Property Ratings at Bishop Street Lofts
Extremely disrespectful, drunk, and loud neighbors. It's unbearable. Rent goes up by every single year.
Do yourself a favor and don’t live here. The walls are paper thin, so you can hear a lot of what your neighbors do. Which means they can hear you too and there’s really no privacy for anyone. There’s also a gym downstairs, so even if your neighbors are silent, you’ll hear weights slamming all day long. The gym uses noxious chemicals on their floor that got upstairs and repeatedly forced people to evacuate their apartments. The water tastes so much like chlorine that it’s barely drinkable unless you invest in a filter. After finding a kind of disease-carrying sewer roach in our unit, we learned from the pest control service that they are not an uncommon occurrence in the building. Our unit was outdated and the finish on our floors was either poorly done or so worn that it would flake off and get all over our skin and furniture. The building is old and needs a lot of repairs, and the landlord fixes everything as cheaply as possible instead of doing it right. At one point the gate to the parking lot broke probably once a week for almost two months before any real repair was made to fix it for good. Aside from the issues with the building and the landlord, some of the neighbors are incredibly disrespectful. Residents regularly had their packages stolen from the package room, and dogs use the hallway and the lobby as a restroom. Despite the deteriorating conditions in the building, the already-high rent was raised at the height of the pandemic when most other buildings offered discounts to their tenants. So yeah, stay away from Bishop St Lofts.
Property Manager at Bishop Street Lofts, Responded To This Review
This review and the other review posted about the same day are from a disgruntled tenant. The tenant purchased a home and asked if the Landlord could rent the unit early so they could avoid paying both rent and a mortgage. The manager was unable to rent the unit earlier than the lease expiration but still granted a discount of $500 off the rent for the month of overlap. The accommodation was not sufficient for this tenant so they left a nasty review. This tenant stayed in the building for several years, so despite their review they deemed it a good enough building to renew more than once.
Don’t be fooled by the positive reviews they received a gift card in exchange for the review. If you’re considering moving here, don’t. It is not worth the price. The building has an oriental roach problem- which are a health hazard to people and pets. The walls are thin and you can hear your neighbors and their dogs barking at all times of the day. Some residents let their dogs defecate in the halls and lobby so it usually smells like urine in the common areas and always smells right outside the front door since there isn’t a grassed area anywhere around the building. The building is extremely old and needs a lot of repairs, including plumbing so the water gets shut off often and many times without any notice. Packages get stolen frequently and even someone’s doormat was stolen. The entire first floor is a gym so you’ll hear loud music and heavy weights being dropped everyday. The gym has been using toxic chemicals on their floors that seeped upstairs, resulting in people have to evacuate their own apartment. And xfinity is the only internet provider available and has frequent outages in the area.
Ever since Aries took over management of the building, we have gotten some much needed upgrades! New roof furniture that’s great for hosting and a brand new grill. I don’t have a dog but we now have a industrial dog bath in the old laundry room and a bike rack coming soon. Brett is also very quick to respond whenever we have building issues. The tenants in this building are pretty laid back and it’s a younger crowd. Beautiful exposed brick in every unit.
I love living here! The unit is just gorgeous & I love being in a neighborhood that has so many locally-owned, family-owned businesses to support. Management has always been very responsive to any questions or requests, and they didn't give me any trouble at all when I got a dog with only 2 days notice. Everyone who lives in the building is also very nice-- I found someone to help me jump-start my car on the first day I moved in!

Thank you for the positive review. We love dogs too!
My boyfriend and I are going on our 3rd year living here! I'm born and raised in chicago and chicago suburbs. I've also lived in 4 different neighborhoods throughout the city and this is by far my favorite neighborhood and apartment. The exposed brick, high ceilings, and spacious storage makes for a great living environment. Management is very responsive (which is rare in chicago) and there has never been any cleanliness issues. The rooftop and location are spot on and perfect. You are soooo close to everything here; bars, grocery stores, restaurants... all short walking distance. I would say the ONLY con is that parking is getting pretty limited now that the neighborhood is getting more popular. There is one side of the street that is permit and the rest of the small street is free. It doesn't help that the public fitness center doesn't notify their members to read the signs. However, this is out of the management control. They also provide a gated off parking lot but its pretty expensive. Aside from that this is the perfect place to live.

We appreciate the positive review. Thank you for being a great tenant.
The best place I've lived. Decent pricing, cool rooftop, great location, and responsive management. No complaints here!
We have enjoyed our 4 years at this property for several reasons: the apartments are relatively large and well priced (exposed brick and many have views of downtown Chicago in unit), there is a GREAT shared rooftop space, and the owners have all been responsive whenever we have problems. It is in a wonderful location re walkability and proximity to public transit and amenities like cafes/restaurants. The pet policy here has also been helpful. The new management company have been particularly excellent at responding to requests and making additional upgrades to the building.

Thank you for the positive review. Rooftop furniture and renovated lobby coming soon.
I've been living in this apartment now for 3 months and I love it. It has a spacious living room and wonderful high ceilings. The location is great. It's right off of 18th which is where the restaurants it's right across the street from a grocery store. It has gated parking and a shared rooftop deck with a great view of the Chicago skyline. The only downsides are the bedroom is small compared to the rest of the apartment, there is minimal storage, and the laundry is in the basement. I would highly recommend this apartment.
