Property Ratings at Bloom Apartments
The application costs $35/per person and they never follow up with a call. When you do end up getting a hold of someone, if they even do pick up, they'll throw different excuses as to why the application hasn't begun to process and won't want to give you your money back because of a no application refund rule, but they claimed to not have my application while also saying I hadn't paid... whether it is greed or a bad system, I wouldn't trust them to handle your rent if they can't even handle an application fee properly
It’s obvious they have not cleaned/prepped the apartments when you move in. Then when you move out they charge your for damage that was done by the previous owner. Also it smells like cigarettes/weed when you move in. I have also seen Maintenance staff drive around drinking open cans of beer and parking on peoples lawns. The staff is always new and lost my paperwork 3 times and tried to blame me for it. Avoid this place if at all possible.
I chose this apartment based on cost and distance from downtown, and it’s been everything I need! For the size and amenities, you get much more than what’s available nearby. And while there are a lot of positives for the apartment itself (free wifi, flat screen installed on the wall, tons of natural light, plenty of space), my two biggest gripes are with the complex. 1. If you’re looking at moving into any of the apartments near Allen Street or the entrance (specifically the 910-920 buildings), be prepared to hear cars rev their engines at the 4-way stop and the small stretch of road at the entrance. From dusk to dawn and into the night, you’ll be dealing with people trying to max out their RPMs on a constant basis. 2. When I toured the apartment, I asked the staff member how parking was, and he assured me that he never had a problem finding a spot. I later realized the reason he never had a problem finding a spot was because he didn’t have to find one after 5PM. If you plan on returning to your apartment after 5, you’ll be lucky to find a spot close to your building. All that to be said, I still really like this apartment. Aside from the loud cars and the lack of parking, it’s a safe spot, the on-site maintenance is quick to respond, and I’m an equal distance from everything I do.
I wish it was possible to give this place negative stars. First, the apartment that they show you is nowhere near what you get (seems to be pretty common here in Bloomington). When my roommate and I moved it, it was pretty clear that our apartment had not been cleaned at all: we found dog food on the center of our living room floor, the bathrooms were disgusting, and there were ants and toenails on the carpet in one of the bedrooms. The strip in the bathroom designed to keep water from getting between the tub and into the floor was half torn off in my bathroom and when I requested they fix it, they came and tore the whole thing off and left it like that, forcing me to request that they come again and actually fix it (they instead decided to use some form of silicone to “seal” it). There were holes in our wall from where we guessed a sound bar was mounted (which was never fixed despite our request and then they tried to charge us for the damage), the carpets in both rooms were filthy (I ended up using a carpet cleaner on my bedroom carpet and after 5+ rounds of cleaning, the water was still black) and falling apart in places.
The management is extremely poorly ran here. 1) They lied about the start date of my lease. They promised me I could start on the 7th of August but snuck the 1st into the lease. Then attempted to charge me an extra $50 for "being late" on my rent come August the 2nd. 2) When I got to get my key the people at the front office were extremely rude and condescending. The guy that answered the door literally let out a loud sigg *UGH* what do you want? As if I was intruding on his day. This was the front office and I literally had an appointment to meet them there at this time. He was extremely rude the entire time I was filling out my information to get my key. 3) When I finally got to the apartment you could tell it had not been cleaned. The molding on the bathtub was coming off. There was mold in the dishwasher and the walls and floor were dirty. The doors are stained the appliances are ancient. The Dryer wasn't even correctly attached and one week in the hose came out of the back of the wall. 4) Finally on week 2 of being here my AC unit went out for no reason. It was 90 degrees out and I went two days without anyone coming out to check on my unit. I put a request in online and called the office twice. Do yourself a favor and try to find anywhere else.
