Venice Beach is brimming grit and LA character. This colorful, coastal locale sits in the west side of Los Angeles, and is known for its laid-back, eclectic energy.
You’ll find a distillation of Venice Beach in the street performers, bodybuilders, and beach-goers that congregate at its namesake Beach and Boardwalk. There’s an equally entertaining mix of restaurants, bars, and shops along the boardwalk. You can get your poke and a tattoo all within an afternoon. Even though Venice has retained a lot of its character from the formative Beat Generation that congregated in the neighborhood, there’s plenty of everyday offerings just off the beach. You’ll find premiere local and designer boutiques along Abbot Kinney Blvd, along with food trucks stationed there every first Friday.
There’s a variety of listings here. You’ll find newer, pricier apartments closer to waterfront, with the more characterful listings closer to Lincoln Blvd.

Property Ratings at Alessio
Please take the time and read the horrible reviews for this apartment complex, they are all true. I wish I had saved myself the trouble and listened to the bad reviews. I have lived in this apartment for 3 years, and the past few months this place has gone down hill fast. There is not enough room to discuss all the horrible experiences I have had living here, but I will hit the highlights. In the past 3 weeks, my car has been broken into TWICE. The 24/7 security is useless. When I called to report the issue, I was told by security that they would be reviewing the camera footage and an investigation would be occurring. When I followed up, I was told by property management that they would not review any camera footage, would not be doing an investigation, and my car is my responsibility. Cars are broken into and stolen directly out of the gated garage constantly. I had a $500 package stolen out of the mailroom. I called to report the issue and was told by the property management that they would be reviewing the cameras. After a few days, I followed up and was told packages are my responsibility and there will be no investigation. This apartment complex has gone downhill the past few months. There are constantly large groups of people just hanging out in the hallways, wandering around, drinking, smoking, being loud. Our neighbor was standing out front yesterday and someone STOLE HER DOG. I have been harassed and screamed/cursed at by random people in the garage. Me and my roommate have been followed by people and have had weird items left outside our door. Creepy men constantly are harassing us, and took photos of us in the hot tub. Dogs are always off leash and have attacked my dog. No one picks up after their dogs. This apartment complex is VERY UNSAFE. I have never in my life felt so unsafe living somewhere. My biggest problem with Alessio Apartments is the property management DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE TENATS. My issue is not entirely with the crime that is occurring - we live in Los Angeles, car break-ins, packages getting stolen happen from time to time. My biggest issue is with how the property management team responds when I reach out to get help with these situations. There is never any sympathy, no apologies for my belongings being stolen, no "we're here to help." They always throw the lease in your face and say your belongings are your responsibility, and they will do nothing to help you. Do yourself a favor AND DO NOT MOVE HERE.
Property Manager at Alessio, Responded To This Review
We're really sorry to hear about your experience. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us identify areas for improvement. We will be discussing with our security team to ensure they are addressing situations such as yours in the correct manner, but to also increase patrol in areas that may be needed more than others. As you stated, Los Angeles is a city where crime occurs quite often. Please know that crime prevention is a top priority of ours, but despite our efforts, we hope you understand that we cannot guarantee the safety and security fully. Unfortunately, when residents do experience a break-in or theft, we encourage all residents who experience a theft or break in to file a police report. Then, our team will work with local authorities in providing any available footage or information that may assist with your situation. If you have this information, please feel free to forward the information and our team can work with LAPD. We value your residency and want to create an environment that meets your expectations. If you would like to connect further, please give us a call at 310-568-2773. - Diana D, Community Relations Manager
Apparently beautiful place, but poor management. Noise from intense neighbors, every day. And they don't solve anything. I never bothered so much, total regret. If you don't want a headache, delete this place. You arrive with a problem to solve and it is never solved. The manager is terrible, inept. I never lived in a place where people can do anything, party until late at night, noise, screams and everything is fine. The others need, after a busy day, to listen to everything, because it is land without law. There are no rules here. You pay dearly to bother. I will not recommend it to anyone. NEVER.
Bad place to live. They care about the resident only until they close the contract. After that, what counts for them is money that you pay per month. And if you go on social media to complain, they block it. Worst experience of life. Place with noisy and rude neighbor.
At first the structure may attract your attention, but make no mistake. The office only cares about a resident when signing the contract, after that any problem other than maintenance, they wrap you up when they can. And they don't solve anything. There is no concern for noisy neighbors, they place anyone and there are terrible, noisy, rude neighbors who have loud parties. What looks like a dream becomes hell.
Fake luxury. Live somewhere else. Any amount that you might save through their rent specials could be offset by how many packages you will have stolen. I've had so many stolen in the 3 months I've lived here. Many of my friends here have also had packages stolen. I can't tell if management cares because they haven't done anything like put up lockers or hold all packages like literally any other building i've lived in. I had to personally contact postal inspectors and law enforcement. Theft is rampant here. A neighbor's car was broken into (in the underground garage) and they smashed his windows. After complaining about the stolen packages they told me I should have them delivered somewhere else or I should personally put up a camera. Lol. Many provisions of the lease don't seem to be actively enforced so if you have a charcoal barbecue that makes a huge smell and causes smoke to go into a neighbor's house. I constantly see people drinking beer in the parking structure or smoking pot. Not a problem for me, but I'd prefer if they did it in their own apartment if they actually live here. If they're homeless then I get it, they don't have anywhere else to do this. The property can be kind of overly lit at night. This is an easy fix though. Many of the neighbors put up shower curtains on their patio or aluminum foil on the windows. I suppose you can pay $150 for blackout shades but several neighbors clearly went the DIY route. Visitor parking, if you can find a spot, seems to be rarely enforced and I've seen cars parked there for months. Not really sure why anybody pays for a spot. Security is so meh. Anybody could just drive right in behind a resident or say they forgot their key, or say they're delivering a pizza. Twice now someone has tried to open the door to my unit. One time it wasn't locked and they did while I was home. Luckily my doberman made it very vocally clear that no trespassers are welcome. There is dog poop everywhere. I wonder if management ever cleans it up because even after the gardeners come and mow, there's still weeks old caked dog poop all over the grass. I think this is because several dogs walk themselves. Some owners leave the patio door open and the dog comes and goes as they please. If you care about this, management doesn't enforce the mask mandate once you leave the leasing area. They put up "mask required" signs on some doors but they don't actively enforce it. So if you don't like wearing a mask this is a good place.
