Great w/ Minor Issues Allina La Jolla is a beautiful complex my only issues are with the laundry room. The dryers don’t always work well even when clearing the lint trap. It’s also pretty far from my apartment and I have to cross the parking lot to get there. Other than that everything is great.
Property Manager at Allina La Jolla, Responded To This Review

We apologize for the inconvenience you've experienced with the laundry room, specifically with the dryers. Your satisfaction is important to us and we will certainly look into this issue. Thank you for helping us improve our services by letting us know about your experience.
The best place to live The laundry room is tidy and all machines are functioning.
I spent so much time touring the property and preparing my application because they offered specials and when I send them email about "how do I know I actually get the specials?" they get back to me that they changed their specials since yesterday that I had the tour..... looks like they change their word every time....
Property Manager at Allina La Jolla, Responded To This Review
I sincerely apologize for any confusion about our specials. It's not our intention to mislead. Sometimes, we have to update our specials due to external factors. Please reach out so we can discuss this further and find a satisfactory solution for you. We hope to improve your experience with us.
Save yourself the trouble and listen to the negative reviews. Lived here for a year and honestly one of the most frustrating apartment living experiences I've ever had. A majority of the first and second floor apartments have mold issues (when you walk through the outdoor hallways, you can see the blinds molding in people's apartments due to the building set up that severely decreases air flow and sunlight), we had multiple packages stolen, laundry facilities were routinely broken or flooded, pool/hot tub chlorine content is not overseen correctly and it will bleach swimsuits, etc. The staff is unhelpful and seems genuinely uninterested in assisting residents. Initially, I was pulled in by how nice the units look, but don't let it fool you. I wish I listened to the negative reviews before moving in.
Property Manager at Allina La Jolla, Responded To This Review
We're genuinely sorry to hear about your frustrating experience. Your feedback is vital and we will work diligently on the issues you've raised. We would be happy to further discuss your concerns. Please reach out directly so we can get your experience back on track.
If I can give this place 0 stars I would. The only good thing is the maintenance staff who are always professional and on time. They alone deserve five stars. However, I have lived here for about 2 years and this review is overdue. I usually don’t leave reviews unless I’m extremely unhappy with service or extremely happy. Apartments are poorly made. If you want to cook so much as eggs the alarm will go off bc it is literally right above the stove while there is no way for the smoke to go anywhere else. As soon as it gets colder be prepared to pay a lot for heating unless you want to be cold. If it starts raining it gets stuffy. And watch out for rats bc they will quickly go through your car and make damage while you will not be able to recover any of that cost. Sometimes in august while I was out of country my friend notified me about the police/shooting activity within one of the garages - no notification of this came from the management. Now the best part..in the beginning of the year they switched to a different app driven washer/drier system. Half of the machines have not been switched yet. And if you want to dry your clothes good luck. At least 15 of them do not work or are not switched to the new system. This is now going on for 8 months. The prices are so steep and you get absolutely nothing - or literally only a roof over your head. Our household has repeatedly asked when the machines will be fixed and we are always greeted with a smile. I almost think they are mocking us all. And they should bc we end up staying in this place - so why would they not treat us like garbage. And now for the last one.. people rarely use the pool area. I think my household and possibly a few more are kind of regulars. Yet the management thought this was the priority to “fix” and added all the new furniture. Honestly the pool was the only thing that didn’t really need fixing. But for show you have to spicy it up Vs dealing with the real problems.

We assure you that we will take serious note of these concerns as we work towards making much-needed improvements.
Incessant mold problem on every window we had, including the skylight. We had to call maintenance at least four times before they told us to start trying to clean it ourselves. We had fungi grow on our balcony. While it was raining, a chunk of the roof’s insulation just fell on our balcony. Someone got shot in the garage, and I never saw security the entire year I lived there. Poorly insulated, was colder inside than outside in the winter and hotter inside than outside in the summer. Some dryers don’t dry you’re clothes, and most don’t work in general. “Fireplace” is also an over glorified light show connected to a heater that doesn’t work. Walls were incredibly thin, could hear most things our neighbors said and did. Leasing office would take a break for lunch and still be empty at 4:00pm. There’s a reason why, come July, half of my neighbors had moved out.
Property Manager at Allina La Jolla, Responded To This Review
We sincerely apologize for the distressing experience you had while living in our property. Your issues are not something we take lightly, and we deeply regret the inconvenience caused. We're taking steps to address these serious concerns, and improve our service quality to ensure a safe, comfortable environment for our residents.
This is a pretty great place to live. I’ve been here over 5 years. The downsides are the washers/dryers in the laundry room are always broken. My rent has gone up $500/mo in the last 5 years but I’ve been in the same unit with the same job that whole time. Homeless people sometimes bathe in the hot tub as well. I’ve been in the hot tub when that’s happened so it’s a bummer I had to leave when I actually live here. Pros include the maintenance team. They are so responsive and helpful, and the property is very nicely maintained. There’s been a lot of improvements to the property over the years.
Property Manager at Allina La Jolla, Responded To This Review
Thank you for your feedback and long-term residency! We regret the issues with laundry equipment and will focus on improving this. We're glad you appreciate the maintenance team and property upkeep. Suggestions on further improvements are always welcome for a better living experience.
I lived here 4+ years (formally La Jolla International Gardens), and now it's Allena La Jolla. Current management is not friendly, not very responsive. Security of the complex is going down. 1. there was an arrest a week or so ago in the building next to mine. Some random guy walked in and was going to push a tenant out of the 3rd or 2nd floor. To this date, the management hasn't send a mass email to residents explaining the incident.

