Historically one of the economic and cultural powerhouses of the Midwest, Detroit is full of people who are working towards redevelopment and revitalization. Known as the origin of the automobile industry, the Motor City is moving towards a future of economic opportunity with roots far beyond the world of cars. The cost of living is low while rental rates for apartments, condos, and houses are highly attractive for any budget.
Monuments paying tribute to Detroit’s rich history are everywhere while astonishing architecture and public artwork is scattered throughout the city. As the birthplace of Motown, Detroit has a long tradition of producing legendary musicians like Diana Ross and Stevie Wonder. This tradition continues today and it’s easy to find live performances from every genre.
The city is a great destination for sports lovers as one of the few American cities with major leagues in football, baseball, basketball, and hockey.

Property Ratings at Alden Towers
First apartment and they gave me the blues! Leasing manager is rude/ has the worst attitude. No one communicates or tells the truth. Worst first experience.

This place is the worst! I wet to tour the apartment the other day really liked the place. I was excited to know I was getting an apartment. Went online to fill out the application they asked for $255 deposit which included the application fee. I hit the submit button as I'm waiting on my payment confirmation they had already sent a decline letter to me. How is that when I just submitted my payment and application. Not Evan two minutes ago. So I called the manager and said they don't make the decision which was a lie. I asked for my money to be refunded back to me she said it will take seven to thirty days. How when you took my money in two seconds. What is the point of me giving you two hundred if I was going to get turned down why was I not provided a screening criteria list before I applied and you took my money. I got played they will take your money

Hi there. Due to the anonymity of this review, we are unable to identify you as a resident. Please stop by our office so we properly can address these claims in the most efficient way possible. Thank you and we hope to hear from you promptly.
The staff was so friendly and helpful, and the building was absolutely beautiful. Angelica was my leasing consultant and she provided outstanding service. This building really has it all. Gorgeous views, great amenities, and historical charm. Not mad about it!
I’ve lived here for a little over a year now, and I still love it. There are some drawbacks, as with any old building. There are some pests, but as long as you keep your apartment clean and have some Raid spray on hand, it’s really not a big deal (I see a bug maybe once every few months in my apartment). The maintenance staff is amazing and works very quickly. The leasing office staff is also very friendly and helpful. They also have a cleaning crew that comes in a few days a week and cleans all of the common areas. Everyone in the building is really friendly and it’s a great community. They recently replaced all the doors so they are not propped open anymore and there is a security guard on duty when the office is closed. I’ve never felt unsafe living here. I have never had an issue with laundry, there are always machines open and they clean it regularly. I live in a 1 bedroom and it’s very spacious, and the vintage details in the apartments are beautiful. It’s not right downtown, but it is a great location near Belle Isle, Indian Village, and about a 10 minute drive to downtown. If it were anywhere closer to downtown, it would probably be double the price. Overall, it’s a great place to live and I would definitely recommend it!

Been trying to get a response for a week and a half. Their phones route directly to voice-mail and their mailbox is full. it's also pretty clear they don't check their emails either. Guess they don't want our money?

Based on the information provided, we are unable to reach out to you. We apologize you were not able to reach us, we have been very busy leasing our apartment homes. We look forward to speaking with you soon.
I lived here for a year. If location is your first priority, this is a good option. I lived in a studio and it was very small and cozy. The bathroom often had problems. I experienced multiple leaks from the ceiling, issues with the plumbing, and poor water pressure. The complex is lacking in safety measures as well, often the side doors were propped and people would walk the halls, such as food delivery and others. The water was shut off for an entire day more than once a month.

Never in my life have I lived in a place with so many inconveniences. I am almost finished with my lease and I’m grateful to be out of here. To start off, the place is old. I love that this place kept the vintage charm, and it has a great location on the water. With that being said this place comes with a lot of challenges. First, the whole place is infested with bugs. Cockroaches, centipedes, silver fish, you name it, they got it. Second, I hope you don’t live any higher than the third floor. Why? Because the elevator(at least in D tower) NEVER works. I lived on the 8th floor and the elevator has been down for over a week, just recently. It’s went down 5 times within the last two months. Not only is the elevator terrifying to ride when it’s operable, don’t expect it to work for very long when it does. I also hope you don’t have friends or like to entertain. There is no parking available for guests. If you park in front of the gate they will still sticker your car with the threat of it being towed. They also don’t allow you to let people into the lot. The female security guard yelled at my friend who was living here at the time, and said she couldn’t come through the gate to the back, to help me bring stuff into my apartment. We had to walk all the way from the street, TO THE VERY BACK BY THE WATER, hands full of heavy bags and fragile items. Laundry is a nightmare. Not only are both rooms not a close distance to the majority of the apartments but, all of the washers by D tower smell like mold, the credit card readers on most of them are broken and your card will get stuck and not come out. Maintenance is friendly and works quickly, although the soap holder in my bathroom has fallen off of the wall 3 times and I don’t even use it because it continues to break off due to not being attached properly. The office staff are all pleasant too. All in all, this place is a huge headache but the people are nice I guess. I can’t wait to be out of here.

