Anyway we appreciate Ken and Jamey and will be renewing our lease when its up in a few months.

I am happy with my experience as a resident at Abbey Lane. I have lived here just over a year and recently moved into a bigger apartment (which I love) at the complex to accommodate my family. If I have ever had anything that needed to be addressed, both Ken and Jaime, have made sure to take care of whatever it was that I needed. The pool, playground, and dog park are great also a plus.

Unless you absolutely need a place to live, avoid this place like the plague. All ground floor apartments are susceptible to mold. I lived there for 3 and a half years and my wife and I battled mold constantly. We finally got our apartment switched after one of our kids were hospitalized and even then they fought us. After we moved apartments and deep cleaned all our furniture, once winter began to let up go figure we got mold again. We left this apartment complex and bought a house.
Property Manager at Abbey Lane Apartments, Responded To This Review
I'm sorry you had issues while you were here. We are not aware of any current mold issues, but if a resident lets us know of problems we will address them as quickly as possible. The health and wellness of our residents is one of our top priorities. We will always go in to check out the issue and see what the best treatment and course of action is, as well as offer suggestions for actions the residents themselves can take to help our efforts. While I know you said you've left, please let us know if you have any further questions or if there's anything else we can help you with.
My partner and I moved into Abbey Lane in November of 2018. We noticed issues with maintenance within the first few months. The weatherstripping in the threshold of our one bedroom loft was completely shot. We did not notice this on our initial inspection, and we quickly noticed it with the cold months as there was a cold breeze through the cracks in the door, and our electric bill nearly tripled. This was mentioned to the leasing office and maintenance multiple times. Eventually, we ended up moving to a two bedroom loft and our moving fee was waived. On the initial inspection, we noticed many issues with the apartment. The leasing office consultant and maintenance reassured us that they would have the apartment move-in ready before our move in date. A contract was signed for a specific date, and it was time for us to move in. However, the date had to be pushed back because maintenance was not finished. So we moved in on the second move in date, and it was still not finished. Maintenance ended up working on the apartment as we were moving in. And it still was not completed that day. We ended up needing to give them one of the bedrooms to use for storage of their materials for items that needed repair. Following that, one of the showers had tiles falling behind the plastic liner for the tub and the toilet was missing a cover, so we had one bathroom that was unable to be used. Trim was missing around the apartment, closet doors were not attached, there were holes in doors and walls, outlets were missing covers, and drawers were missing handles just to mention a few of the issues. These again were addressed multiple times, and they were not worked on until months later - still not finishing many of the jobs. Multiple times we have had our issues pushed to the side and not rescheduled due to emergency maintenance. It has been over five months of living in this apartment, and there are still issues from day one. It is completely unacceptable. Whether it is a staffing issue, communication issue, or anything in between, I would not recommend Abbey Lane apartments.
My partner and I moved into one unit in November and decided we needed more space. After talking to the leasing agent we looked at a bigger unit and did multiple walk throughs. We noticed there was a lot of work that needed to be done and were promised it was going to be fixed before we moved to the other unit. When we moved in maintenance was rushing to get stuff done. We were left with the down stairs room full of stuff as well as the down stairs bathroom having tiles fall out of the seal. The toilet had no over. There were no closet doors put up and outlet covers were missing. Blinds were missing or very destroyed. Doors has holes in it, closets were missing the bar to hang anything. There are still missing tiles in the kitchen and incomplete work. We’ve been in touch with maintenance and the leasing agent and they’ve been very unprofessional and rude through our everything and still not making the effort to fix the last of the list we sent from when we moved into the new unit.
Love where you live!! I have been a renter since I was 18 years old and have had my fair share of management and maintenance. Since moving from out of comfort zone over a year ago. I am so satisfied with this community. The staff- management and maintenance are more than responsive. I am a needy high maintenance girl and was such to say the least when I initially moved in. I immediately felt cared for and was amazed from the responsiveness of the team to my list of needs which were all checked off. Anything that has ever come up is resolved almost immediately to guaranteed satisfactory. It is such a pleasant place to live and is constantly being upgraded.

