Property Ratings at Brick Towne at Johnston
Be sure to call ahead before submitting an application and paying the fee to verify availability. The 3rd party vendor they use listed 2 available units and only after paying the fee did I learn that there was no availability. The fee is non-refundable; seems a bit unscrupulous to list units and then send an email an hour after collecting the fee that there are no units available.
The buildings are cheap. They leak in the rain, the floors aren't level, the ceiling and walls are flimsy and a middle unit tenant can hear people climbing the stairs on the ends of the building. Management is tough to get a hold of and doesn't respond to voicemail and email.
Beautiful apartment and pool! The gym is huge for an apartment gym. The locker system for packages is neat. Staff is quick to respond and extremely friendly. I have no complaints!! Favorite apartment that I've ever lived in!
Thought this place looked very nice when we found it. We moved into our unit brand new. We quickly learned that while the units looked very nice, they were cheaply built (which sucks because they cost nearly 1k for a one bed one bath). We had problems with the dishwasher, dryer, island, and other more minor issues. When requests were put in to fix these issues, the only one that was fixed in a timely manner was the dryer, which is good I guess. Another major issue here, which is listed in nearly every review, is that dog waste is rarely cleaned up. The waste stations are almost never stocked with bags either. Compounding that problem is that tenants are not forced to pick up dog waste. You can tell which units have dogs, because in half of them the small patch of grass is full of waste. The area by the clubhouse and pool is full of dog waste. After the snow melted during the winter, the smell was terrible and you couldn't walk more than a couple feet without seeing piles of poop. When we moved in the pond out front looked good, but by the time we moved out it was full of trash and algae. The trash cans are always full and there is not near enough space in them, which results in trash just being thrown on the ground in the space provided. They posted signs saying throw trash in the actual dumpster, which sounded good. However, there is not near enough dumpsters to hold all the trash, furniture, tv's, etc. that were being thrown away on move in/out day. Also, I can't stress this enough, SPIDERS. I didn't realize that we would be living with Spiderman in our unit. I noticed countless spiders in our unit. Most were small, but there were a couple that made me wonder if I should be worried if the Green Goblin was living next door. I suppose that the only silver lining here is that the staff was very friendly for the most part. Oh, and the pool was nice when it was actually open.
This property is poorly managed. It’s a very dirty property the dog waste stations are constantly full and never get changed. The dumpsters are always horrid. There is constantly stuff around the housing for them as well as stuff just thrown into the area not the dumpster. I would never recommend living here to anyone.
I will be glad when my year lease is up at this complex. It is poorly run by a bunch of 20 year olds. Dog waste bags are an eye sore. Just like everyone else has said on this site, renters are throwing the bags on the ground because the plastic trash cans are over flowing with poop bags and the workers seem to think they don't need changed. You have to keep following up with the club house to see if a maintenance request will ever be completed. If you are looking for a place to live, skip this place. I wish I could post pictures of all of the issues in this complex.
BEWARE! I applied for a 2B/2B ($50.00 app fee “Apt #6480-102” Rent Cafe) My application was approved by Tiffani, assistant manger. However, she failed to mention via phone conversation or email communication that there were no 2/2 units available! “Wait listed” without my knowledge.
Pond - The pond up front along Merle Hay Rd is an eyesore. Last year, there was a small fountain that circulated the water around but this year 2021, algae is forming along the sides of the pond and trash is accumulating. The property management team needs to spend about 3 hours or more picking up trash that is around the pond and close to the dirt line of the pond. This is a major eyesore! Cleaning Team - The cleaning crew that comes out each Saturday or Sunday does a miserable job. They only vacuum in front of each door of each unit and not the entire hallways. I have noticed trash that people leave behind on top of the some of the fire extinguisher boxes that have been sitting around for weeks, none of it gets thrown away, another eyesore for people who might want to move into this complex, or for those who live here. The stairwells need to be mopped with bleach and cleaning supplies. I have seen pet pee on a couple stairs when it is wet and some of the stairwells smell like pee. The buildings needs more cleaning and up keep by the property management team and cleaning company. Lights - I have noticed that a lot of light builds are burned out by the garages on the north side of buildings 6460 and 6490 and west side of 6430. Some lights builds are out right outside of residents doors that go out into the hallway, some of those lights are in building 6460. Purchase LED lights. Trash Dumpsters - These areas of the complex are a major eyesore. The property management team needs to send out more emails advising residents the importance of placing all trash inside the dumpsters. The dumpster on the west side of building 6480 has large heavy plastic lids that are hard to open to place trash in. The property management team needs to hire some people to clean up litter in the complex that is scattered around because of the trash that does not get into the dumpster. The residents at this complex should be ashamed of themselves, if you are reading this, get your crap together people. Pet Waste Receptacles - Why install new pet waste receptacles and not furnish plenty of pet waste bags to be used. I have walked past numerous new pet waste receptacles and they are missing the pet waste bags. The one on the west side of building 6460 and 6440 have been missing bags for over one month. The plastic trash cans that are attached to the poles don't get emptied enough, maybe once a month and some cans are over flowing and smell horrible when you walk past them.
I love it. Staff is amazing, from the management to maintenance. They email and text regularly about things we need to know. They constantly are improving the community as they go. They're 100% pet friendly too which is awesome. My unit is brand new so it had some small growing pains. My microwave light kept burning out fast so they replaced the whole microwave. The internet that is included is 20mb download speed which is slow if you stream stuff regularly but only if you aren't by yourself. Can easily upgrade the speed for pretty cheap.
This property could have so much potential! The Property Manager at Brick Towne needs to pay attention to how many dogs are allowed in a unit. I counted 8 puppies over on the 1st floor of the new building on the west wing of a two bedroom. I walked by and could hear the puppies whinning. A picture has been posted on the complexes site. Is the Property Managment collecting a fee for every dog the resident has? Also, there needs to be a trash can inside the area where you groom your pets. I have walked by this area and looked inside the window and noticed the same trash piled up without trash cans furnished to the residents to throw away items. If these type of aminaties are going to furnished to the residents, the Property Manager eneeds to hire someone to clean up these areas. The trash receptacle areas look horrible with furniture that is left outside the trash dumpsterss not being picked up by the trash company. Almost each area has old bed mattresses that are not being thrown away properly. The Property Manager at this location needs to send out a communication to the residents of the expectations of what can be placed in the trash bins and what can not. I took it upon myself to put some old furniture into the trash bins because of someone laziness of not putting the items in the trash bins. Get this addressed ASAP! When is the landscaping going to be replaced? Majority of the trees and bushes are dead! This does not bring curb appeal to the complex. The lawn mowing company does a horrible job at mowing. They do hit and miss jobs throughout the complex leaving grass standing around curb lines and some of the brick walls where the mail boxes are located, especially where building 6460 is located. This complex could have plenty of potential but it seems that the people running this complex lack ideas and the know how.
