Property Ratings at Barclay on Beacon
Great location as long as you don’t mind horrible management, the new heat system that costs $300-$400 per month, never working elevators. I’m really surprised to see such a high rating. Most long term tenants are now moving out.
Lived at Barclay House for over 2 years, all in all it is a great place to live. The apartments are large and the concierge service is a great bonus. My interactions with management has always been very pleasant and professional and they seem to maintain the building very well.
I have lived in Brookline for about 10 years now. All of the buildings are old in Brookline, so that is expected when living in the neighborhood. The management in the building have always been very nice and professional towards me and my wife. Anytime something has happened with the apartment they have gone out of their way to make us happy. Even during last winter when we had over 100 inches of snow, they were there late at night making sure there were no issues caused by the snow. The location is perfect! We can walk to Coolidge corner/Washington square in ten minutes. The T is right there!!!
If you're looking for an apartment in Brookline - THIS IS THE LAST PLACE YOU WANT TO LIVE. Management in the office is a scumbag - highly ineffective and one of the least professional young men I've ever met. LOOK ELSEWHERE.
I lived there for 2yrs. and loved the location, because my son could walk to Driscoll School. The T is so convenient, literally right outside your door. There is a large balcony where you can put an electric grill and a table and chairs. The security is good in the building and overall it's an ok place to live.
Do yourself a favor and do not move into Barclay on Beacon. While it may charm you with a nice view and closeness to the T, the downsides are way too much. First of all - the management is the most incompetent bunch I have ever seen. Everything is always a problem with them. Completely unresponsive and unwilling to solve anything. Second, they allow smoking in the building. Who still does that??? The smell of cigarettes, cigars, and weed is constant. And it's in YOUR apartment! It easily goes through ventilation system and spreads everywhere. Next, windows. Oh, wow. The most drafty apartment I have ever been to. When it's windy outside - it will be windy inside. And I'm not just saying slight breeze. It will be WINDY. Things have been blown off the windowsill on many occasions. In the winter you will be either hot or cold. No middle ground. The thermostats are far off the windows, so by the time the cold propagates to it - you will be frozen. But then the heat will kick in and by the time it propagates to the thermostat - you will be sweating. It's a constant cycle of too hot then too cold then too hot and so on. Finally, noise. The green line is especially loud, and you will hear it! No matter which floor you're on. So, you will be waking up at 5 with the first T, and you will be woken up after midnight with the last one. And a final kicker - they raise the rent 10%! I am not kidding - 10%. Spoke to tenants who have been there for more than a year - everyone said they do it yearly. In summary, as I said in the beginning - do not move in.