Sarah, Thank you for the awesome 5 Star rating. The team here at Abbey Lane greatly appreciates you taking the time to give us such positive feedback on our community. We're constantly striving to provide 100% satisfaction for our residents and it’s really nice to hear that in your experience we’re succeeding. Stay tuned though, we have even more improvements on the way. And we hope they’ll make your daily life here with us even better. In the meantime, enjoy your time by the pool and just let us know when that umbrella needs a bit more adjustment. :-) The Abbey Lane Management Team
They have repeatedly lied about fixing the pool last year, which turned slime green. Still haven't opened the pool up this year even after memorial day. They're losing tenants and can't fill apartments because they're charging nearly what people can get for renting a house. And they responded to several other reviews on here saying they're new management and maintenance. That's a flat out like as the maintenance guy has been here for years and the manager has been here for nearly a whole year. Avoid this place like the plague
Property Manager at Abbey Lane Apartments, Responded To This Review
We are disappointed to hear that you feel you’re having a less than satisfactory experience at our Abbey Lane community. It’s very difficult to respond to anonymous critiques, especially when they are not entirely accurate, but we’ll do our best to address your comments. It’s true that we have been managing the community for almost a year now and we think you’d have to admit there have been notable and positive changes in that time. Apartment homes are being renovated, the grounds are being improved and the community center has also been substantially updated. If you were around at the end of last season you would also have noted the significant improvements to the entire pool area. Residents were able to enjoy the sparkling blue water, newly resurfaced pool deck with comfortable furniture and a brand new grilling area. And yes, the pool opening was delayed a couple of days due to numerous rounds of severe weather that struck our area this spring. It is now open. So, we can certainly assure you that the assertion that residents have been lied to is simply not correct. As we have said all along, the work to improve the Abbey Lane community is ongoing and will take time to complete everything we have planned. We sincerely appreciate the patience our residents have demonstrated and it’s our hope that they will enjoy their homes here for many years to come. The Abbey Lane Management Team
Not even sure where to begin. Numerous requests, weeks go by without even an acknowledgement that you put in a request. Do NOT count on getting anything fixed unless its a dire emergency. Price is too high, any new leases / or renewing leases will be charged a utility fee. When asked what that is... was told a portion of the water, sewer, and trash.. wait a minute- that's supposed to be included. Renovation fees include painted cabinets, new counter tops, new appliances (if one breaks, good luck getting it serviced), and imitation hardwood floors in the kitchen. Doors, knobs, bathrooms, carpet, closets are from a LONG time ago, always breaking (never replaced) but just hammered to work. Cant really blame maintenance because its basically 1 guy doing all the fixes. They have 1 apartment manager to mange the entire 100 apartments. Numerous turnovers and this is WITH new management. The apartment manager always answers with a cheery voice but quickly turns when its a concern or maintenance request. If you're desperate and need something short term? Sure. If you want to live in a quality apartment please find somewhere else. Anywhere in Chesterton is a LOT nicer. If you get your 1st month's rent free... that has to be a warning right??
Please don’t live here. I don’t have enough time or words to write a response worthy of how terrible this apartment complex is. Every month we have paid to live here. Paid too much to be exact. Every month we have paid on time. We have received 3 notices of eviction taped to our door saying we have not paid our rent. When we had to use MANAGEMENTS computer WITH management present to print out proof of payment, they then a week later harassed my husband and said they only received one of the months and not the other and told him “they are very organized and wouldn’t have lost it” !!! Weeks later another taped note to the door now saying we didn’t pay this months. She not only accepted payment, but made a receipt, and then signed said receipt. But we didn’t pay? Must not know the definition of perjury. The attitude, disrespect, lack of professionalism, and outright stupidity from these people is embarrassing. Mind you these are the NEW owners. They changed the name, slapped some cheap wood up, new lounge chairs for the pool that’s still not open as of June 16th, and planted some flowers. Minor cosmetics when we have outlets hanging out of our wall, a filthy laundry room, inside smoking neighbors that fill our apartment with smoke, poop covered uncut lawns, hallways riddled with dead bugs and dirt, no pool in 90 degree weather, an apartment that was not cleaned after the renters before us.... The maintenance guy walked into my apartment unannounced while I was showering and walked through my home ignoring me yelling for my husband and my dog barking at him. Nothing is ever fixed. We had to buy our own things to fix our broken faucet that flew off at me my first day in my new home, our broken balcony door, 2 cabinets that literally fell off from me opening them, trim coming off the wall... My husband and I both work and aren’t even home often enough to cause a disturbance here. We treat everyone with respect and have made friends with the neighbors (that have now all been evicted) We have done nothing but what we are supposed to. The only thing we can do now is wait for our lease to end and get as far away from here as possible. If you want a home, security, truth, communication, kind management, sanitation, peace and quiet...I would not waste your money here.

