Downtown Indianapolis is a true marvel of American urban design, and is rightly recognized as one of the stylistic gems of the Midwest. The grand architecture of the various government buildings and museums ranges from neoclassical to ultra-modern, creating a timeless and visually stunning environment. Huge monuments and war memorials punctuate the landscape as well – in fact, Indianapolis has more such public tributes than any city in America apart from Washington, DC.
Downtown features a thriving nightlife scene, mainly along Meridian Street and Massachusetts Avenue and incorporating an immense selection of bars, clubs, and live music venues for every taste. The dining is unbeatable, with world-class restaurants of every description within a short walk from anywhere and the popular Food Truck Fridays delivering more eclectic fare during the summer months.

Property Ratings at The Block
I have very similar sentiments as the other reviewers. Brookside properties is clearly not taking care of the building and their residents. There are issues with the elevator, the gym, security and just basic upkeep. I've debated staying versus the cost of moving but ultimately I am willing to pay more for an apartment and a management company that treats their residents with respect and courtesy. There are many apartments downtown that do a better job than The Block. Also the restaurant downstairs creates a horrible smell in the lobby. P.S. Brookside management... fix the elevator! Having only 1 elevator for a year is horrible.

This apartment used to be an amazing place to live. Brookside Management came in and decided not to put any money into the property. Within the building there around various Airbnb units. Actual residents see strangers everyday and ultimately leads to an issue with security. Since these airbnb guests open doors for random strangers on the street. One incident is an AirBnb guest pulled the fire alarm so hard the strobes lights were going off from 11pm on Friday until 1pm on Saturday. Management does not pay for emergency requests so the residents has to wait until business hours for someone to fix the alarm. Just imagine a quite Saturday morning with strobe lights in every room of your apartment going off. There is only one elevator for 140 units and the 2nd elevator has been down since December 2023. Of course Management never provides an update. At this point I don't think they are even working on fixing it. Ultimately this building was amazing, but unfortunately Brookside properties does not care about its actual tenants. So I recommend anyone to look at any other building. There are lots of great options besides The Block.

After living at the block for some time now. I feel as if this is an extremely honest review. There are many AirBnB units in this building, so you see a constant stream of strangers with luggage every day. They will ask you question as if this is a hotel. There is no security at this apartment building, the locks are usually broken in the garage and exterior doors. The AirBnB guests always open the door for people they do not know, letting is homeless people. The Gym has no air flow so you're breathing in carbon dioxide for the work out. The garage door has been broken for months. Lastly there is only one elevator for 150 units. Noting the other elevators has been down since December 2023, and management has never provided an update. There are plenty of apartment options in Indianapolis, this place should not be on your list.

This place has a F rating with the better business bureau. Living in these apartments it is very unsafe. The security measures at the doors do not work, there have been multiple homeless people found through out the building. The elevators have been broken for months and on top of it all there are dozens of Air bnbs so you never see the same people twice. Also the latest issue is the fire alarm strobe lights going off from 10:30pm until 2:30pm. Management is useless and does not care about their tenants. Trust me you're peace of mind is not at the Block Apartments, rent literally anywhere else.

If you are looking for a "caring people management team" this is the place plus amazing departments with lots of character and "thick concrete floors". I'm a young professional girl that travel about 50% of the time, and I always fell safe and had the help and support of Emily (building manager) and specially of Marshall (leasing agent) always going the extra mile to help you and make sure things get done. I lived there for about 2 years, and what I miss the most is that they genuinely care about delivering a prime service!
The Block couldn't be in a more perfect location in downtown Indianapolis. Most places are minutes away and you can get to many places without going outside which is awesome in the winter. This building used to be a department store and it's really cool that the units are so unique with many of the original details. To live here though you have to be willing to compromise on the service. Expect to clean a lot on your own when you first move in. And if you need any fixes, just be aware that they make take the cheapest way out, or things may only be half done. But if you can live with those things, you really can't beat this location in the city. It is a really neat place.
The Block Apartments in downtown Indianapolis are a prime location for young urban professionals. The housing price is roughly $1/sqft and the property is centrally located. The building is a converted early 1900s department warehouse into modern apartment lofts. The apartment is connected to the Circle Centre mall and it only takes about a 5 minute walk from your apartment door to the mall escalators. The only drawbacks of this community is the management and the paper thin walls.
The Block Apartments are pretty great for luxury downtown living! It is right on Market street, and the State Capital is basically a the front of your door. Several great restaurants are next to the building or walking distance. You don't miss out on all the main holiday events ever or football crowds! Fourth of July is amazing, and if you are lucky enough to have a window facing Monument Circle, you pretty much have it made. The staff help you through the process of applying, and they keep in touch during that time. You can easily move in to this building because there is a back entrance where a moving truck fits and an huge elevator that is used just for you. Also, every once in a while there are building events on the 6th floor! Great, delicious food is served with really nice wine and beer, all for FREE. You get to meet all your neighbors and just a good time. And if you aren't up for meeting neighbors because of the small talk, no problem. I've gone to get food and left, and everyone is chill about it :) Oh and there is a gym open from 5pm-11pm. If I do not get a chance to run outside on the canal, which is really close by, I run inside and lift weights. The security here is why I chose this place. I moved here by myself and it is a new city, so I was nervous. However, everyone here has a "fob" to get into the building and your guests have to know your code number to use the call box (which rings your cell phone), so you can let them inside. Overall, the experience has been great and I just love how it is in the center of it all!
