Property Ratings at Argosy Apartments
Argosy is a great place to live. Its a community feel and the staff makes me feel safe and at home. Amazing location cause everything is nearby. Look forward to living here for a long time.
CAUTION: Greedy owners will nickel and dime you to death. I lived here for 2.5 years and moved from a 1 bed to a 2 bed within the timeframe. After moving I was told to pay them over $100 for "damages" on top of the deposit. When asked what "damages" they defined them as "other". I argued it and they said it was an error!!! They are just out to make a buck. Ironically, when I moved into the 2 bed apartment it was a mess! Carpets were dirty, spider webs, missing light bulbs, and much more. After over 10 hours of cleaning they reimbursed me for 4 hours. When I moved out of the 2 bed apartment THEY RETURNED A TOTAL OF $2.13 OF MY $755 DAMAGE DEPOSIT. When I deposited the check, THE BANK TELLERS LAUGHED IN DISBELIEF. The ownership and management is very, very greedy. Do not live here, avoid at all costs!!
I've lived here for two years. When I moved in, it was very dirty. As well, the upstairs tenant was schizophrenic. He would smoke on his balcony and drop the butts in front of my windows. I complained, and they said, 'He's doing it again? We'll talk to him about it'. At that point, I worked nights, and he would blare music at 10 am, even if I tried talking to him about the noise. The tenant before me was deaf, so this was the first time it'd been brought up. As well, he threatened local businesses, paced outside the windows, sometimes looked inside if the blinds were open; management refused to evict him. Tried talking to them, and they put me in contact with his mother. She apologized, explained that it might be his drugs, and then after a while, he was gone. The current person up there must have puppies. I hear yipping that clearly isn't coming from their 40 lb dog. Management must not keep track of how many pets you have in your apartment. Management's changed twice. Each time there was little notice. We found out by way of a small good-bye note taped to our door. Management doesn't call or knock, just tape notes to your door. Why not knock, see if I'm home? If it's pressing, it could save some time. Whenever something breaks, the maintenance guy will show up after a few days. If you're home when he comes, he's very brusque. This last time I complained about my water heater, it was not looked at for two months. In the winter. If the furnace had gone, I wouldn't be surprised if I had to wait just as long. I also have an ongoing struggle with the dryer. The dryer fried my whites on the outside, but left the inside of the load damp. I complained, and they said it was my fault for putting too much in there. Bob said that he had a buddy look at it, found it was working, so it must have been my fault. I don't believe it's right to pin blame on the tenants when you have 40 year old dryers. The labels are also incorrect. They say $.75 but it's actually a dollar per dryer load. Really. With my garbage disposal, three times it's clogged on me. He has come to look at it, all I have been home for. This last time, I asked him if it was normal for this to happen, and that's when he told me they had a habit of rusting shut, fixed only with an Allen wrench. When I asked him about the size of the Allen wrench, he gave me a look of pure disbelief and dropped it underneath the sink before walking out. Oh, and if you get cold in the winter, the windows leak. FYI.
As of right now, Argosy says that they give a four-day grace period for rent. This past month, I paid my rent on the first like normal. I work from home now, so when I went to check my mail, I noticed a letter on my door. Opened the envelope, and it said that management was charging me a $70 late fee. What do they want, the carbon copy of the check? I'm not turning in that late fee if they misplaced the check. There's also a parking lot that's way too close to an intersection light. It's impossible to turn left or right if traffic's busy. Best to park in the center lot, even if it's narrow, or the eastern-most lot, even if it's super far away.
