Property Ratings at Aurora
If you’re looking to live somewhere with a pool, RENTER BEWARE! While they advertise that they have two pools, they are never open. When you tour, mention this post and ask to tour the pool!!!! The gym codes never work and the leasing agents have an attitude.
Management doesn't care, maintenance is horrible, and the apartments have a "spit shine" that quickly fades. I had so many problems with my previous unit that they had to move me to a new one, but the day before they told me I couldn't do it anymore. After fighting with them for 2 months over the issue and finally getting a new unit, this new one shorted out and i've been without power for 7+ days without any communication from them.

I am a current resident and without notice property management took a wall out and put-up uninsulated dry wall and a door without a lock or door knob on a night that got below freezing. They also boarded the door from the inside blocking my fire escape. They offer no explanation and have not been unhelpful in remedying the issue. I also noticed black mold during the unannounced renovation, and they failed to provide tests that demonstrate that the mold had not be released into my apartment. I have woke up to workers continuing to enter my residence without notice including mornings where I had just got out the shower. I would not recomment living in a place that does not respect your right to privacy and notice. Very unprofessional.

Thank you for your honest feedback. Please accept our sincerest apologies. When you have a moment please reach out to our leasing office so we can address your concerns. Thank you.
Please, please, pleaaasseee do not move in here. My other place fell through last year and I needed a reasonably priced apartment quickly. I used to live in Plaza and decided it would work for a year. This place is awful. The management is terrible and they blame it on being understaffed. I’ve had a leak behind the wall in my living room and mold growing from it ongoing for two months now which has been a complete hassle to try to get taken care of. I’ve had to go into the office and complain multiple times to get the ball rolling. I came home a few days ago to a hole in the wall with a tarp covering it.. had to go into the office AGAIN to find out what was going on since no one contacted me at all. My AC was out for 10 days a few weeks ago, many others were without it for months. We had crazy pool issues in the beginning of summer with people using it who didn’t even live here. So many bugs. All of this and they tried to raise my rent over $200 to renew.. yeah freaking right. I’m trying to get out of here as soon as possible.

I’ve been renting at Aurora Apartments since 2019 - the property was well managed. The leasing office staff was slow but they tried to do right by residents. In June of 2022, the property went under new management …The new property management and service team is truly horrible. Up until the switch I was really enjoying my time here at Aurora apartments but it has become abundantly clear to me that the new service team and property management do not care about addressing tenant concerns. I have waited two months to have basic maintenance requests be honored, with endless promises to address my concerns followed by radio silence. Until my experience as a resident improves, I cannot in good faith recommend this property,
I could write a three page essay on my experience here. Management changed at least 3 times since I stayed there (15 month lease) I lived on the top floor and still had a pest problem even though I paid for pest control. They do not waterpressure the buildings or clean the breezeways which is half the problem. People are moving in and out so much. The apartment across form mine had 4 tenants since I moved in. The apartments are not worth the price now that they have gone up. It’s not that bad if its all you can afford. Neighbors were friendly. Location isn’t bad

Both toilet wouldn't flush so I call on Saturday morning around 10 something. Got a call back from maintenance who said he was coming over. He arrived 2 hours later brought a plunger ran around the apartment with the toilet water dripping on carpet. I had to constrain my 20 month old in a corner. He couldn't fix it so he call a contractor. The contractor arrived after 8 pm, almost 8 hrs later. After 12pm he give up and left. I had to find place for my wife & baby to spend the night cause we couldn't use the shower & toilet. Contractor said he was coming the next morning to finish the job. 30 minutes after contractor left, water starting seeping on floor from under the toilet. Left message letting them know about it. I decided to stay since I was told someone has to be home. Had to pee in Milk cartoon that night & sleep on the couch as the room was stink. Next morning, I waited till around 10:30 am, no one showed up so I call & left a message. The on call person call back advising he will call a contractor. After 2 hours plus, I called to find out what's going on since no one has gotten back to me. I was told that it will take another 30 to 45 minutes to arrive. At this point I had to use the toilet badly & needed something to eat. I decided to get food & find place to toilet. I left a note on the door. Got back, the contractor was waiting. No one called me to say the contractor was waiting. I spoke to him. he reply saying "Not good I've been waiting for 40 minutes." I told him he should see how long I have to wait. 2 days without toilet. I had to go find place to use the toilet and get something to eat. He got upset saying is that how you gonna answer me. I ask what he expect me to say to him. I have been waiting for hours and I can hold my toilet in forever. He threaten to take his equipment and leave. I told him I did not hire him. If he leaves it's on him. He took his equipment and left. Few minutes later the on call person called saying the contractor was waiting for me. I told him the contractor is leaving and why. 2 hrs later I called and a lady answered. I explained to her and she said she'll call a contractor. 5 hrs since i spoke to her and no one has contacted me yet. No bathroom for the second night. Aurora Apartments/Ginkgo Residential doesn't seems to care about the tenants. They do not put effort in resolving emergencies. They don't call back or update, have no sense of urgency, don't care about the welfare of the kids living in these unit.

