River is a suburb in South Newport News that stretches along the James River. This quaint community travels along Warwick Boulevard, connecting the neighborhood south into Downtown Newport News and north towards Christopher Newport University. There’s also an Amtrak station available to commuters that sits on the north end of town near Huntington Park, a sprawling green space that offers a beautiful beach, a large playground overlooking the river, athletic fields, and more. Nearby is the James River Fishing Pier and Crab Shack on the James, a casual spot with fresh seafood, burgers, and cocktails. There are a few other businesses in town, but the remainder of River is residential. Although homes in the area don’t overlook the river, residents enjoy stately homes on tree-lined streets with paved sidewalks at an affordable rate.

Property Ratings at Admiral Pointe
I love it. I had a great experience. Thank you for the warm welcome
i would give a 0 star if i could. my 1 year of living here was tragic. i overlooked the comment but i was in for a surprise. they have roaches as your neighbor and the walls are paper thin. every unit should be torn down. it was a starter apartment and i will never look back. single mom here and every night i would see my kids un happy . its kids in the community that would knock on your door and run away. imagine trying to get some sleep !
These apartments have so many unidentified bugs, it is ridiculous. No matter how much you clean and keep your place clean, the bugs won’t go away because it’s infested. Don’t waste your time.
Nasty, dirty, bug infested. Someone was shot against my car, kidnapped up out the parking lot in day light, and shot behind my building in the year that I lived here. Traffic is bad because it’s right by the shipyard. No easy access to the interstate. Roaches EVERYWHERE rats too. Went 3 weeks without my AC working and then when they couldn’t fix it they brought me 1 single window unit for the 2 bedroom apartment AND charged me for it. Only upside is it’s cheap but that cheapness is because it’s terrible.
I had lived there for YEARS and have had NO problems until the last two management teams! THEY REFUSE TO FIX ANYTHING!!!!! I had NO roaches the FIRST SIX YEARS there-all of a sudden, ROACHES coming out of the woodworks! Management is ALWAYS UNORGANIZED!!! They do EVERYTHING last minute and want to rush and threaten you to get it done on time and they NEVER have everything ready at once-it ALWAYS takes two to three visits/transactions to complete ONE TASK! You can no longer pay your rent online (which was very helpful when I had to go out of town), you have to wait about ten months for small things to be fixed, the place is FULL of mold and the window/door frames are always rusting and all they ever do is paint over them! They have very poor lighting outside and are always claiming that they're going to fix this, they take FOREVER to clean/remove any trash left around the dumpsters! They speak to some of the tenants any kind of way. I mean I felt like I was living in some sort of halfway house for the recently-released convicts! DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!!!
I stayed at Admiral Pointe for six years and seven months with my mom and baby brother. We moved there when I was in 7th grade in middle school. At first it was a transition from a house to an apartment but their leasing staff made it feel welcoming. However that was back from 2011-2014 when they weren't under the new management in New York. When that happened everything changed. They started hiring people that weren't ethical and didn't care for or about the residents like Ms. Dana and Ms. Erica. They will be petty and will write you up for childish stuff or things that's not in your control like their appliances breaking down. Ms. Connie is a the leasing consultant and is the sweetest person there. IF YOU HAVE TO GET ANYTHING DONE GO THROUGH HER! The buildings are older but the views at the marina are cool and good for lunch dates and getting away from reality. Also, if you stay on any building that is on River Road make sure that you are out where you need to be before shipyard traffic or you will be stuck, if you don't believe me better ask somebody! Make sure work orders are done before they (Ms. Erica) tries to blame it on you. Good first apartment try it out! But beware ONLY GO SEE, TALK TO, WORK WITH MS. CONNIE OR ELSE!!!!!!!
Its been several years now and living here is wonderful!!! The space, the quiet neighborhood, and I've never experienced any bug issues!! The staff is just amazing! They treat you like family, and maintenance is always quick to respond to any concerns. Being close to EVERYTHING is the best! I mean HELLO the beach is literally down the street! Shopping is right around the corner, the gym, parks, nature trails etc.....sooooo many convenient things and what an affordable rate for the rent! My kid is in a great school not far from home, and unlike some places...I FEEL SAFE HERE! #HappyInAdmiralPointe!
This place has a ant, mice, roaches, bed bug infestation is an understatement. And exterminator spray is watered down. The property manager likes putting people out... Garbage is not picked up on a regular basis. This place needs lots of work. One star only because it is needed to submit this. Just because people who do not want to pay high rents or can not afford them does not mean they need to live in a place like this......
Nice apartments for the price although they do have a roach problem. The neighborhood itself is quiet and evrbdy seems pretty nice I just dnt like the roaches...unless they get rid of the roaches I will not n renewing my lease.
bug infested !!!!!! bug infested!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bug infested bug infested !!!!!!!!!!!!!bad maintenance people and sorry office workers .. nasty property, and bad contractors... hate living here
