Property Ratings at Avalon Tysons Corner
Feral cats. Raccoons. Rats. Mice. Bugs. That's just the start of the Avalon Tyson's Corner experience. All of the emergency exit lights were broken July 2022 and as of Sept 2024, about half of them have been fixed. Just imagine if it takes them over 2 years to fix an emergency exit light, how long it will take them to fix your broken stove or leaking pipes (hint: months). Enjoy your $250 power bill in your tiny apartment because your AC is from 1980. And don't bother opening a window unless you want your apartment filling up with cigarette smoke, or if you live on a ground floor, the smell of the dog poop and trash that is EVERYWHERE.
On the townhome side. We fell in love with location and the superb staff made it even better. Dennis in maintenance is an example of a 1st class worker. He listens to your needs and handles them immediately. Above and beyond.
You don’t realize how little actual peace and quiet there is here until you move in. Definitely not “luxury living.” Mechanical noise (old, loud systems), neighbor noise, hallway noise, moving in and out noise, plumbing noise, leaf blowing noise, carpet replacement, maintenance noise, kid noise, heavy stomping noise, neighbor washer and dryer in your wall noise. One full day of peace. You will be desperate for it after living here.
I had such a horrible experience that I had to let people know to avoid this place. I couldn't get out of there fast enough! (please check other reviews which seem to have the same issues). Online pictures are deceiving. There are so many problems with this community. Constant maintenance issues, AC doesn't work, poor management, security gate always broken.
Pool is overrun with loud kids running and splashing. Fitness room has broken equipment and gets dominated by men lifting, many letting their weights drop and leaving little space for women to feel at ease. Trash are is disgusting and you have to throw boxes and recycling across to open bins overflowing. The apartments are cheaply put together and it shows. Even worse nothing is high quality so everything breaks down or leaks. The washing machines ruin clothes, the heating and cooling systems are not built to work sufficiently in the spaces they are assigned to. People speed, piggy back at the gates and let kids run around the complex. You will hear everything your neighbor does and the office staff is young and inexperienced. I would never want to thinking my family or a friend living here.
It's sad to me to know that a select few running Avalon are making money while we as residents are without heat during record cold April days, suffering leaks that maintenance has to come look at in our homes at midnight and watching tow truck drivers with free access to our "gated" complex walk around checking the inside of our cars for parking stickers. If its about marketing or making money this company is all over it. If its about quality of life and basic things like heat then it's left to the hard working maintenance team who does not make the money or ever get a break from the constant break downs in this complex.
The leasing office was ridiculous. I booked a tour at 1:30 but lost in the area couldn’t find the leasing office. Tried to reach out to them by the phone number on Google map but was directed to someone who are not familiar with this area. We didn’t receive any phone call from the leasing office and finally when we got connected with the leasing office by 1:45, they told us unfortunately we are serving someone else and you need to reschedule. You should have call. Excuse Me????? What leasing office only schedule 15min for an tour??? The leasing office smells disgusting like rotten wood. And we drove about 2hrs to have this tour in person. They just acted as they don’t care about your feelings at all. Couldn’t imagine what gonna happened if we choose to live here. The finish of the apartments is 70s or 80s style, old and ugly. The only reason I want to look is because the townhouse style. This is the worst leasing office I have seen ever after seeing tons of apartments and I will not live in any Avalon apartments. Avalon sucks!
Dirty. Trash everywhere. Apartments are falling apart. If you are smart stay away.
I have been an Avalon resident twice, Two years 2014 through 2016 and again from 2017 to 2019. I have been relatively happy outside my truck being towed when it was legally parked; $1,000.00 and assorted minor maintenance issues. No AC, Dishwasher did not work, twice my apartment was flooded from the people above me. And that the month after I started renting this apartment the same unit in a different building was renting for $150 a month less. I still did not complain. This time the management has torqued me. Avalon is now charging a one time fee of $500.00 fee for Common Area/Amenities. This was implemented a few months ago. Thought my fault for not reading the details of the lease, I have been here three years prior and never had to worry about added fees. I feel that this is a completely unnecessary fee that should be included in my rent not added after the fact. I was just told that had I brought up the fee prior to signing my lease the fee may have been waved. That tells me two things. One: It is unnecessary as it could have been waved. Two: They rather take $500 now knowing they just lost a person that was happy, in spite of having a truck towed at the cost of $1,000.00 and lost wages. I have referred people to the complex in the past and will now go out of my way to say this is a cheap organization that is willing to rip off people than have them happy. So I will report this every day to be sure this posting stays current.
The walls and floors are very thin here and there are quite a number of young children running roughshod, screaming and playing in the middle of the streets of this complex. Furthermore, when this behavior and those who are doing it are brought to the attention of the apartment complex, they argue *FOR ALLOWING* the behavior. Stating that the behavior is okay as it occurs outside of "quiet" hours. That, despite their own lease specifically stating that tenants are prohibited from engaging in behavior that disrupts others "quiet enjoyment" of their unit. Stay away from this place.
Great location! Metro, supermarket and mall all within walking distance. Not far from other convenient stores like Bed, Bath and Beyond, Walmart and small town nearby as well. Can't be beat.
