The second largest city in Michigan, Grand Rapids rests on the Grand River, about 30 miles east of Lake Michigan. Formerly known as the Furniture City, Grand Rapids is now nicknamed the River City as well as Beer City USA for its riverside locale and proximity to 40 craft breweries. Grand Rapids is also the hometown of former United States President Gerald Ford. Fans of the 38th president can learn more about his life and impact on American history at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum.
Notable as an artistic haven, Grand Rapids hosts the annual ArtPrize competition, a 19-day affair drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors to the city and featuring artwork all throughout Downtown Grand Rapids. Frederik Meijer Gardens exhibits an expansive variety of sculptures and gardens both indoors and outdoors. Meyer May House is revered as one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural masterpieces.

Property Ratings at Ashton Woods
Shops are close, the upgraded apartments are beautiful, and the girls in the office are wonderful!
A big fat 0!!! New remodeled apartment full of mold!!! Cheaply remodeled!!! Run fast, better places to live.
Amy is terrific, super responsive from my initial contact! She listened to my needs and found the perfect apartment! Very impressive team at Ashton!! Everyone has been super helpful and very customer focused!
They trapped me into signing whatever by changing addresses on my move in date. I just came across the state with all my belongings in a truck and no place else to go. This was the 3rd address change while dealing with them. They told me I had to pay a non-refundable surety bond (equivalent to refundable deposits at most other apartments in this range) or pay a much higher rate for a refundable deposit (near 3 months rent!) If I had $2K lying around I would not have been moving in there. The place they changed us to was not even quite move in ready. We walked in while the maintenance was still setting up the gas stove (which was OLD and very dirty!) No baseboards for the carpet edges. The floor slanted. The AC took over a month to fix (they kept wanting to replace fuses instead of listening to my suggestion which finally fixed it!) The people in the office were often rude except for the gentleman we spoke to when looking for the place. He was very nice but left within a month of us moving in. They advertised a car wash onsite, but that really was a trellis cart corral.
I have been living in this complex for 4 years and it’s horrible. The parking lot is full of pot holes... the apartment is falling apart and when I put in work orders to have things done maintence takes their time. Our a/c went out 5 days ago and still no one is here to take a look at it. I have a 2 month old baby and their adittude is we’ll get to you when we get to you. Rent goes up every year but nothing changes smh
I have lived at Ashton Woods for only 4 months and its has been terrible since the first day. Upon move-in, there were a handful of issues - several outlets did not work; some sort of vermin had chewed through the existing internet cables and they had not been fixed; the fridge did not cool, and the freezer did not freeze; the previous tenant dumped their used kitty litter out outside my patio and it was not picked up prior to me moving in; the shower did not work, and they didn't come fix it until the next week; my window and one of my patio doors didn't even have locks on them; they hadn't even bothered to vacuum the carpets before I moved in, since there was hair embedded deep inside it. And this was all within the first week. Blinds are fragile and break when you try to open them - and when you request replacements, it takes up to 3 weeks. My dogs have gotten fleas from the surrounding park twice. There are things stuck between the carpet and the floor, and they hurt to step on. You are not allowed to contact maintenance yourself - you must go through one of the leasing agents in order to even communicate with the maintenance team. On top of this, my AC has been broken for a week, and the man who I've spoken to in the office about it has not been helpful at all. The one upside is that the leasing agent we usually work with is great. She is polite, well-spoken, and professional. All in all, don't move here. It doesn't seem like they even do anything to the apartment before you move in except re-paint it. They don't clean it or service it at all. There are better options in the surrounding area for a better price.
I think that the community could use many updates, just by paying more attention to detail. The roads leading into the property are really bad and it's been like this for a couple years, also the exterior buildings could use some paint. As far as the tenants, I have noticed that they have been having a lot of issues with roaches and bed bugs, and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. It's very unsettling when it can cost us residents so much having to throw away furniture or clothing. I like the office staff, although they seem to not be able to keep anyone for long. Maintenance is friendly but they do more band aide repairs than actually fixing things for the long run. Overall the size of the apartments are nice, but they also can use some updates. They charge you like $100 more for upgrades which have things that should actually be standard features in apartments in 2015, it would just be nice to feel like all the rent you pay(which continues to increase) goes to something other than the managers pockets. However the area is ideal, close to Kentwood schools, restaurants, and shopping. Highway 131 is about 15 minutes West, and 5 minutes East will take you to the Beltline, which links with other highways (i96 or i94 not exactly sure which one). Due to the issues above, I'll likely be looking for other housing options when my lease expires, probably purchasing a home as rents just continue to rise (usually more than what most of us can qualify for with that weird 3x the rent income requirement) and so do the risk(Pests, unsanitary neighbors, hoarders etc.) It's just not a renters world, which I hate because I truly have enjoyed the flexibility of renting but I guess it's time to grow up!
I have been at this complex for 2 years and really enjoy living here. They have a few extra amenity options, the complex next door also is available to use. Having a pool and weight room to use are great to use regularly. A park within walking distance and fenced in dog park are great options for parents with dogs or kids. Whenever something needs to be fixed the maintenance will respond in the same day.
