Property Ratings at Aspen Lakes
I live in Aspen Lakes for 3 years. It was an excellent experience! The staff are wonderful, the grounds are kept in a beautiful condition, the apartments are maintained meticulously, and the neighbors are friendly and considerate!
My wife and I highly recommend Aspen Lakes Home Apartments. We both felt very safe in our home and never had any issues. The office and maintenance staff were very friendly and professional. They do care about the residents and had many social events throughout the year for the residents. The floor plans and designed of the apartments were good. The clubhouse and activity center was always clean and nice. The workout room had good equipment and the pool was very nice in the summer time. The location was great, less then 1 mile to Kroger's and you have shopping centers and greenwood mall that are less than 5 miles away. Also, easy access to downtown Indianapolis using Bluff Rd and other roads near the apartment complex. We were on the 2nd floor with 3-4 garages below our apartment. Every time someone open or closed the garage door, you would hear and feel it when they open and close the garage door. At first it was hard to adjust to it, but we got used to it after a while. It would been nice if the walls and floors were more soundproof. Overall, our apartment building was quiet for most part. The average electric bill was between $140-$200 for two bedroom (higher then we expected), and average water bill was between $28-$38 for two people per month. Overall, great value for the price!
I have lived in numerous apartment communities in four states, and Aspen Lakes was, by far, the best community. The staff are consummate professionals and will work tirelessly to ensure your stay at Aspen Lakes is the best experience possible. Maintenance issues are handled expeditiously, the grounds are immaculate, the buildings and units are quiet, residents are friendly, the workout center and pool are fantastic and easily accessible, and an on-site car wash is very convenient, and costs are affordable. The only complaint I have about Aspen Lakes is I was unable to reside there longer due to a work relocation.
I advise you not to move here! Maintenance is good, but the office is clueless and can be rude, fees are senseless for simple things, and the parking situation is absurd. If your parking pass is not in the exact spot in the window (even if in the window to the side) the towing company will tow and the apartment staff will wash their hands of it and are very unwilling to help. Good luck retrieving your car on the other side of town! By the way, the visitor spots are in dark and unsafe spots when parking at nighttime! The grounds are well kept, they have a clean feel inside, but for a complex that is about to get washed up in the I 69 project, I think they charge way too much now having lived there. If the parking situation was not so ridiculous, it would be much better for us.
I did not have a good experience living in Aspen Lakes. The apartments are TERRIBLY inefficient! Our electric bill for a 2 bedroom apartment was in excess of $300 for the entire winter, compared to $40-$60 in the summer. I moved into a 3 bedroom home with double the space and still have not seen my bill reach this amount. Even with our bill being high, my bedroom on average was 50 degrees throughout the winter (I bought a thermometer to keep track)! So I was paying $300 a month and getting sick because my room was so cold! We contacted the office and they did send out service who gave us some pointers but still no change in our bill. The complex did nothing further to compensate for the inefficiency. Fast forward, we move out of our apartment (I could not endure another freezing, expensive, winter). A year and a half after we move out, I receive a notice from a collection agency stating that I have an outstanding balance with the complex. NO ONE contacted me! So I call the office and am told that the bill was sent to my roommate ONE time 1.5 years ago (she said she never received it). When I asked why they did not contact the other person on the lease (mind you, my checks were the ONLY ones used to pay the rent for the year we lived there so it makes no sense that they contacted her anyway) or even try to call one of us, they told me they were not obligated to do so. We BOTH filled out exit forms, so they had BOTH of our contact information, but rather than allowing me the opportunity to pay the bill by making ANY attempt to contact me, I now have a late/credit collections payment on my credit history. Then the woman had the nerve to tell me I should have called her to see if I owed them any money after I was already told at checkout that I would not be receiving my security deposit back (full disclosure: we did have damage to our carpet but we were specifically told that our security deposit would be used/withheld to cover it)! So in summary, I would not recommend anyone live here. I do not feel I got my money's worth while living in this extremely inefficient apartment. I also think their business practices are UNACCEPTABLE, I'm sure not a single person in that office would appreciate having their accounts handled in the way they handled mine.
I just renewed my lease for a second year. I am very happy with the apartment, it is an excellent value for the cost. The pool and gym are great, I feel very safe, and it is so quiet and peaceful. The staff are incredibly nice and welcoming. I have no gripes, except for the fact that there is no recycling here. I cannot believe the amount of trash that the complex community tosses each week - including mail flyers, soda bottles and other materials that could/should easily be recycled. It would be awesome if there were recycling bins by the mailboxes or trash compactor.
