Property Ratings at Alexander House at Elizabeth Square
Have had poor experiences with: -Towing of vehicles from their registered spaces -Extreme delays in maintenance requests (months, not days) -Fire Alarms -Building exterior doors remaining unlocked -Water going out (for several days) -Hot water going out(several times for several days) Staff is kind, but that doesn't fix this.

LIVING IN THIS BUILDING IS A NIGHTMARE! When I signed my lease in August, I was informed that the renovations would be complete by the Fall (Septemeber or October); that was a LIE! There have been ongoing renovations since I moved into the building. I am awakened at 8 am every morning to drilling and hammering which usually lasts throughout the day. Before signing my lease, I was also informed that the building amenities would be accessible in October BUT residents don't even have access to a gym here. Management is overcharging to live in a "luxury" complex with no amenities and no accommodations. When I got locked out of my apartment after hours, I was told I would have to pay a fee to have maintenance let me in; what is the point in having a concierge who can't help with urgent matters such as these? Please save yourself a headache and RUN in the opposite direction before considering moving into the Alexander House Apartments. Unless you want maintenance in your apartment multiple times a week, fire alarms randomly going off at all hours of the night, no access to running water in your apartment, nonstop drilling, nonworking elevators, and no amenities, this is not the place for you.

Perfect building and extremely helpful staff. Great location
Don't be fooled by the great amenities advertised on the website. The leasing agent may conveniently forget to mention that they are all still under construction. Management does not have a phone, so the only way to speak with them when there is a problem is to take off of work and go to them in person during business hours. Also, be prepared to wait several minutes for an elevator when you need to leave for work in the morning. The elevators are not prepared to handle the number of people who need to leave in the morning, and the stairs will only let you out in the loading dock behind the dumpster, or on the opposite side of the building from all public transit.

Totally ruined by construction as of 2017. Before you move in here, ask them if their renovation project is totally finished, and if they say no, run. I haven't had a decent night's sleep in weeks, jack-hammering starts at 8am and the construction crew is yelling up and down the halls before that. The water is frequently shut off, sometimes multiple days in a row, there are days where they just run the fire alarms for hours at a time. They told us we'd be moved out of our apartment into a comparable one for about six weeks, it's now MONTH seven and I'm still in that temporary apartment which is inferior in almost every way to where I was living before, with a broken thermostat, broken bathroom mirror, broken closet door, incorrectly-installed balcony blinds--the list goes on, and I can see why this unit was empty for them to move me into. At one point they even scheduled a move day back, and then had to postpone, by an unspecified amount for unspecified reasons, and moving back has not been spoken of again since. Between the general unpleasantness of the environment and the constant complaints from the residents, it's so intolerable that most of the staff has quit at this point and I feel bad for the one long-time member left. This used to be a decent place to live, and maybe when this whole mess of a project is over with it will be again. But everything is so far behind schedule I don't know when that will be, so for now, after four years I'm moving out, and you should avoid it for as long as construction lasts.
The ventilation is absolutely horrible here, and secondhand smoke from another apartment engulfs my living space. Aside from the fact that secondhand smoke is a health hazard for anyone, it is particularly worrisome for someone who suffers from asthma, and must take an emergency inhaler multiple times per day due to the problem. Management was very dismissive and unwilling to help in any way, and also unwilling to allow us to terminate our lease due to the uninhabitable conditions. A BIG warning to all: do not live here if you are concerned about the health hazards of secondhand smoke, and absolutely do not consider living here if you have asthma. Note: Every apartment has a balcony. Too bad neighbors would rather suffocate you with their indoor smoke than take it outside.
I really do love living at Alexander House. The apartment itself is great. Up to date appliances, plenty of space. The building is quiet and the amenities are nice. My only complaint is that the air system here is a little weird so sometimes smells from other neighbor's apartments are carried directly into mine. This can range from an air freshener smell to cigarette smoke to food.
Alexander House apartments are NOT smoke free. People may freely smoke inside their living space here.
This apartment is ideal for any and everything you may need. It is a two minute walk to the Silver Spring metro, and surrounded by countless restaurants, bars and shops all within the downtown Silver Spring area. The apartment hosts a wide variety of amenities which include a pool, concierge, both leasing office and management office in the building, washer and dryer in the unit, and a balcony with an excellent of both Maryland and DC. Overall, a great community.