I lived there for 2 years with my wife. We both loved the location and the tenants around us were calm. As a young couple with no high demands we were satisfied with our stay. I think a lot of resident perspective is driven by what unit you decide to live in. Living in an upper floor unit will lead to less noise and more light, naturally. Pros - - rent at the time was good rate compared to other places. - clean and relatively newer facilities, it's a younger community with a lot of upper class or graduate students - the Bloom gym is enough for one to avoid a gym membership - Close to the B-line and within 15 min. drive to campus. Kroger is less than 2 miles down the road. Less than 5 mins. to I-69. - vaulted ceilings are a must if you want to feel you live in a spacious place. - Quiet neighborhood. I cannot complain about actual unit noise as our neighbors were not loud; we had little issues. - Maintenance has been very friendly and are considerate to owners' pets. - in unit washers were replaced which means better efficiency. - nice areas to take walks around Cons - - Passive repairs - we had A/C unit problems that were never fully resolved until after we moved out. We would have recommended more proactive repairs on this when we were a resident. - Beware that the park between Bloom North & South has a tick infestation. My wife and I would take walks through the wooded part of the park, but we ceased doing so when our shoes were covered in little ticks after one walk. There is a lot of deer that come through the area so naturally there would be an uptick in ticks. - Near the park there has been known taxi and suspicious activity. It is a very safe location but activity like this does make one suspicious. I would advise the management team to please reiterate to the police to monitor the neighborhood.
I BEG OF YOU TO GO ELSEWHERE!!! They pray upon the young adults that are naive. They have a combined application/lease signing that is cleverly designed to entrap you by allowing them to make changes and extra demands AFTER SIGNING, while you have no options. Please… please… understand this is not how the normal property application and lease signing is done. Then shortly before your scheduled move in date they inform the young adults they need to make two months’ rent deposit because their income is not strong enough. Never expect to get close to the same or accurate information from any employee. And don’t waste your time asking for management, they tell you they can schedule it a few days down the road. I would not recommend this property to my worst enemy.
Bloom has no intention of providing any level of customer service. Once they have you in a contract, there is no incentive for them to provide a modicum of service. I requested that they give me a call before coming to my apartment to perform some maintenance so I could come home and keep my dog from bothering them, and it was like I asked them to shoot someone. I have never been met with such resistance for such a simple request. I called, my boyfriend called, I emailed and we were met with rudeness and inflexibility. Ultimately, I was doing this for their benefit, I don't many dogs that like it when strangers show up in their home. I would never recommend this complex to anyone, this is the most recent of the many complaints I have with them. They don't allow residents to break contract with the lease, so we are stuck. Maybe death will come and put us out of our misery.
This has been a great apartment for me! All of the staff (front desk and the maintenance people)have been helpful and I love the area. It is pet friendly (there is a dog park on site) and if you don't have a car, you can still get around; they have their own shuttle that takes you to the IU campus and it is also located on the city bus line. It's near quite a few restaurants, grocery stores, and a few department stores. I like the layout of the one bedroom apartments and this is one of the few apartments in town that includes cable and internet. I would highly recommend this place for someone who wants a really nice place that is not so close to the constant bustle of the IU campus.
My apartment is everything I wanted! It's spacious, in a really good community, clean, friendly staffs. I absolutely love having my washer and dryer in my unit!
This is a perfect apartment complex for a big college town. Bloom Apartments are modern, trendy, and affordable for someone who is in classes a lot. Bloom apartments has an amazing staff and they keep up with the maintenance in the apartment in a timely manner. Also they have a full equip gym and an inside pool for when is gets chilly in the midwest. I would recommend Bloom Apartments to anyone since it is affordable and spacious with friendly staff!
This is a great apartment for young professionals and graduate students. Close enough to downtown yet far enough away from the typical college party crowds that tend to be rather noisy. Great quality for how affordable the complex is. Maintenance is timely but careless, on two separate occasions (once to my roommate and once to another tenant) they were landscaping and cracked a windshield and dented a front bumper. Management asked for a report and then never followed through with anything, except for saying they are not responsible; lots of quick fixes but not quality decisions. Nice apartment if you don't have anything go wrong or don't have to deal with management.
Bloom is a great community and I have really loved calling this place home! I unfortunately had to leave because I wanted to be closer to school, but I definitely recommend Bloom to anyone. It's a great price for everything you get, and the staff is always friendly and helpful!
