Hillandale begins on the north side of Duke University and includes the Watts Hospital-Hillandale Historic District. This charming area dates back to 1908 and consists of arts and crafts style homes built in the early 1900s. The neighborhood follows Hillandale Road north to Horton Road. The Crossdaile Country Club is on the west side of the neighborhood. Hillandale is a wooded neighborhood filled with parks, hiking trails, and cozy streets lined with charming homes. Its small-town, rural feel belies its proximity to Downtown Durham, just minutes southeast.
Being so close to Duke University, residents have fast access to Duke University Hospital, Sarah P. Duke Gardens, Duke Forest, and the Nasher Museum of Art. On the south end of the neighborhood, the Shops at Erwin Mill is filled with popular shops, restaurants, cafes, and a Whole Foods Market.

Property Ratings at Crossdale Flats
My apartment was great in terms of the space and price, but the management has been terrible at times. I moved into my apartment, and there was an entire window missing, like a hole in the wall for the outdoors. They took several days to add a window, so I moved in about a week after my lease began. I was not compensated for this even though it was a safety hazard, and I could not move in then. Upon move-in, one of the bathtubs was on and could not be turned off until maintenance fixed it after at least a week of waiting. There were no smoke detectors (even though that is legally required), and they were only placed in my apartment after sending in multiple maintenance requests and emails. We also had serious roach problems and had to wait a while for exterminators to come, which helped for a little bit. Now, my roommates and I get roach bait and spray and try to kill them all ourselves because we got tired of waiting for management to be convinced that our roach problem was bad enough to warrant an exterminator call.

I can't even begin to tell you how much I love living here! Everyone has been wonderful and I love my new apartment. Very spacious and super cute! I live so close to everything which is super convenient. The leasing and moving process was a breeze. Thank you to the wonderful staff for making my move so pleasant.

This property is newly remolded and the interiors are large with so much natural sunlight and great porches or balconies. You must make sure to check out the newly rennovated interiors, they are great! After touring a few nearby properties I felt Croasdaile Flats offered, not only the best finished and most modernized renovations but also they largest units. The pool is great in the summertime and there is so much greenspace it feels quite, tranquil, and relaxing.

I wouldn’t recommend anyone to stay here! They’re extremely inconsiderate and the way they conduct business is ridiculous! I could go on for days on the many issues we’ve had since day 1. Go spend your money somewhere else ESPECIALLY if you have kids!
