Nestled approximately 13 miles north of downtown San Antonio in the far north-central part of the city, Arboretum offers proximity to recreation and historic attractions, along with a peaceful, quiet neighborhood atmosphere. Most of the residences and apartments were built between 1970 and 1999, giving the neighborhood a relatively modern feel with plenty of character.
A low crime rate and excellent schools contribute to the neighborhood's allure. Residents have access to numerous nearby shops, restaurants, and the spacious McAllister Park. This is a fantastic area in which to raise a family, thanks to nearby sports fields, libraries, and stores. Along Arboretum’s eastern border you’ll find popular neighborhood spots like Pepe’s Tacos, which makes it easy to enjoy a night out without venturing into the city. McAllister Freeway is nearby, however, should you need to head into Downtown San Antonio.

Property Ratings at Altamonte Apartments
I would give 0 stars if I could. I was a tenant here for 2 years and lived in 2 different apartments. I had problems with ants and roaches in both. Even after having pest control treat for them. I lived on the third floor first, with no washer and dryer. I constantly had clothes get stolen at the laundry centers. The third floor apartment wasn’t nearly as bad as the first floor though. My AC leaked puddles on to my floor for 6 months. I had maintenance come to fix it 4 different times and one told me I needed a new AC unit but that management is cheap and he would have to convince them. After this, nothing was ever done. I had 2 trash bins for the water in the closet and it was leaking so bad I would have to dump them out daily. Showed a picture of the full buckets and explained to front office my situation and was met with “oh that’s an emergency have you put in a maintenance request for it?”. Still nothing was done. Then my bathtub started shocking me. I had maintenance come out to look at it, they couldn’t fix it and I was told “well it’s not bad enough to hurt you seriously”. I had my car broken into, and 2 different attempts to break into my apartment. One was a seriously drunk lady who almost banged my door off the hinges and I had to call the cops. This isn’t surprising though considering the gates are always broken and left open for anyone to walk in. The last straw was when they wanted to do renovations and told me I had to pack up all my things 2 months before my lease was to be up and I would be moving out. I decided to leave early but agreed to pay remaining rent/electricity and water fees along with a reletting fee for a new tenant. I get a bill in the mail for $5000 dollars because they decided to claw back the specials on rent, even though I left only 2 months early.

Horrible management, from corporate to property management. Try to falsely get $$ from you. (Only thing good is the maintenance, very friendly and quick to respond)

They are absolutely dishonest. I don’t need to go into detail, just know that i have been pushed out and they already listed my apartment before I’ve had a chance to even move out.

they told me they had an apartment ready for me to sign so I grabbed everything they asked of me to but never returned my calls (I work 60+ hours a week) and end up telling me they gave away the one they promised me 5 minutes before I walked in and called into work for this. Don’t trust these people! Horrible management!

Been here 14 months. notified them 8 months ago kitchen window leaks, even showed a video during a rainstorm. Still has not been fixed. Many ants eating inside the window frame. This week it's triple-digit weather. Neither pool can be swum in. phase two pool has been closed over a week and phase one pool has algae in it. Not sure why the apartments do not do daily maintenance. Also, we were notified right after I renewed my lease that packages larger than a shoebox will not be accepted at the office. USPS WILL NOT deliver to your door. This is a major as I order a lot online. If I would have known about the package service and the inability to use the pool when its the hottest months I would have found another place to rent. Even getting the $20 a month rent reduction for a senior citizen does not make up for all the rest. In March I will start looking for a place that has a packaging hub.

One of the worse experience I have had at an apartment EVER. The front office is rude and messed up on my release papers not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES. Which by th n me and my girlfriend decided to move and rent else where. That has to be the BEST DECISION EVER MADE. On top of it all if you are like me and care for grass to be around the premises, then DO NOT RENT HERE. You get nothing but rocks and dirt everywhere!!

The whole staff is the nicest ones I’ve ever met. I moved here four years ago from Jacksonville & they are the greatest. All the staff is so nice, helpful & very accommodating to my special needs. Debbie, Margaret, Bobby, Raven, Calub, Blake, & Ramon are so friendly & genuinely wonderful people. There’s a smile each time you see them & like ”Cheers” they always know your name. Maintenance is always on time & done in a timely matter. Grounds are kept clean. The complex is quite & love the gated community. I highly recommend this complex as a number one atmosphere living experience.