We are sincerely sorry to hear about your experiences with us. We understand your concerns and apologize for any lapse in communication. Rest assured, we are addressing these matters to ensure positive experiences for our residents. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us improve our services.
Between the cost of rent and general complications of this apartment complex, the spacious bedrooms and living room are hardly worth living here. If you want a unit with elevator access, then your bedroom window will on the walkway where anyone can see in. If you want a unit not right on the walkway, well, then you get no elevator accessibility. The complex is poorly designed. For many units, walkways for the 3rd floor units block sunlight from reaching the lower units. You get little sunlight, so the whole unit is really dark. At night, the lighting on the walkways is really bright, a good thing for safety, but the blinds in the apartment are sorely insufficient for blocking it out at night when you go to sleep. For many buildings, there are no sidewalks for getting to the laundry room so people have to walk through the driveway. There is only the 1 laundry room, and it's pretty far from some buildings and rather small. There are arguably too few machines, and when it gets crowded during busy hours, it's really hard to move around in. For some buildings, you have to walk through a parking garage to an elevator to reach the laundry room or face carrying your laundry up and down stairs. There's only 1 phone number to call if you need to contact someone, and if the leasing office isn't open, then no one picks up. I locked myself out, unfortunately 10 minutes after the leasing office closed, and had to call an emergency locksmith. This place needs a number to call for after-hours situations. What if a door jams in the middle of the night or there are issues with a window? Window issues would be particularly concerning because of said easy access from walkways. When I dropped my keys in the empty recycling bin in the parking garage, the leasing office was rather unhelpful in working with me to find a solution. Noise issues, despite quiet hours of 10 pm to 8 am, are inadequately addressed. Reminder emails sent to all the residents in the complex are ineffective.

The complex itself is lovely, the staff is really helpful and friendly. Great location. My only complaint is that the ants are horrible. The building needs to be tented.

