Located on Lake Washington, life in Downtown Kirkland is all about the water: boating and sailing, swimming, and fishing. In fact, two local marinas -- Marina Park and Carillon Point -- have guest moorage so visitors can hop off their boats and go shopping or have dinner downtown. For those who prefer to get around on land, Kirkland offers miles of bike lanes and a series of bike routes called the "7 Hills of Kirkland." Downtown Kirkland has a bicycle rental program, as well. Big Finn Hill Park, a 220-acre park, includes a five-mile mountain bike trail.
Downtown Kirkland is very walkable -- in fact, with the beautiful scenery, walking may become your favorite way of getting around. Be sure to try the Lake View Walk -- it's just over a mile along the waterfront and leads past some of Kirkland's best outdoor artwork. With Woodinville Wine Country next door, Downtown Kirkland residents enjoy some of the region's top restaurants, wineries, and tasting rooms.

Property Ratings at Arete Apartments
A few days ago, I lost my phone, and it was picked up by someone who was living at Arete. I knew this because I had the "find my phone" feature on my watch. I could see that it was in the building, but where to begin looking? That's when Bethany stepped in. She was the manager on duty. She couldn't have been more helpful in locating exactly which room the phone was in and getting hold of the person (who was at work) to return it to her office. The tenant gladly did. A big thank you to her too. Nice people in that building. I am a Kirkland resident and glad to have neighbors like this.
Put in a request to fix some lights and some other things in the kitchen and within 24 Hours they sent a very professional individual that helped me sort out the issues I had. They were very quick and polite. Great Service!
I am always told by the office that they just had something cleaned so it won't be cleaned again for some long amount of time. I have found broken beer bottles and vomit in the stairwell, and have been harassed by homeless in fromt of the apartment complex. I won't let my son leave the building alone. It's not safe.
Hallways are carpeted, but pets often have issue making it outside before they urinate. Hallway carpets are stained and smell, as a result. The Property management group also leases apartments to corporate entities, that hire their own cleaning crews and such that Arete management has no control over. These individuals have access to the building, though they do not live there. Cleaning crews also leave bags of trash in the hallways as they clean the Corporate rooms, and get confrontational when asked to move the garbage inside the door. Simply not worth it. The worst of all Apartments in the area.
I would not recommend living here. Management does not enforce the rules or abide by the lease. Management does what they want violating terms of lease by renting out common areas (roof couch and bbq) without notice to private parties allowing strangers (unscreened people) into the secure building to freely roam our halls and living spaces putting us all at risk and monopolizing the elevator. Very disatisfied.
While the accommodation seems OK, the senior leasing associate is a real snake oil salesman. He was very intent on steering the conversation during my visit. When I asked to see the bylaws which came with the apartment, he said that he would send them to me, then informed me via e-mail that he required an application fee first. Putting aside the obvious problem with forcing prospective tenants to buy-in in order to see the rules they are expected to abide by, rules that are not easily available are bound to be inconsistently enforced. I think you can see some of this problem in the split between one and five-star reviews. That said, it is cheap and centrally located. If you must live here, be sure you are on management's good side, so any unfairness will be in your favor!
My experience has been fantastic. I lived in an eco flat part time before recently switching to an apartment after about 7 months. Larry has been very responsive to all my request and I love the amenities that come with such a great location. All the negative reviews seem to come from people that are not used to living in the city. My last place in Seattle ran nearly twice the cost and was smaller, noiser, and had NO parking. If you are going to live in an eco flat, prepare yourself for a smaller environment with shared amenities. It is similar to that of a very nice dorm room. The price on these with all utilities included is unheard of for the Seattle area, especially for a brand new building. Lastly, construction is done so all of those complaints about the noise and stuff not being completed should be negated. My new apartment is modern, has a great view of down town Seattle, and I couldn't be happier. If there is a negative it would be the water pressure but I have had worse, especially in the city.
I would avoid this place if you can. The employees in the office are extremely rude and unprofessional. The eco-flats are extremely warm even with a fan. The lobby is nice but the units are not great quality. I literally had a book resting against the wall and the paint has come off the wall. Also: -Cigarette smoke through my window every single day -Parking is extremely cramped and way too expensive ($150/month for your own spot) -I guarantee the elevator is one of the slowest you've ever used -The fridges in the eco-flats are not really meant to be used in this capacity and can't store much perishable food. -It's a huge pain to get packages as they are mostly open when people have work and even then sometimes the employees have left the office to take people on tours. The only pro is the location.
Short story: Great idea, poor execution. Long story: The location is great, across the street from Kirkland's largest park. However the building leaves a lot to be desired; it's still under construction (originally told it would be completed in December). I was SO happy I signed the minimal lease length I was offered - I could not wait to get out of there. The units themselves, are HOT. I never turned my heat on once, and it was ~75° consistently; I had to leave a box fan going 24/7 to keep the heat to a "cooler" 70°. And I hope you aren't tall because they have 7ft ceilings, unless you're on the top floor. There are also "community" fees that you have to pay even if you rent a full-sized apartment (amenities that are designed for the eco flat units). If you bring a car, be prepared to pay a pretty penny to be packed in like sardines. And there is no street parking; you sign into your lease that you either park in the garage or park 1 mile from the building. You also have to buy an Orca card, regardless of if you want it. If you have a dog, don't be fooled by the "pet area". It doesn't exist. However, if you are desperate, single, a student, or aren't home much and only need ~300 sq feet... then this is the place for you! It's not a community for everyone, but if you have minimal needs for space, then Areté will probably be perfect for you! Happy apartment searching!
The building is still under construction and the level of noise in non-regular business hours it's just annoying, I was told when I rented out that the labors start at 8 a.m. and would go to 5 p.m. for Monday to Friday, Weekends start later. I listen people shouting and dropping materials since 6 a.m every morning, I complaint with the admin the they just said: "We are under construction, it'll be some other extra months" Apart from that it's a good place to live
Only rented here because I had no other options. Didn't get to see the apartment before signing the lease because construction wasn't finished yet. If I had I definitely would have tried to find something else. The worst part is not having a real sink. Just one small sink in the bathroom. I'm someone who NEVER cooks and not having a fully-functional sink is very inconvenient even to me. I have a private bathroom and the room is too small for an adult who's not a freshman in college anymore.
My Eco-Flat at 291 sf might sound tiny, but with shared common areas, I have everything I need and more. There are a number of shared kitchens, which are clean and have enough space to accommodate several people. The BBQ patio is spacious and has a sitting room with a TV and fireplace connecting the patio to the kitchen. The art and music rooms inspire one to take up a new hobby and make it easy to meet others with the same interests. Since the building is new, everything is in good working order. I didn't find a little damage due to construction and it was fixed promptly and professionally. The staff is very friendly and helpful, too. I can see myself living here for quite a few years!
Very excited for these apartments. Looks cozy and inviting; great use of verticle space and materials to make the apartments feel spacious yet cozy. I'm looking forward to moving in and calling it home!
Looks like a great place! Definitely would love to move in once its finished. Great location as well, close to the shops, restaurants and the waterfront.