We love to hear about members of our team who’ve gone the extra mile for residents! Thanks for sharing, and we’re happy you love it here at Altamonte Apartments.
I lived at Altamonte apartments for 6 years and had a great experience the entire time I was there. The staff is very friendly and if there was ever an issue it was taken care of immediately. The area is within 3 miles of the airport and shopping. And it's right off the 281 freeway so you can get anywhere. The rent is very affordable and they offer discounts. I highly recommend living there.
I've been living here at Altamonte for 5 years and never had any serious issues with them. The complex is fairly clean, sits in a nice spot in town, but it surely lacks in times need. I was in a flood/leak situation caused by my upstairs neighbor and my apartment was uninhabitable for 2 days. Altamonte refused to compensate me in any way relating to my living situation. I had to make a last resort decision to stay in a hotel for two nights, to which Altamonte refused to pay (even a fraction) for. Their eagerness to tell me "no" was off-putting and it made me reconsider living here any longer. I also want to address that the maintenance crew was more helpful than the front office ever was, although the repairs were a bit sloppy. This reminds me of another situation that was poorly handled recently. If you plan on doing laundry at the complex, please ensure that your card is loaded with enough money to complete your laundry needs. I had put a load in the washer and went to add cash in order to get them dried. The card reader was broken and Altamonte refused to send someone out to fix it. I was told to take it to a laundromat to dry. They didn't stop to think if I was disabled, couldn't drive, had no means of transportation, etc. The situation was not handled properly. Altamonte is happy to barely reach the bare minimum when it comes to your emergency needs.
I came from Cali and after a few months moved into a one bedroom here at Altamonte with my boyfriend. We have 1 bed, over 700 sq. ft. (3rd floor) and pay in the low $700's for it. You can even get like a $20 discount if you work at a favored place (like schools). Our price has never but one time increased and that was for an $8 trash fee. The people up front are always wonderful. We never had an apartment under our names before, but with a parent being our benefactor it was a no problem. Additionally this is part of one of the nicer areas in Texas, so be relieved. Stick with the Northern part of San Antonio. There's a wash/dry hook up as well as a laundry building nearby (we go to a family's house and don't use these) The pools are popular with the kids and I see a lot if dog owners here. The trees here are nice to look at, compared to staring out my window to the next apartment across the way. It has a good smell all around, never a stinky place even with all the dogs. The parking can be a bit of an issue if you arrive later in the evenings, but of course it depends on how many people are actually living here at the time. The apartment itself may be on the more out dated side, but it's a really good place overall, so I can overlook it. Some paint mess ups, a simple older window (we have one in the bedroom and a sliding glass door out to our balcony-that's all but it's not bad). When I first moved in the service cleaning people who are supposed to clean the apartment before you move in did not do a good job, or one at all. So much hair in everything, it's ridiculous. We complained and they sent over a cleaning lady the next day! If course I felt if anyone is going to clean it to my standards it's going to have to be me. I have lived here over a year and still find one if those nasty white hairs from time to time... Our AC, heat, and water all work really well! The AC has been our biggest issue, it's conked out on us now and then, but MAINTENANCE IS AMAZING and 95% of the time can come by that day to fix it, assuming you don't call after everything has closed. They make this a priority issue anyway. These guys work hard in this Texas heat. We would highly recommend this place, we even waited a few months just to get an apartment-without even looking at it (only saw the small model show room)! We plan to live here until we move again, AKA out of state.
I have lived at Altamonte for 2 years and have been very pleased with my experience. The complex management is friendly and responsive, the grounds are clean and safe (I'm a single female and have never once felt threatened or had an issue) and parking is always ample, which is so rare to find! One of the best things about the complex is the location. I have easy access to 281, 1604, 410 and Wurzbach Pkwy. People are friendly and quiet and my rent is incredibly reasonable and I feel I definitely get what I pay for. I would reccomend this complex to a friend and have. Happy apartment hunting!
The customer service that the Altamonte staff has provided to my family is superb! This is my fifth apartment that I have leased with and it is by far my favorite. Everything here is so clean and so quiet which is perfect for any family. I had a maintenance request and it was completed first thing the next morning. The quality for the price is unbeatable. I have felt at home from the day we say this apartment and I would recommend it to any friend or family member of mine.
I've looked into MANY apartment complexes in San Antonio, and being my first time in a big city, my boyfriend & I had one priority: safety. In order to be able to become a tenant, you must first pass a basic background check - standard for most apartments. However, you are able to carry weapons here for precautions. It even has signs all around the premises. For a boyfriend in law enforcement, this was very pleasing. Another key feature is the gates only being accessible with a card or remote. Now, about the complex itself. There is always parking available, at any time of day. The price I pay for all available amenities and size of our apartment is very reasonable. It is a friendly community filled with families. There are two pools and fitness centers - a major plus if you're lucky enough to be close! The location is another plus. There is a bowling alley, movie theatre, and varieties of restaurants just minutes away. They are a bit out dated but taken care of, and in each unit there is a balcony or patio, depending on the floor you are on. The washer and dryer is a bit tight. All appliances provided work just fine. I've not noticed any problems with anything inside the apartment. The staff of the complex is just great. The maintenance guys will always wave when they see you, and attend to the problems quickly. The ladies at the office always tries to help you. Coming from over 300 miles away, this was really helpful. To be completely honest, if you want a great complex with a home feel to it, look no further. Everything you need at an affordable price is right in front of you.