I’m trying to move in to Alden Towers and Erin was very helpful and informative. She answered all of my questions and very patient with me. Great office staff!!!
Pros: The apartment units are nice. Not all of them have the nice stainless steel appliances and bay windows you see in the pictures though. The boardwalk on the water can be beautiful on a summer day. The staff in the office are friendly. Cons: You don’t really have control over the heat in your room in the winter. They use steam and only they can turn it on and off. Sometimes it can get unbearably hot and muggy in my room. You don’t really have control over the utilities either. In the leasing office they told me utilities would be determined by my usage but that’s not really true for water and sewerage. They just divide the total bill for the entire building among all the tenants without regard to your actual usage. I live in a 300 st ft studio with no dishwasher and my water bill was $61 last month. They also shut the water off every 2-3 weeks to do maintenance. The water is usually off for an entire day so you can’t cook or shower that day. The valet doesn’t always lock my car when they bring it out in the morning. I asked them about it more than once and they got argumentative with me. I don’t think asking them to push the lock button is asking a lot. When I moved in I paid a few months rent in advance. Low and behold I got a notice attached to my door saying rent was late for the first month I paid in advance. I work when the office is open, so I emailed the office about and it took them three weeks to respond.
For the price and location definitely a great option. However, don't expect the office to answer when you call or the maintenance. My Laundry and bicycles have been stolen, security was uninterested in the situation and even removed missing item signs. Bugs in the basement. The basement floods and it smells. Parking for guest is a nightmare if you live in C or D tower and if you're home after midnight don't expect to find a spot near your unit. Dumpsters in the parking lot are unpleasant. The new management is much better than the old but seems to be more reactive than proactive. Regardless, the units sell themselves, great views and love being next to Belle Isle
Oh Alden Towers. Such a mess over there. Please, let me tell you of the nightmare that has been living at Alden Towers. There is so much wrong with this place. The thing that promoted me to write this review is that they 1. refused to return my deposit for over TWO months (and would not return phone calls for the longest time, by the way renters, legally your deposit should be returned within 30 days,) and 2. when I finally did get that check, after threatening legal action, I cashed it and THE NEXT DAY they debited my account without my consent for the deposit amount of the check I'd just cashed AND a $10 fee. So instead of getting the deposit money that I waited 2 months for (which was illegal,), they actually, incredibly, conned me out of another $10. Put me in a precarious financial state twice because they're messing around with my bank account and money that isn't theirs. I can't process how terrible this place is. Let's not forget about the fact that there have been 2 serious power outages in that building in the past 2 years that left seniors and the disabled trapped for days due to outdated infrastructure. Thankfully I was moved out by the time the 2nd one hit. When the first one happened last year they just blatantly lied and blamed it on DTE. How is all of this legal? It's not. Also, when I first moved in, I had no kitchen light for 5 months due to an electrical issue and had to practically beg them to fix it. Now I'm begging for my deposit. And yes, I know Village Green bought the property recently, and Triton Management was a nightmare, etc. But you guys. It's been 2 months. And these power outages? Ridiculous rent hikes? Weird bugs in the basement? Refusing to return a deposit? It's not ok. This is where people live. Not an inconvenience to you. This is home for a lot of people. If I could give it negative stars I would. The one star is for the view of the river, which they don't own. Anyway, please, skip this place when looking for apartments, unless you want to chase them down for your deposit and enjoy being without power for days. If you want an apartment that causes you undue stress even after you've left this is the place for you.

