Property Ratings at Boulevard View
- First it still close to bus stops, restaurants, and a grocery store so that is fine still. The apartment itself has some problems because of age, but not awful for the price. The maintenance team was nice and overall responsive, but sometimes i would need to put a work order in multiple times. - My main critique is of the management. The lease for our second year automatically renewed, and when we emailed to ask to take off parking since they changed it from free to $70 a month, they declined our request, and at some point said we didn’t have to park there but still would need to pay. We found in the lease that they had given the rent increase notice later than they needed to, so we told them this. They refused to accept what was in the lease until we got a lawyer involved. - Next, wifi comes with the apartment and when it kept going out, they said that no one else complained so it must be something with us, and did not do anything further. - Lastly, my partner lost his keys in March and when he told them, they demanded $2050 for key replacements before they would replace anything and give a copy of keys in the meantime. After my partner paid them after confirming they would give the receipt and any cash back (it should not cost that much for replacements), they cashed the check and have yet to install anything and provide any receipt. When he checked in, they said that some unspecific part is on back order until the summer. - I’m not expecting to get any of my security deposit back at all as they responded to my email about getting my security deposit back with “this is a joke right? What security deposit?” Even though we paid $250 good faith security deposit and then an extra $650 security deposit.
I regretted selecting this apartment soon after moving there in 2018. I read all the bad reviews but was ultimately persuaded by the square footage for the price, wood flooring and natural light, parking, neighborhood, and assurance that it was under new management. I now believe that new management did not mean new ownership or new culture of treatment towards tenants. Here are a few of my experiences while living at 2374 Euclid Heights Blvd: -MICE. I noticed mouse droppings in a lower drawer in the kitchen where I kept my dog's food. I realized that when I took my dog for walks, there would be less food in his bowl when we returned from a walk. I moved all dog food to above the dryer to try to do my part to keep them away. Soon, there was a dead mouse in a mouse trap. I then saw a mouse crossing through my [very clean] kitchen. Not once, but three times! I contacted management early in this discovery, and their solution was to pack steel wool into an open corner in my apartment. A few months later I overheard other residents on my floor asking each other if they have trouble with mice... -Do you remember the beginning of COVID-19 shutdowns-- when students left campuses to move home, and on the news almost every evening were stories about kind landlords? I received an email from management that I perceived as them checking-in on which tenants were still living there before hosting apartment viewings, and I replied accordingly, with no subsequent response from management. It turned out that they understood my email as my termination. When I clarified with them that I still planned to terminate at the end of July (which was explicit in my termination letter earlier sent), this is the response I received: "In the future, I would suggest you honor your commitments with your landlord. The owner does not appreciate your wasting his time..." -I did not find the building to be secure. I do not want to provide too much detail here for the safety of current tenants. -The garage crumbled. As of June 2020, the door frame to the garage was hardly attached. The rear staircase crumbled of rust. -Inside, the walls and doors to the hallway allow a great deal of sound to pass through. You can hear phone calls from a room across the hall and the rooms adjacent. Smell also passes right through. You can know what your neighbors are cooking. NOTE: I am aware that other tenants received communication from management to write a positive review in return for a discount.
This pet-friendly apartment is within walking distance of Case Western. Most of the residents are grad or medical students, just to be aware of your neighbors. The aparment itself is within walking distance of a grocery store, bank, and other amenities, which is another plus. The apartment itself is relatively spacious for the rent. They do offer a furnished option for grad and medical students for an additional $150 per month. Some units have in-suite washer and dryer, but there is a laundry room on-site as well. The walls are a bit thin, and the building itself is pretty old. The garage spaces are fairly small, but at least it's underground and covered. The landlord can be a bit harsh, but the leasing manager, Stephen, is great to work with. You don't really interact too much with the landlord outside of arriving and putting in maintenance requests. Overall, a good apartment near Case Western.