Hello, we pride ourselves on providing exceptional service, so we are disappointed to hear that your visit with us was anything less than satisfactory. We appreciate all reviews and appreciate you giving us the chance to improve by providing us with this feedback. The matter regarding your toilet was rectified when the seashell from your toilet line was removed and the toilet and line both were cleared by the outside contractor. We hope that you find that the work we completed in your home was satisfactory and acceptable to you. Thank you for allowing us to resolve this matter and we look forward to serving you in the future. Aurora (866) 590-2918
I moved into the complex only 3 weeks ago. On my scheduled move in date that was on the lease that I signed the apartment was not available. Then I was told I could move into a new one. Well then that one wasn't available. Then I was told I was getting a great deal by moving into a town home. Well they moved me into a town home that hadn't even been finished. There is paint on the carpet a razor blade left on the window sill, the fan in the bathroom is so loud a plane is landing and my ceiling fan had no pull chains on it to use it. Also Now the air conditioner has been needing to get fixed. 2 weeks ago I submitted a claim and had to resubmit one last week. I had to have it turned off to have it de thaw. Well turning it off it then was leaking into the walls and into the kitchen. Well now here I am several days later it is 88 degrees outside and no air conditioning and since it is under warranty another company has to come out to repair it and they might be out after 2pm today or tomorrow. Emails were sent to the office with pictures of the wall damage. They were just here and the AC guy said that the maintenance team turned off the wrong switch so he will be back tomorrow since it did not unthaw and to empty the bucket as it fills with water! I mean it is a newly renovated apartment and you don't care that now you will have to repair it all over again. It is ridiculous. I do not recommend this place at all for young professionals. Pay a little more and move somewhere else.