We lost power. There are no security lights when power goes out. No back up generator. Left us without power for 3 days. Building has not been maintained. Raw sewage. Smells bad too.
Property Manager at Alden Towers, Responded To This Review
Hello, and thank you for leaving your feedback for Alden Towers. We sincerely apologize for the experience you have had with our community. We did have a recent power outage that effected our community and surrounding businesses in the area. This power outage was due to two mainline breaks, which we are happy to report were fully repaired by DTE. Our team worked closely with our management company to ensure residents were updated as repairs progressed via Facebook and text, and temporary lighting was installed in all common areas for our residents during the outage. Our team was also on-hand for any resident who needed additional assistance, and our sister properties, Detroit City Apartments and Renaissance City Apartments, welcomed any residents who needed or wanted to utilize the facilities. We truly appreciate the patience all of our residents showed during that time, and we are so thankful to DTE for restoring the power. We are also happy to report the sewage line was repaired, and our team is currently working on a full replacement to ensure this issue does not occur in the future. Again, we do deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused our residents, and we would like to follow up with you via an in-person meeting to ensure your satisfaction, and learn if there is anything more our team can to do help. We value the feedback you have given us and we will use it to continue making improvements to our community. Should you wish to discuss your experience with us personally, or if you have any questions or concerns we can help resolve, please, do not hesitate to reach out to us at the office. We are available at your convenience at 313-824-1310 or aldpropmgr@villagegreen.com. Thank you, Andrew F., Property Manager
This is the absolute worst apartment building to live in ever - and its 100% because of employees who work in the office downstairs, and the realtor company that owns it. The employees in the office are always rude and unhelpful. The only employees that are helpful are the security staff and the maintenance staff. They are fantastic, and they are quick too. The building was out of power the last 24 hours (every building/business around us on the same street had power by the way). There are no hazard/safety lights on our floor, or in the stairwell. Very dangerous. I saw one floor had working safety lights, but that was all. I decided to call the apartment building to see what was going on, because they have no way of contacting tenants AT ALL. The employee who answered, said she had no idea if the power was on, because she was in Colorado. They have an answering system that doesn't even direct your call to your building!! I asked for a direct number to our office in our building, but she said she couldn't give me that information. So I have no way of finding out any information. They say they have free wi-fi, but its the spottiest/worst wi-fi. You have to manually re-connect every 10-15 minutes or so. Their "Wi-Fi support team" doesn't even have a direct number to call, it always goes to voicemail. This company will do anything to not actually talk to its tenants. The property is absolutely beautiful, but the building is cheaply renovated, and the realtor company is poorly run. No customer service to be heard of.
I have been in my apartment for a little over a month and have been very impressed. From the beginning my leasing agent (Courtney) was SO helpful and patient with me. She was always so quick to get back with me with any questions I had and she really made it such a smooth process. The building itself is older and with that comes some issues here and there such as elevator maintenance or the apartments running a little hot but overall I am very happy with my choice.
Alden Towers is one of the worst places I've ever lived. The first day we moved in the elevators stopped working on us and we were trapped inside for two and a half hours. This has happened since and every time we had to call 911 to get the fire department to come out and help us. We first tired to call the office and maintenance but there was no answer. After the multiple elevator incidences no one from the office ever reached out to us to see if everything was okay, they just didn't seem to care at all. The elevators are always out of service so most times you will be taking the stairs, there's 8 floors. They have a large laundry room that looks convenient but the fact is over half of the washers and dryers don't work so there is always a wait to use them. Your best beat is to do laundry during the day on a week day, the wait is shorter. The valet is a feature they like to talk about but its more of an inconvenience. The valet employees are extremely rude and if they park your car or bring it to you they drive your car with very little respect. So watch out walking through the garage because they don't watch for you. If you have company over the apartment complex makes them pay $5 if they stay longer then 2 hours. The free wifi they offer dose not work very well especially after 5pm. You'll need to get your own internet service if you want reliable wifi. Over all the employees in the office will not care about any of your concerns, maintenance requests, basically anything once you sign your lease. There is also a large manager turn over in this building so that kind of shows what kind of place this is.The apartments seem to have issues with roaches and once the heat is turned on in the winter it gets unbearably warm and you have no control over the heat. There is not central air and they say you can not have an air conditioning unit so its really hot in the summer. If I use my microwave it causes a power outage in my apartment. So I can't use it and maintenance will not fix it or call any outside help to fix the issue. This apartment complex is one to skip while apartment hunting. The girls working in the office are enough of a reason to pass on this place.