Thank you for your comments, and you are correct, new ownership and management have recently taken over at the Abbey Lane community. We truly hope you can understand that we are trying to make this transition as easy as possible while dealing with a host of left over problems. And we do see how frustrating this can be for residents as we begin to tackle these situations and proceed with what we believe to be very exciting renovations and amenity upgrades. While we know the process has not been perfect, we are trying to make your new resident experience a great one, and we can’t wait for you to live the difference! Please know that our management office door is always open, and we welcome the necessary discussions of your individual issues. We apologize for the inconveniences and your continued patience is sincerely appreciated as we move forward.
I highly recommend never considering these apartments while out looking. I’ve had nothing but issues since living here! Barrington Bridge was the name of the complex when I moved in, while not saying they were the best but staff were some what polite and actually had communication skills. Just recently a new ownership took over the property (Abbey Lane). Since Abbey Lane took over they introduced themselves by putting past due notices resulting in eviction notices on numerous residents doors including my own. You’d think this would of been taken care professionally between the two companies before new ownership began. I’d never missed a rent payment nor late since living here and come home to that. Abbey lane staff then made me responsible to get information (pay fee) to trace money order that they misplaced or claimed to not have receive. Recently have had no a/c for the past week and called to notify Abbey Lanes's emergency maintenance, mind you temperatures in the upper 90’s with apartment being in the mid 80’s. Was then told to keep hydrated and blinds closed they couldn’t get anyone out to the property until the following week (1&1/2-2 weeks) now at best!!! The complex is ran completely unprofessional and office staff has absolutely no communication skills or sense of loyalty to they’re residents at all! Please please just save yourself the trouble and look past this place when searching for a new home!

Thank you for taking the time to send us important feedback on your experience with the Abbey Lane Community. As you know, the change in ownership and management for this property is quite new and we want to make the transition as smooth as possible. We do understand that there can be a frustrating catchup period as we try to get past problems and issues taken care of as quickly as possible. There is a lot to be done, so some of the changes being made are temporary until the longer term and more permanent solutions can take place. We’re sure that by now you’ve received notifications of the planned upgrades and we hope that you can have a little patience with us as we make our way through the long list of renovations and exciting additions you will soon be experiencing. Please know we are doing our best to provide the best resident experience for all of our residents and we invite you to stop by the management office to discuss your individual issues. In the meantime, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and potential errors that may occur.
I moved here w/ the intentions that it was better. And I was completely WRONG, I moved in to my apartment & it wasn't cleaned AT ALL from the previous tenants. Everything was broke or old, managentment is VERY unprofessional & unorganized. I got told that I should've never signed the lease if I felt they were unprofessional. Ppl let their dogs poop anywhere, and don't pick it up. I gave her $650 for my dog fee & security deposit, and the following week she wanted me to give her $800 for rent. I STRONGLY RECOMMENED TO LOOK ELSEWHERE. THESE APARTMENTS ARE TERRIBLE. VERY UPSET I HAVE TO STAY FOR 6 MONTHS.
I just moved in 2 weeks ago, and things are good so far. I like how it's right across the street from the post office, which is really convenient for me. The pool is always clean, and even though I don't swim I've been wanting to learn so I'm hoping to take advantage of it sometime next year. The staff has been very friendly every time I have interacted with them, and haven't had any problems with the neighbors.
Barrigton bridge has an amazing community. All my neighbors are lovely. We have a little apartment family that is growing. We have cookouts together and everything else. The maintenance never fixes anything so don't count on that and the landlord is almost never to be seen or will not reply back to you. They keep the place pretty unsanitary. If you want to be by good people and not such a great landlord and maintenance this is the place, but I would safe your money and find somewhere else.
