Property Ratings at Ball State University Apartments
They kick you out 1 day after graduation which leaves you with 1 day to move out and clean everything. Not only that but apparently we didnt vacuum well enough so were charged 300 dollars. Ridiculous. The customer service is a joke. They hardly ever know what they are talking about and you have to call someone else 90% of the time. Its cheap, but just go somewhere a bit more expensive and get roommates. Its worth it.
My daughter lives in Scheidler Apartments with two other girls. A week and a half before the end of the first semester, one of the girls said she was moving out due to getting an ESA. The housing staff met with her alone and let her transfer her lease and let her out of the lease of this apartment. AND they decided for the families of the remaining girls that they (the families) would pick up the extra cost. So the housing staff can let someone out of a lease and they can pass the expense on to you. This is not in the lease itself but it is in a separate handbook to which the lease references.
Apartments are okay. I live in a 2 bedroom in Anthony. It's tiny. My queen size bed takes up about 3/4 of the 'master' bedroom. It hasn't been updated since the 90s. Very little counter space in the kitchen. Bathroom looks like it came straight from a shady motel. No washer dryer hookups in the apartments, but they do have laundry rooms (expensive to do laundry in them though, considering they only work about half the time). Air conditioning in the living room only so at the beginning of the academic year it's impossibly hot in the bedrooms even with the air conditioner running. Heater vents are along the baseboards, and they cover about half of all the rooms so it really limits where furniture can go. It's quiet though. Rarely if ever hear the neighbors. They do apartment checks twice a semester and it's super annoying. They have apartment assistants who put on things that residents can go to; I've never gone so I can't say much about them. Rent is okay, on the higher side for what the apartment is worth. Only good thing is that all utilities, cable, and internet are included. Anthony does not have any outdoor space for residence (no patio or yard). Sheidler is two story townhouses, but they do not have air conditioning and you can only bring/have one window air conditioner for the entire unit. I'm not living here next year because the apartments are pretty run down and I cannot justify the cost anymore.
Property Manager at Ball State University Apartments, Responded To This Review
Hello Valued Resident, We thank you for your thoughtful review of University Apartments as we continuously strive to meet the needs of our residents and provide affordable and quality living close to campus. We conduct renovations for both our Anthony and Scheidler complexes on a continuous basis and look forward to the opportunity to provide residents with up-to-date living accommodations. A few recommendations you mentioned in your review are currently underway. For example, we are in the process of installing air conditioning (PTAC) units in all of our Scheidler apartments in both the downstairs and upstairs. Several units in both Scheidler and Anthony bathrooms have been updated to include pedestal sinks as well as modern kitchen fixtures. New roofs in Anthony and new sidewalks in Scheidler are other improvements we have recently made. Though we offer laundry within a very limited amount of our units, the majority of laundry must be done in the community laundry facilities as you have indicated. The costs are determined campus-wide, however, we work to have maintenance inspect the machines on a routine basis. We regret if you experienced any inconvenience as a result of an improperly functioning machine. We have worked to ensure that submitting a work order is a pain-free process. We are glad you have found the all-inclusive rent and the quiet atmosphere to be benefits of living in University Apartments. We are able to offer green space in both complexes with a volleyball court and playgrounds. We recognize that our infrequent safety inspections may pose an inconvenience but our goal is to be able to provide comfortable physical facilities that are free of any maintenance issues, and we’ve best been able to maintain this by way of these inspections. Again, we value your honest feedback and thank you for taking the time to review University Apartments. Thank you, University Apartments Staff