Alden Towers is my very first place! I've never lived on my own and really didn't know what to expect but I can say that I was very pleased with this building! I absolutely love waking up to a beauty view of the water every single day! I live in the D Tower so I'm closest to the water and I love it! I have a 2 bedroom/2 Bath and it's lovely. I did notice that some things seem to have been rushed, like the walls in some spots, the paint in the shower, etc. But overall I love my place! The kitchen is a bit cramped and the cabinets are so small that I can hardly place my pots and pans but still, it's all new appliances, dishwasher, microwave, very nice. I just moved in about 2 weeks ago and it was chilly out, but the heat felt very nice inside! I love all the closet space! I have at least 6 closets and I have plenty of shoes and clothes to fill every one, lol! The hardwood floors are very nice, the ceiling fans are a very nice touch as well. Everyone that I've invited over fell in love instantly. The only negative thing I have to say is the leasing office doesn't always seem to be on one accord. My access badge never worked so I cannot access anything like the fitness room or the laundry room or even let myself into the building! I've tried multiple times to get this fixed but it still does not work. Also parking always seems to be full for guests and they are forced to park blocks away. Other than that I really like my place and can't wait to really make my place my own!
I have been living in Alden Towers for a little over two years and I love it. The character of the apartments is awesome. the close proximity to the Detroit River is great. The amenities such as the free WIFI, Laundry Facility and Fitness Center are great. I don't visit the office often but when I do some not all of the young ladies that work in there tend to have attitudes as if they do not wish to be there. Customer service is vital when dealing with tenants but they do not seem to take that into consideration. there have been 4 managers in the little over two years that I have lived there - not sure why so much turn around. The maintenance has a direct email and they always respond right away. Like I said I love living there, I love the valet service and I hope that they will include a store of some sort in the future (there used to be one under the old ownership). If asked if I would recommend living there - I would say yes.
I have lived in Alden Towers for 3 months now, it was my first apartment and it has beautiful units and in a beautiful upcoming location which is what caught my eye. I love the historic value of the building and how well kept it has been over the years. I currently live in a one bedroom which I am in love with. Its big enough to comfortably house my boyfriend and our 2 furry pets but small enough to be cozy. Neighbors are a breeze. I expected to have some noisy neighbors but because the building was built in the early 1920's the cement walls make it almost impossible to hear your neighbors. The apartment comes with up to date paint, and modernized kitchen utilities. The hot water tank is ALWAYS up to par. As for the cons of Alden Towers, my biggest complaint would have to be the staff & parking policy. Parking is $60 per vehicle in a gated lot with valet supervising 24 hours. Now, it sounds like a decent deal until you have 2 people on the lease which makes parking $120 a month, that I'm not so fond of. Alden's leasing office is a circus. After you sign the lease they disappear. The office often closes for impromptu meetings. Also, maintenance, while suppose to be fixing my furnace, went into my cupboards and refrigerator to help themselves to an icy glass of water without even asking or letting me know. When confronted, they denied everything. SO, moral of the story; don't let maintenance in without keeping an eye out. Other than that I love the apartment. One of the residents recently invited all the residents to the Detroit Yacht Club for tour and pool party. A lot of friendly faces in an upcoming environment right off the water.
Amazing view of the water, I want to switch my apartment building to a view of the water and a bigger space. Office is very unprofessional and un trained. Building is quite no complains on that, Valet is a joke. Love my appliances and apartment set up. NEEDS air conditioning. I stay on the 8th floor (Heat rises) very very hot in the summer.
Alden Towers is a beautiful building, built in the 1920's and recently remodeled. The remodel is gorgeous, although some aspects seem a bit hurried, with chipping paint and issues with the dry wall in the kitchen. However, maintenance is very quick to respond when you contact them directly. There is a huge bay window in nearly every unit, large enough for seating or table and chairs. Gas stove was a major selling point for me!! Two large laundry rooms, each with 16 brand new washers and dryers, which accept major credit cards. The 4 towers are connected and span the distance from Jefferson to the Detroit River. Seating and a grille in the lovely yard on the river. Just a few miles outside of downtown Detroit, and only a mile away from the Belle Isle bridge. Gorgeous location, friendly neighbors, I love living at Alden Towers!
Very clean environment, friendly staff, wonderful workout room, key card excess. Beautiful view of the Detroit river rite behind the apt.
