West Ashley sits within the city of Charleston and is west of the Ashley River, hence its name, and is the birthplace of Hootie & the Blowfish’s frontman, Darius Rucker. Lined with mossy oaks, the Ashley and Stono Rivers border West Ashley, creating the breathtaking scenery for which Charleston is known. West Ashley residents enjoy close proximity to the area's only indoor mall, the Citadel Mall, and a large number of big-box stores.
Situated seven miles due west of Downtown Charleston, residents can plan on a 15- to 30-minute drive, depending on traffic, to take in all downtown has to offer. Nearby Interstate 526, which feeds directly into Charleston’s Interstate Highway 26, gives residents a fast and easy route in and out of area. Mid- to late-1900s ranch-style homes characterize the housing in outer West Ashley, but neighborhoods built in the 2000s also sprinkle the area.

The staff is awful along with the terrible old falling apart apartments. Apartments look nothing like what is shown here. And in only the three months I stayed here there was a shooting in my neighborhood while I was at work. DONT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID STAY AWAY!
I personally have had a wonderful experience going through the rental process. Katy and Laurie have been exceptional. They made things easy and comforting while I was going through a tough transition in life, so I'm thankful for them both! nice apartments and amenities that will give you a pretty desirable way of life while you're here!

The apartment is very spacious, has a ton of closet space, and I love having a fireplace. The location is great, we are minutes away from everything. And, overall the community is very quite. I really enjoy my neighbors as well, everyone is very friendly and makes you feel right at home.

Such a convenient location nestled off of Ashley River Road and Magwood. Close to many restaurants within walking distance and the current staff is great. They are very attentive, and the landscaping is very nice.

I signed my lease a full month before mo I guess in. Was promised that all repairs would be done within a week......NOT!!! The place is old and out dated. I moved I. The middle of the pandemic with little to no choices. Apparently I live below the Jolly Green Giant beacause I can hear every footstep they make, including the dog running around. The gutters were down .....just laying in front of my apartment for months. It was finally moved but never repaired. I can hardly wait for my lease to be up. This place is NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!!! The only positive thing I can saw is that it is Less than 10 minutes to work, 2 grocery stores and TJ Max.

I moved in on July 8th, 2020. The apartment was dirty; walls and ceilings hadn't been painted in years(dirt rings on edge of ceiling and dirt on walls), floors were filthy and the vinyl (was told it was laminate) was stained from what appears to be flooding, there were no smoke detectors... only holes in the ceiling where they should have been, pieces of trim board were ripped off and missing, the walls around the patio door are crumbling and falling off, the thermostat is broken... i just gotta guess at the temperature of the room, the kitchen counters are so old and worn to the point of having no design on the formica, the refrigerator was missing the veggie drawer at the bottom, the burners would not fit the drip pans so they wouldn't go in, there's mold on the caulk in the bathrooms, the sink and tub would not drain, I have to flush the toilets multiple times for even TP to go down, I had to cover the bathroom vent with plastic because the smell of marijuanna from another apartment comes through the vent, and there have been so many bugs, roaches, palmettos, and moth larve pods that hang on the walls. It has now been nearly a month of trying to get these things taken care of. I was working with Linda, who described herself as "the fixer". She said she was brought in to get this complex in order. She also stated how embarrassed she was for the condition of the apartment and would take care of these problems. So, the dirty floors were cleaned before I moved in. The smoke detectors were installed right away. The drip pans were changed. The mold I cleaned myself using a Magic Eraser. After numerous attempts, the painter finally came out. This took them 2 days because the 1st day they never came back even though i was told to leave so they could paint. On day 2 the paint job was only half done. The ceiling corners are still dirty, they didn't paint the kitchen, the bathroom, or the foyer. When I got home (told to leave again) I called and asked for Linda to come look at the job. She never showed up. I walked to the office to talk with her. I was greeted by Daniel, the property manager to whom I voiced my concerns (Linda was no where around). I was told that he would not come look at the apartment and the painter sent him a video and it looks fine. I'm sure it looks very different on video than in person but he would come look for himself. And now, after cleaning up after the painters, there's paint all over the floor. He also informed me they

Ashley River is a great, affordable place to live. We looked at numerous apartment complexes and Ashley River has the best prices by far. We have had a great experience living here. Maintenance requests are fulfilled in a timely manner. Jeremy always gets the job done and is very friendly.

