South Shore is a neighborhood just south of Austin that provides endless entertainment opportunities all year round.
Just across Lady Bird Lake, bounded to the south by East Riverside Drive, this Austin suburb enjoys some of the best views of the Texas state capital. Winding river walk paths and bike lanes are draped along the northern border along the reservoir, while the eastern area of the community is dominated by Roy G. Guerrero Colorado River Metro Park. A nexus of golf courses and sports fields within the park give the area an active feel.
Popular spots like The Buzz Mill and the occasional food truck popup can be found on the aforementioned East Riverside Drive — the area’s main thoroughfare. South Shore and the surrounding Riverside and Pleasant Valley neighborhoods continue to grow as renters look for apartments near the ever-growing city, but at better prices and with less hustle and bustle.

Property Ratings at Berkshire Riverview
All the benefits of living in this condominium are overshadowed by the lack of security! Despite having entry sensors, some access gates remain open 24/7 due to poor maintenance. There are no security cameras in the garage or storage areas, and no camera where deliveries are made. The garage gate is frequently broken, allowing anyone to enter. My experience has been frustrating: just two weeks after moving in, two locked bicycles were stolen, and the storage unit I pay $55 per month for was broken into, with all my belongings stolen. There is a severe lack of maintenance, security, and cleanliness, and a strong odor in the common areas. This condominium, although close to downtown and the river trail, offers very little security and shows no signs of improvement.
Property Manager at Berkshire Riverview, Responded To This Review
We work hard to provide peace of mind for our residents, so we are truly sorry to hear of your experience. Unfortunately, crime can happen anywhere, and we encourage everyone to take precautions and report any suspicious behavior. We have noted your feedback about maintenance and will address these needs as soon as possible. In the meantime, we encourage you to email us at riverview@berkshireresi.com so we can talk further.
People's cars get broken into every other night. I'm not even exaggerating. Also, one of my friends had his bike stolen, his cage broken into 2 times, and his motorcycle raided 2 times. Security here is poor. It's legitimately a big reason I want to move out.
You know that scene in Home Alone, where Kevin's sister tells him: "Kevin, you're what the French call les incompetent?" That's how I'd describe the Berkshire Riverview staff. Now, working in an apartment leasing office is a hard, difficult job....Actually, not it's really not at all. It's a job mediocre people drift into when they don't have any actual skills or ambition. So that means the people in charge of keeping your home safe and running are one step above Walmart employees. This has come to a head lately, as there is an EPIDEMIC of car break-ins. People's cars are outright BEING STOLEN OUT OF THE GARAGE! And they do nothing. Management is "getting quotes" for a private security company. They've been "getting quotes" for a year and change. Those must be some thorough quotes! Why is it taking so long? Probably because of the inept deadbeats stumbling around the leasing office all day. If you live here, your car might get stolen, but the leasing people work 9-6, live elsewhere, and probably make $12 an hour. So what do they care? Answer: they don't. This apartment complex is incredible unsafe. I haven't even touched on all the other problems lately: wifis, broken amenities that aren't fixed, non-functioning elevators, etc. Don't live here. And don't heed the obviously fake positive reviews.
The apartments themselves are well built, repairs are quick and common areas are clean. The biggest problem is security - I've been robbed 3 times in the past 2 years here. Most of the residents here have either gotten locks broken, or garaged cars broken into and vandalized. Paying premium prices should mean basic security.
Riverview Apartments are a great complex to live and has easy access to I-35, Downtown, and East Austin Hotspots. The staff is very respectful and friendly. Ife and Angeline are the two leasing staff I mainly communicated with and each of them goes out of there way to quickly answer questions and resolve issues. The complex manager Justin is a class act as well. He was very understanding when my family had to break out lease and move abruptly. The office was kind, respectful, and courteous to us from the day we came to tour until our final day as tenants. I forgot to mention all of the community events they throw for the residents. They are fun and help you meet your neighbors, which makes the feel/vibe of the complex more friendly and positive. I highly recommend Riverview for those of your having a hard time deciding which property to lease within the area. You will enjoy your time there!
