Property Ratings at Briar Manor
Applied and wanted to pay a years rent up front. Was rejected with a 735 credit score, due to 'lack of history'. The office manager was extremely rude. Would give negative stars if possible.
First off, before my review, it's somehow rated 4 stars on this site, even though it has two 1-star ratings, one 2-star rating, and one 4-star rating, not sure how that was averaged, but here's another 1 star review: I'm giving it one star. so many things wrong here. I agree with the other 1 and 2 star reviews. I've had all kinds of general issues. I actually avoid going into the office, for fear of having to talk to them. Issues: we only have two washers and dryers to service 24 apartments- and one of our washers has been broken for over 4 months! When i had told them a day or two after it had happened, I was basically scolded for even reporting the issue, which has happened every time i report an issue, hence why i avoid the now. There are big dogs everywhere. The policy states only under 30 lbs dogs are allowed, however there are many that are much larger. They allow 'service dogs', but i find it hard to believe all these dogs are service animals. And now that it's spring, just today I'm finding dog poop in the lawn already, so there's that. and there has been dog poop in the basement all winter. ...it just doesn't end. trash/bikes/paint all through the hallways, people's junk all over the place in the basement, insulation hanging from basement. my apartment and hallways usually smell bad too. Everything I do to clean mine is in vein. three words: live somewhere else. My move out date can't come soon enough.
I had numerous bad experiences with the staff and the units themselves are sub-par and inferior to everywhere I have lived, in my opinion
Been living here for a year, our lease is up for renew and not a chance am I renewing it with them. Maintenance takes forever to get anything done. Ladies in the office have no idea what they’re talking about, one says one thing then the next says the opposite, and are very rude. Hallways always a mess in buildings. Parking lot is full of pot holes. Pool always freezing and never clean even on 90 degree days. Figured for the amount of rent we pay and it being in Brighton it would have been better, got better service and living space in a crappy complex then this.
TL/DR: The apartment is nice. The rent is ok. The neighbors are quite and keep to themselves. The management/office staff treats you like garbage. -There are two pairs of washer and dryers in our building. I lost lots of money to them. The office started to brush me off when I complained and stopped opening work orders. Other tenants say they have been broken for two years. -I noticed two smoke detectors were past the manufacturer life span. I called the office to request two new smoke detectors. Finally they got that I wasn't asking for 9Vs but new detectors. They said between tenants if the smoke detectors needed replacement they would have done it. We had only been there for about 6 months and the units were 13 years old. I should not have had to fight this hard to get required life safety devices replaced. -The complex provides a storage unit in the basement of the building. The units are 2" x 4" boards and chicken wire. Someone broke into our unit by pushing the chicken wire through the staples on the door. The complex won't reimburse us for the theft. I put in a work order to repair the unit. We came home the next day to our unit still being broken and the work order has been closed as a "won't do". I called the next morning. The woman who handles these issues was out and there is no one else who can handle these. She called that evening. She said she’d talk with the maintenance manager and call me back. I did not get another call nor was the unit fixed. I still have not received a call about this and it’s been several weeks now. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The only good dealing I had with the complex management so you don't think I am simply telling you the bad only. -They installed a programmable thermostat that we bought in place of their non-programmable one.
I have lived here on and off for 9 years. I have been through the management changes and I definitely see the changes (for the better). The hallways in the buildings are being updated with new carpeting and paint. They have put new roofs on the buildings. They are very nice when I call for any complaints or maintenance concerns. They are quick with repairing any maintenance issues. I love it here and don't plan on moving out again. (The only reason why I moved out the first time was because I got married and we bought a house. That has since changed). I would recommend Briar Manor to anyone who loves the Brighton area and likes a quiet place to live.