Living here since March has been such a lovely experience. Even though there have been a few changes of staff, the new staff and manager have made this experience so much better. They have quickly fixed any problems and been so diligent to our needs and problems. They have communicated issues around the complex very well and made this experience a good one.
Good community for the price. Recently moved from out of state and have had a pleasant experience so far. The ladies in the office (Amanda & Alana) are sweet and professional. I’ve had a few maintenance requests that have been handled in a professional & timely manner by Jeremey. Would recommend!
Moved in back in March, was told in February when I toured the Apartments that the pool would be done by the time we moved in and we got a location close to the pool so we could use it a lot. Its now August and the pool is still not open yet and looks like it’ll be another month or more. None of the grills work at the pool or around the property. The company just purchased another property right next door. They should be using their money to finish the pool or amenities and not be buying another property.

Don’t waste your time even looking. Staff and management are terrible and unresponsive to simple maintenance requests. The roof leaks every time it rains, dogs poop all over the place and no one cleans it up, we haven’t had any heat for the winter months and it doesn’t matter if we go the office and ask for help, call or email, there is no response. If that doesn’t deter you, I hope you smoke, because even though they make you sign an addendum not to smoke, every other apartment does and the vents are shared so inevitably your clothes and belongings will reek of smoke. We can’t wait for our lease to end. Worst place I’ve ever lived!

I love living at Ashley River Apartments! The management and all the staff here really care. They are efficient and work to fix any issues one comes across, and they pay great attention to detail. They have made my move effortless, and have made sure I enjoy where I am living.
We have lived here for just over a year and cannot wait for our lease to end. The management company changed a month or so ago and their concern for resident's happiness went with the old company. The staff in the office is rude and very unhelpful, even to include the office manager. They had one young lady, in the office, that was super friendly and helpful, but she's been gone for months. The maintenance guy is super nice but he's one lone man to maintain all of the apartments. We have a huge list of maintenance issues sitting in the que waiting to be done. The office always says things will be taken care of, but it never is. This is by far the worst place we've lived in the West Ashley area, and the most expensive too. We recommend renting elsewhere.
I have lived in this apartment for 3 years now, and love living at this location! it is located 15 min from Downtown, and is very close to several great restaurants in West Ashley! Close to grocery stores as well as the Mall, makes this location very convenient. The pool is very private and recently upgraded their patio furniture! The grounds have large Live Oak trees that help keep the location private!
if you are looking to make a home, keep looking. The company could care less about you as a tenant. They are wonderful when you walk in, but after that, they just want that check. Staff is unhelpful and unfriendly. Units are old and they can't seem to get them renovated. Power bills are high, because the units are not efficient. Like living in a tent. Don't expect the office to do anything when needed. They like to treat everyone exactly the same. Meaning that they will not go above and beyond to provide a great experience. Customer service is not what they do. I recently had a life experience that put me in a bind. They could care less. I would stay clear and look elsewhere. You'll be much happier.
The units are small for what you pay. Small kitchen with minimum counter space. Almost no storage. Small closets. They are showing their age as well. Layers upon layers of paint on the walls, cottage cheese ceilings, retro cabinets. Fridge and oven are newer but no microwave so you have to put one on the counter top, further limiting space. It's liveable at best. And the 1 bedroom units have a fireplace right in the optimum TV placement area. Who needs to burn wood in their apartment? Pool is nice, plenty of parking, friendly staff, area is safe, overal ok for a younger crowd but you can get much more at nearby properties for around the same price.
