Property Ratings at Alta Shores
I am military and had sudden orders which led me to break my lease earlier than expected. Because of that I was responsible for a month and a half of rent and utilities after my move out date. 20 days after I left the state I got an eviction letter from them. The fee is waived but their contract is sneaky. They also let their contractors stay in the apartments which isn’t a bad thing, just they act like cowboys and filmed my wife as she was coming home. Reported to the office and nothing happened.
We are prior renters at AS. We lived there for 2 years. We had our tow trailer stolen and they were fairly ambivalent about it. We contacted their corporate headquarters and basically got the run around about providing security. With one way in and one way out, it would be easy to install a security system on the front office building, but NO, they are so cheap, they didn't bother. They had an unclear parking policy, and yet dozens of cars were inadvertently towed, costing the owners more than $100 to get their vehicle back, and yet we saw vehicles parked in certain spots for months, not being moved, and yet nothing came of it. Now, since we have been out of there, we have inadvertently (mistakenly) had 2 packages sent to our former apt. We contacted the front office on both occasions, and nothing came of it. USPS verified delivery, and yet we heard nothing from the office. In effect, they have a thief in our prior apartment. A mail thief! How can a package that has been verfied delivered not be accounted for when the owner of that package asks for such? Insidious! This place does not care about you. Think about that as you consider apartment living on University Blvd.
I have lived here for 6 months. The two good things about this place are the location (only if you want to be outside of Charleston, though) and the layouts of the apartments. The maintenance is horrible (even with a "new crew"), they won't fix anything. Nothing from my move in list has been fixed. My windows leak when it rains, my toilet leaks, my sink/garbage disposal leaks from time to time, and my AC and Heat had to be "fixed" with the new seasons. And they will make you feel stupid about things you say are not working. Also, it's SUPER Noisy! I've had to call the courtesy officer (who's never available) several times when neighbors throw parties with music blaring and people screaming. I ended up calling the police because they wouldn't do anything. We can hear everything the people above us and below us are saying, their music, and footprints sound like giants stomping all day long! There are many dogs so there's a lot of barking as well. And last but not least, pests are a real problem. I had several things crawling on me in bed at night! Eww!
We recently moved into Alta Shores approximately 3 months ago. The office staff is super sweet. My issues are usua;ly with the tenants,but the on site office has been amazing in taking care of all of these situations for us. Maintenance is mediocre, but we were informed that the office was looking for a new maintenance technician so requests were a little backed up. So far, loviong the place. Good location, good prices and nice array of residents.
I should have seen the red flags in the beginning. We did our walk through list and they claimed they would fix every thing on it but haven't fixed one single thing. Maintenance is by far the biggest issue. They are not qualified at all. They say if you have a pet to schedule an appointment but then they don't show up. When my AC went out numerous times in less than 2 months they just let it thaw out and told me it fixed its self (really?), that it was being overworked. this is South Carolina keeping your AC set on 74 is normal. I have had to contact the property management company numerous time to complain because the office personnel never answer the phone. There are big problems with parking here too. They do not have enough spaces for all the passes they hand out. They give out 24 passes per building but only have about 15 parking spaces. And if you have a guest they are supposed to park in a specific spaces on the other side of the property. They say they have a tow company but the only time you see one is when you make a complaint. I honestly would never recommend anyone to move in here.
I could write an 5 page essay on the outstanding customer service of this place. They go above and beyond to help get everything in order for your move and are just fantastic people. I am pleased with my apartment and the staff. It's absolutely wonderful!