I lived here for one year, and it is absolutely NOT worth the outrageous price of rent. I did not feel safer here than any other part of town. The security "cameras" in the garages at La Jolla International Gardens are 'dummy' cameras...they are not real and do not work. When my car was broken into, I asked to see the footage from those cameras and they could not provide it...management eventually was forced to admit that the cameras were fake and do not really work. There are car & apartment break-ins frequently in this area and this complex...management posts signs every time one happens, and there was a peeping tom warning posted as well when I lived there. Criminals know this area is popular for students with wealthy parents, there are a lot of nice cars in this complex, and it is an easy and common target for burglars. I would highly advise you to look elsewhere...this complex and area is not as safe as it may appear and is absolutely not worth the extremely high rent.
Property Manager at Allina La Jolla, Responded To This Review
Hello Samantha. We're sorry for any miscommunication that may have happened, but we have no recollection of this conversation, nor any record of you as a tenant in our system. Our cameras do work, and are placed at the entrances and exits of our garages. Unfortunately, crime has no address, and we can't fully control problems in the area, but we do our best to ensure the comfort of our residents to the extent that we can. We believe our prices are in-line with our offerings and we are careful in deciding them, but we apologize that you feel it may not match up;. If you are a resident or a former resident, we would be happy to discuss any concerns you may have with you at the front office, and clear up any other miscommunications that may have occurred!
Very nice apartment. I lived here about 18 months. The location is great, and rooms are clean. Staff are friendly and willing to solve any concerns and problems. The only thing is the parking, as many residents mentioned. Unless you are lucky to be assigned a better spot, the best option is to park outside of the guest parking space, if there is one available. It is true the security deposit is high, but if you maintain a good condition of the rooms, they return reasonable portion of the deposit. In general, compared to few of the other apartment complex in this area, La Jolla International Gardens is definitely a better one.
The staff here are very unprofessional and rude. When inquiring to the lady at the front desk why the printer was not working, she was extremely unhappy to walk into the next room to check it out. She aggressively opened the paper compartment and told me to check it next time before I wasted her time by making her walk all the way into the next room. I have not had experience with office printers before so I had no idea of knowing. Walls here are very thin and I have had to call in maintenance for rusty screws and nails left on the carpet during my move in, broken sinks, leaky shower heads, etc. Also, very poor security and no privacy due to the huge windows that all face towards the walkways. There has also recently been a police report of a 'peeping tom' lurking around. There are many other affordable places with better amenities and environment in the area!
My first apartment and loving it! The apartments have the perfect amount of space and storage in every room. There is a convenient locked bike cage located in the assigned parking garage, laundry facility, and a computer lab with coffee readily available. Great place to be on the weekend with amenities such as grills, year round heated pool/jacuzzi, indoor pool table, and sand volleyball court. I feel like I am on vacation everyday in my apartment complex. And when I am not home numerous stores and plazas are just a walk away.
This is my second apartment in CA,USA. Because I saw a lot of comments about La jolla international gardens via apartments.com, I belived this apartment could be best for my family. Among many apartments in La jolla, this apartment is very clean and close to good facilities. There's no insect and has a pool and gym, etc. And you could ride a bus near bus stop(5min) and park a car on designated place! You don't have to find a parking space every night! The only trivial problem is noise..Due to the remodeling, it's a little bit noisy. But this thing is too trivial to talk about it. I want to stay for a long time in this apartment as long as I can.^^ I really recommend this apartment to you^^~~
I lived here with my boyfriend and another couple. We enjoyed the space very much. Everything was very simple but well laid out with max use of space. Not a lot of storage space but it was very open so we never felt closed in. The biggest issue was ventilation, and with no "fan" option without a heater (and no AC) we baked during the late summer months. But the rest of the year it was quite nice. The Complex is very nice, I loved the pool and the gym. The management did take a little bit of time to fix things (it took 3 calls just from me to get one door into the garage fixed so that it would actually open). But when they were on top of things, they were very understanding and worked well with us. The main problem with the complex itself was parking: the assigned spaces were incredibly tight and the spaces outside were too few. With 4 cars to the apartment and only two assigned spots, two of the 4 cars always parked on the street, as any time past 5pm parking was almost impossible in the "free for all" area. It was manageable, but still frustrating. Overall, the apartment was very nice and I'd recommend it as a well priced ($1875 for 2 bed/2 bath and ~1000 sq ft) and well maintained apartment. Just bring your own fan!
After apartment hunting for a week, both me and my roommate found La Jolla International Gardens through Apartments.com and drove down to take a look. As soon as we pulled up I knew this would be the place I wanted to stay, even on a rainy day the grounds were beautiful. Trees and foliage everywhere, open courtyards between apartments, with waterfalls that make it seem like a tropical resort. The rooms are spacious and beautifully renovated with wood floors in the kitchen and bathroom, new counter tops and cabinets, and even a fireplace. The public pool & jacuzzi are always teeming with people, and we'll kept. There are public barbecues which I've indulged in almost every week, along with both a gym and laundry facilities. I honestly can't praise this place more, for all it has to offer at a very reasonable price being so close to the beach, I'd recommend La Jolla International Gardens to anyone looking for a new home. If you take a visit I promise you won't be disappointed!
I love this apartment, the fountain outside my window is very relaxing. It is a real quiet place too, hardly ever hear my neighbors. The two bedroom layout I have works great, keeps my bedroom seperate from my roommate's bedroom. The pool/jacuzzi are very nice and I'm sure the gym would be just fine If I could just drag myself down there. Two shopping centers in walking distance and a great central location for San Diego. So glad I found this place! Travis
Pretty good community, especially out unit!! Large space with no noise coming from other neighbors. Nice natural light. However, frequent construction noise during my final weeks everyday and outside unit washer and dryers are not a competitive advantage.
This apartment is simply amazing. The staff is extremely attentive, the building is extremely nice, the apartments have been recently remodeled, they have options for vaulted ceilings, and its motel-style with outdoor apartment access. It has a small gym with no free weights, however. Overall, I'm sad that I'll be moving out soon.
International Garden is a pretty community with efficient maintenance service. The security is reliable, and staffs in the leasing office are friendly. Most importantly, our apartment is a corner high floor. So it is absolutely quiet and our neighbors cannot hear us at all (even when we party.) The rent include water, which is nice and fair (not many apartments around offer.) One small thing is not convenient that we do not have washer/dryer in out unit. Carrying a basket of clothes to the center of community feels wasting of time sometimes. But it can be count as a small practice during intensive study. So overall not bad. Thinking of the perks we have, really not bad.
This used to be a great community that was very aesthetically appealing and peaceful. For the past year+, there has been ongoing renovations that make you feel that you live in a construction zone during the day. Constant banging, loud noises, and the screeching of the electric saw right outside the residents' windows make this a terrible place to call home. Construction crews are constantly leaving trash and debris all over the community and the appearance takes a last priority with the staff. This community is going downhill. Maybe after the renovations, it might return back the nice and quiet community it once was but it's been so long, I don't know when that will happen.
My girlfriend and I looked at this place and put it as our second choice. The admenities are wonderful, the location is great and the office staff seemed friendly. We were able to get into our first chouice, but this we would deffiently be happy to lvie here.