Thanks for the feedback, reviewer-name. We strive to provide excellent service to our residents at Aurora. You really made our day today. We truly appreciate your residency at Aurora. Wishing you a great day!!
I really like my new place at Aurora. It's really sweet and the rehabs are awesome. The site is clean and the team is very engaged and very friendly. The price is really good to for all that you get being so close to uptown! Keep up the good work Aurora!!
Absolutely the worst apartment Ive been in. When I left I found mold all under the carpeting and in the walls and the management told me there was no mold just "possible signs of moisture". They dont care about there tenents at all. As soon as they have your money and signature on the lease they forget all about you. Service requests take forever to complete, if they complete them at all. They left a huge hole in my all for 2 weeks while replacing an ac unit and never came to fix a broken lock on my door. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THESE TO ANYONE!!
I am a single 24 year old teacher, and I really want to love this place. Amazing location, friendly neighborhood, perfect balcony size, super spacious, ridiculously bug infested. I totally agree with the comments about management, however I rarely interact with them because I tend to stay to myself and not reach out for much (When I do, though, Robert is amazing.). I have to schedule for the exterminator to come to my apartment every single week. Every time I go to my kitchen I am in anticipation of seeing a roach scurry across. The reason I decided to write this review is because I just woke up from an afternoon nap, went into the kitchen to eat, and literally went to war with ELEVEN roaches!!! Now, they're not the huge, flying ones; they're the small, German ones. But either way, I pay entirely too much money to be cohabitating with roaches. I wish I could attach a picture so you could see how I don't live a dirty/messy lifestyle, but how that doesn't prevent roaches from finding a home with me. In my cabinets, dishwasher, coffee maker- wherever they can find a moist and/or warm environment..found out they can survive off cardboard alone. Shoutout to my cereal boxes. Moving forward, I have also picked up bed bugs! I thought maybe I brought them back from a vacation or something because the office said no one else has complained of them, but that is absolutely not the case. I have spoken with several of my neighbors who also have bed bugs and don't know where they came from. I saw one of them receiving the heat treatment for their apartment today. Icing on the cake? I am fully responsible for paying for the $700 treatment (I would've fought it, but my signature is on the page where it's spelled out in my lease. Never would've thought that'd be an issue). If I weren't moving out in 2 months I would absolutely break my lease. I have NEVER lived in a gross environment. I never let the dishes sit in the sink for long, and when they are in the sink, all of the food is rinsed off. Please hear me when I say, it is not worth it to live here. I'm pretty sure I have developed an anxiety disorder in the 15 months I have lived here (it's been so long because bugs are no issue at all in the winter months). Find something that was built correctly from the beginning, rather than an apartment that applied gold spray-paint onto some trash.
I spent over a year a 2 differnet units. 1st one was renovated and looked nice, but shortly after things started breaking. I went 2 months without a washer and dryer that is included in the rent without having any kind of reimbursement. The second unit was bigger but all work done to the house was by lazy contractors that obvioulsy were the bottom bidder. Black mold in every single air vent too. After moving after without even complaining much, they decide to send me a remaining balance but failed to call, write, or email my forwarding address. Now i have a collection agency asking me for the remainder. This Complex thrives on low income families to take advantage of and they do not care after you sign the lease.
I broke my lease because this place is so horrible. I echo the other reviewer in that I wish I could give them 0 stars. This place is one of the worst I have ever encountered. -The management is completely incompetent. -Maintenance is delayed, incomplete and unresponsive. -The neighborhood constantly has police cars parked outside and pulling people over on the streets in front. -There are car break-ins I must reiterate - the management is absolutely unqualified, unprepared and ill-equipped to run a business. To give you some examples: -The breezeway door was BROKEN and remained that way for TWO MONTHS despite FOUR maintenance requests. Incompetence to the highest degree. -The changed the locks on the breeze-way without telling the residents and without providing a new key. I got back from a business trip and was locked out of my place. When I got the new key they offered no apology. Stay away from this place.
I wish I could rate this property 0 stars!!!! I lived here when they were under a different company. The staff was friendly, management was always willing to help, and maintenance was great. Once the new company took over, all things went down immediately. I actually used to enjoy living here, but the staff is so rude (except for the guy...I think his name is Robert) and the maintenance sucks. I can call and ask to speak to a manager or the assistant, and no one ever comes to the phone (or if they do, they relay a message and say that they will call back). If I go in to talk to someone, the management never comes out. The one time that I actually caught the assistant manager, she was extremely rude and didn't seem too concerned about too much of anything. I have put in request after request for the same things over and over again and nothing seems to be getting done. I have talked to my neighbors, and they all seem to have the same experience. I NEVER had these issues before, but now is a different story. I am not one to post bad reviews, but this certainly deserved it. I have had many friends that are looking for an apartment and had loved mine, but I will no longer recommend this place to anyone. If you are interested in gaining more business or keeping your residents happy, then they should really fix the management and maintenance team that are in place. The only person that is ever willing to help is the guy that I mentioned above, but there is ony so much he can do as far as fixing things. This could really be a great place to live again!!!
I was a resident at Oak Park for a year. While the location is great- about 15 min walk to all bars, etc- the management is terrible. My dishwasher broke, and they suggested my boyfriend do the repairs because he does demo for their new construction on-site. He is not on maintence payroll. I also put in a work order for my floor to be fixed. Charlotte housing authority suggested the floor was a safety hazard- they floor was never repaired, nor was my concern even addressed. The staff lost my move-out paperwork, so I was forced to stay a month beyond my regular lease. Management also promised two months free rent if I were to sign a new lease, but when it came to do so, because the free rent offer was not in writing, it was not honored. Nice space, horrible management. Certain maintence personnel are also very prejudiced, and my security deposit was kept for a stained carpet, even though the apartment was literally demolished the next week.
After constantly moving around this city, I'm home. I'm minutes from uptown, the art district and all the awesomeness in plaza midwood. I enjoy my neighbors and the community. We have a great maintenance team. "Honey,I'm home"