I believe some of the negative comments are due to mistakes of the old management. The community now has a new management who’s definitely a lot more responsive and professional. Sandy, the licensing agent was very friendly and welcoming when we toured the property. She always greet us warmly and answer any question we have after we moved in. Miguel the assistant manager was exceptional as well! We had some concerns over some incidences that happened years ago when the old management was in charge. Not only did Miguel sympathize with us but he also provided details of measures currently undertaken by the management to address these issues. Also, we had an unpleasant experience involving package delivery after we moved in, Miguel went out of his way to make it up to us by even extending some credits. This level of courtesy and professionalism is what makes me feel very confident and positive about my life here at this community. Kudos to the management team here!
Pics looks great but when I went there they showed me apartments is old no upgrades. No laundry in the unit . Great marketing continue wasting peoples time .
Management here is absolutely terrible. They told me my move-out date was Sept 1st, and it was written in a legal document. No where on that document did it mention I would have to pay $126 rent on the day of my assigned move-out, which doesn't make any sense to begin with. IF the document had said "Move out date: Aug 31st", then I would completely understand being charged rent an extra day for Sept 1st; however, the document clearly said "Move out date: Sept 1st". So how was I supposed to know that I had to move out on Aug 31st or else I would incur extra charges? Now I'm being charged an extra day of rent, and there's nothing I can do about it. I called the office to let them know that the document did not even once mention the possibility of being charged rent on my assigned move-out date; they were very apathetic and said they couldn't do anything about it. This is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever dealt with, and I can't believe they would resort to such sneaky, misleading, and unconscionable tactics to earn more money from their tenants. Clearly, management will do absolutely anything --even through means of deceit and lack of transparency-- to earn more money from you. There were also a handful of huge issues in the apartment community itself: packages CONSTANTLY being stolen, homeless people roaming around, terrible smells, dog poop everywhere, loud screaming/yelling at night, broken pipes, the list goes on. Prior to moving in I had read reviews of similar occurrences (of lack of transparency/management screwing people over with money), but ultimately it was my mistake in ignoring them. So this is my warning to you: STAY AWAY AND TAKE YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE.
We were a little scared about what our experience would be living here considering there were some bad reviews but we took a chance and I'm glad we did. We just moved in and we are loving the place the apartment was just remodeled and they did a great job and didn't use cheap products. The maintenance is very responsive to getting things fixed. All the neighbors are friendly I have not notices the smell of pot that some other reviews stated. We really loved how dog-friendly this place was and Essex properties get an A-plus in my book.
I lived here for a year and honestly, for the price you're just paying for the location (which is alright). Apartments are dirty at move in, garages and doors always broken, management is a joke, and neighbors are loud. The pool looks beautiful as does the model home but its all a sham. Pool is always crowded and dirty. Apartment wasn't as nice. I would always email and try to contact staff and never had a response. And at move out they charged 1000 dollars (I'm not joking) for absolutely nothing. You can honestly do better in the area and for the price of the apartment
Alessio is by the far the WORST! - Management team (Rude, Nasty, Always setting wrong expectations) - Complex (Very dirty, weed smell everywhere, loud music from many units, I will never touch the pool due to human hair and urine. Oil stains in the parking lot granted it's a parking lot at-least use sand to cover the spill - Online payment portal (Always down, never works) - Unit (Roach infested, stains on the wall) I will never signed with this complex again!
Service here is either wonderful or extremely terrible there is no in between. Maintenance is never on time. I live in the back and it is the nosiest building. You could find better for the price you will be paying.
My family and I have experienced a lot of fun living here! This is the perfect place to walk to local grocery store, mall etc. This apartment has a great pool area, dog park, and a kid park as well so i would say this place has everything but a grocery store great for a family!
Enjoy living here quiet nice amenities security 24-7
This is the perfect complex, in a great area, with everything you could imagine in close reach. Easy access to the freeway, down the street from the mall, and across the street from your everyday shopping. There is a great pool that looks as if your at some resort and 3 jacuzzi's around it. Just a great place to be.
I have been living at the Alessio since 2006 when it was still the Villa Azure. I love living here! The amenities are great! The luxurious resort-style pool is surrounded by lush palm trees, a waterfall and three Jacuzzi spas. Living here feels like a vacation. The maintenance and staff are all so friendly and attentive, and the complex is dog-friendly. It's also perfectly located near Culver City, Playa del Rey and the beach cities. I have no complaints about my neighbors - everyone I've encountered so far has been really friendly, however I know there has been some security issues. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else.
