What Apartments.com Is Doing to Help
At Apartments.com, our mission is to make sure everyone finds a home they love. When that safe space is lost, we’re here to help you find a new place, even if it’s only temporary.
We’re devastated watching the news and seeing tens of thousands of Los Angeles residents lose their homes, and we want to help.
With our mission in mind, we’re working with property managers in the Greater Los Angeles area to add as many listings as possible. We’re waiving the listing and application fees we charge independent owners and renters to help displaced residents find temporary housing. We're also researching availability at apartment communities in the area, and we'll be adding more of those listings at no charge to the property managers.
Renters will soon be able to filter for “offers for displaced individuals.” This section will list properties with special offers and concessions. Listings offering these types of deals will have a badge and the hashtag #HelpingCA to make them easier to spot. Search for a temporary rental on Apartments.com by filtering by short-term rentals, furnished rentals, or listings in the Los Angeles Unified School District and Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District.
Find a Place
Short-term listings
For short-term rentals, navigate to the “All Filters” button and scroll down to the “Specialty Housing” section. Select “Short-Term” and adjust the lease length.
Furnished listings
For furnished rentals, navigate to the “All Filters” button and scroll down to the “Popular Amenities” section. Select “Show All Amenities” to expand the options and select “Furnished” under the “Apartment Amenities” section.
Search by school district
If schools are at the center of your temporary housing search, search by school or school district on Apartments.com.
The two school districts in Los Angeles are Los Angeles Unified School District and Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. When you search by school district, Apartments.com will show rentals within the school district alongside blue markers that denote different schools within that school district.
Search by commute time
To find a rental that suits your commute to work or school, use our Commute Tool. Navigate to the “Options” menu on the left side of the screen and scroll down to “Travel Time.” Select “Search by Commute Time” and input your destination, transportation method, and ideal commute time to find a rental that fits your needs.
Search by drawing a boundary
Another way to search on Apartments.com is with our “Draw Boundary” tool. Navigate to the “Draw Boundary” button on the left side of the screen and trace the radius within which you want to search. This will create a curated search that only includes rentals within the boundary you draw.
Search Safely with Apartments.com
Unfortunately, scammers often view emergencies and natural disasters as an opportunity to prey on those affected. We're working hard to protect renters from fraud and price gouging. Familiarize yourself with warning signs of a rental scam, like excuses for why the property manager can’t take you on a tour of the rental or urgent requests for payment via cash or wire transfer.
Honest landlords will be empathetic about your situation and understand that temporary housing is as much of a financial commitment as it is an urgent need.