Absolutely one of the worst customer services that you will ever receive as a resident. The apartments here could be cheaper than the rest of the area, but the management group makes it their full time mission to charge each resident some ridiculous fees to make up for their loss. They towed my car twice from the resident parking garage. I woke up early to start my day and go workout; the first thing I find is my car was gone, what's a more miserable feeling than that? they didn't even want to pay the $200 towing fees. I had to Uber everywhere that morning. The manager Justin didn't want to do anything about it and even took a defensive position blaming me for making this awful situation. When I read the rest of the negative reviews before I moved in, I didn't think it will be this bad of an experience. I definitely advise against joining this residential complex and will personally rather paying a higher rent somewhere else where they respect their residents than continuing to live here. The complex has so much availability now because no one is joining them and very few residents renew their leases. You don't get what you pay for. The management makes it their full time mission to increase silly fines and fees on residents to make up for their general loss. Nonetheless the elevators and floors are filthy most of the day from dog and trash smells. some residents leave their trash on the door front and the smell of the hallway is disgusting.
Riverview Apartments also stole my security deposit and created additional charges after I moved out, which seems to be their standard operating procedure based on the reviews left by other former tenants. During the walk through inspection prior to moving out, Delma, a Riverview Apartment employee, confirmed to my wife and I that we fulfilled our duty of returning the unit in the condition we received it. Delma actually praised us for the condition the apartment was left in! If they tell you it's a deposit when you move in, do not plan on getting it back. If getting your deposit back is important to you because you’ve done the right thing, I would not recommend living at the Riverview Apartments.
Lived here for 2 years. Riverview stole my security & pet deposit after move out. One of Riverview's staff members told my fiance and I previously that we didn't need to spackle over holes in the wall & that we could leave them. After moving out, we were charged $443 because they spackled / painted over the holes.... When I confronted Riverview via email, the girl (Delma) who I was writing back and forth with just dropped off and stopped replying...because you know, damage control. Instead of just owning up to their mistake they forced me to foot the bill. That's just slimy. Don't be fooled by their "professional" personalities in person, they won't solve real issues when they matter. --------------------------------------------------------------- PROS - Location. Being able to walk the trails & boardwalk 10 minutes walking distance to Rainey St & 15 minutes to downtown - 1 BR APT. Roomy 1095 sq ft with a full bath & half bath. --------------------------------------------------------------- CONS - Leaking fridge, broken door handle & TP dispenser upon move in. No new filters for fridge water. Two lights went out in the first 2 months. They don't do real maintenance prior to move-in. - You can hear dogs barking through the walls. - The dog poop epidemic here is unacceptable. It's not uncommon to find dog poop in the stairwells, elevators, or parking garage. It's all over backyard, gated areas, and side areas of Riverview. When it rains, the dog poop smell is absolutely atrocious. - Riverview isn't smoke-free as advertised. People smoke off their balconies and throw their cig buds wherever they please. This especially sucks when you want to open your balcony door to let fresh air into your apartment and you're forced to smell cig smoke. One morning I woke up and found my dead plant had caught on fire and had been scorched. My chain smoking neighbor above me had dropped his cig buds into my potted plants. - Coffee Machine was frequently broken or out of coffee. - The TV near the grill area was broken for months before they fixed it. - Backyard & Dog Park area is so mucky / muddy that I stopped taking my dog back there. - Their online support is a hit or miss. It's either extremely fast or they don't respond at all.
Pros: Quality construction, great location, lots of community social activities, ammeneties (including free yoga class 3 nights a week), sound (my unit faces the pool, and even on block party holidays, almost no noise comes through the double-pained windows), friendly neighbors of all demographics, pre-wired for AT&T Gig Fiber (other services are available, you're not held captive to one) Cons: Things like losing your barcode sticker or key fob (which is required to get in any door) out a lot to replace ($100 ), individual unit doors lock automatically (you can flip a switch to disable, but it goes back the next time you lock your door from the outside.), if you get locked out after hours, your only option is to call a locksmith, and this last one is just my floor plan (ADA studio , even though I'm not disabled). Mine has NO storage space. Nothing at all in the bathroom, no pantry, and only one long hall closet. I think 1 br and up are different.
These apartments are a great place , right on the river and close to all downtown venues. The amenities are nice as well free bike and paddle board rentals and they throw neat community events every month.
I have been at Riverview since September and so far so good. The best part about this place is the location. I am a runner and I love being right on the boardwalk/hike and bike trail. I'm on the 10th floor and I have a killer view of downtown as well. I have never had any maintenance issues, the one request I put in (clogged sink) was taken care of within 48 hrs. The worst part about this place is the parking garage. The rows and corners are very tight and people drive like morons. If you work 8-5 add a few couple of minutes to your morning commute, turning right in the morning is a huge pain in the butt and forget about making a left. Overall I would recommend this apratment complex however.
