Old Town sits across from Washington DC, along the Potomac River in Alexandria. Founded in 1749, the old charm of the neighborhood lives on in converted Colonial-era buildings which now house modern conveniences. Along Old Town’s cobblestone streets, you’ll discover an array of independent boutiques, artisan shops, wine bars, and farm-to-fork restaurants.
The farmers market in Market Square is your place for fresh cut flowers, hand-dipped candles, and made-from-scratch baked goods. The plaza is more than 250 years old - George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate was a regular vendor back in the day!
King Street is not only dotted with eateries and shops, but also nightlife and live jazz! The iconic Gadsby’s Tavern on North Royal Street fed many early presidents and continues to run as a restaurant - but also as a museum! King Street and Waterfront Parks provide residents recreational and boating opportunities along the river.

Property Ratings at Bridgeyard
Nobody showed up to fix the issue. I do not have hot water in my shower, some time is a little warm and some time is cold, never hot. Every time I try to take a shower I freeze. Since I moved in last week I haven’t been able to take a shower. Please fix this issue ASAP.
Location is great being close to old town. but it is an old building that has lots of maintenance issues including bug problems. There is also no concierge desk so don't expect that here.

Bridgeyard is a good place to call home for me and my daughter close to a decade now. I am personally thankful we have Christine as our general manager who goes out of her way to get things done. She is an amazing caring person. My issue at Bridgyard is the rent increase for an old building with no washer drying in the unit and old kitchen and bathroom. The rent increase and the place does not match. But we have a caring community, clean lobby, clean grounds, clean trash area. We have a nice pool and hopefully soon we will have new grills that our general manager Christine has gone out of her way to get for us. I am happy living at Bridgeyard.

Bridgeyard is a nice apartment complex, but there are things that make it difficult for example the parking lot is dangerous at night especially for females there should be some type of safety there. The washing machines constantly breaking down and they’re just inconvenient. Other than that it’s close to A LOT of things.

Bridgeyard is a fun yet quiet community. Very versatile. It’s clean a lot of laundry facilities so no worries there. Honestly I love it.

This place is DISGUSTING! DO NOT LIVE HERE. The leasing staff will never help you or even answer your emails. The building is infested with roaches. They lie about amenities. We consistently don’t even have running water. The elevators don’t work. No one keeps up with the building. Your apartment is either freezing or burning hot and they won’t do anything about it. There is no functional laundry room and zero up keep with the gym. The pool has weird hours so you essentially can never go unless you don’t have a job. And the entire staff acts like it’s your problem or they just don’t answer you.

If you value location you will love it here. If amenities and value for cost are your main concerns I would look elsewhere. Pet friendly and the halls often smell like wet dog.

Dear Resident, Thank you for taking the time to leave us your review. We appreciate you. Have a wonderful day! Sincerely, Your Bridgeyard Team
I highly DONOT recommend moving here. It's cheap for a reason! First, they make you pay for light bulb replacement which is fine but they only take cashier checks or personal checks for payment (most people do not have) They say the can add it to your rent bill but they won't fix it until rent is due for the following month. So if you already paid your rent and the light goes out in the kitchen or anywhere after you paid the rent you have to either pay for a book of checks or purchase a cashier check to get it fixed right away or wait almost month for them to fix it! Second the elevator are constantly out of order and makes a loud extremyly annoying beeping sound when they are out of order. Peole have gotten stuck on them on several occasions. And no I'm not exaggerating! Third, the shared laundry facility are always filthy! They are infested with roaches, mold from all of the water that leaks from the machines on the floors, and the machines are constantly out of order but keep going up in price. Your better off going to a laundry matt in the area which are always more cleaer and sanitary than Bridgeyard Facilities, and this is in both buildings! The have switched to new management and I thought these issues would possibly get better but it's just gotten even worse. I wish I had never renewed my lease!

Avoid these apartments. Roach infested. Elevators intermittently broken. Urine in the stairwells (I really hope it's canine and not human). Leaks in the laundry room and washing machines/dryers frequently out of service. Paint peeling off the walls when I moved into my apartment. This place is not worth the rent.

Dear Resident We are very happy we can provide you with a positive experience! Have a great day!
Location and price are the only things that make this apartment an attractive living option. Smoking and pot use within the building makes it impossible to occupy amenity areas or hallways most of the time. There are barking dogs at all hours of the night. Trash cans overflow on the weekends. Pest control is non-existent (expect to find roaches in your apartment and in the community spaces even if you clean regularly and don’t leave food out). Maintenance is poor and unresponsive. Office staff is professional and pleasant, but understaffed and unable to resolve most issues at the community level. Overall, there are better options in the area if you’re able to spend an extra $100 a month.

Upon move-in, my new apartment was scheduled oto have the tub reglazed despite checking over the time of move-in with staff. This led to all of my belongings being covered in a thick white dust. The apartment was not cleaned and had visible food particles and debris throughout and in need of serious repairs including but not limited to: a hole in the wall, broken oven door, decayed wood under the sink, and a loose bathroom vanity. I had to visit the leasing office at least five times, sometimes in tears, to have them address these issues.
Quiet. Attentive in house maintenance. Elevators been replacing. Grounds well maintained. Poor security.

Besides persistent maintenance issues, I would recommend Bridgeyard for the location and price.
I've lived here for 3 years and the pool has never been opened once, yet they continue to falsely advertise it and lie to current and potential residents saying it will open "soon." They do not communicate with us AT ALL about the status of it. I've had to call the city of Alexandria to get any updates. I would not have resigned here twice knowing the pool wouldn't open. They won't reduce rent or credit us for pool memberships, because it's a "gifted amenity." So basically they lie to us saying we'll have a pool to convince us to live here and then tell us we can't have pool access as part of our rent/agreement. Some other issues: the laundry room breaks all the time and management doesn't do anything, they just tell you to contact the company. The parking lot is subject to crime but they won't install cameras and would rather tow residents and our guests. The gym desperately needs to be updated but instead they wasted money to update the leasing office. Updating the leasing office took away one of our few and favorite amenities - there used to be a great convenience store on site but they made it into the leasing office. I didn't have heat my first winter here and they wouldn't do anything. This past winter, I didn't have consistent hot water for a couple of months and they didn't fix it until I threatened legal action. Great location, but if you can afford it just go to the Thornton for the same location and way better living conditions and amenities. Hopefully another company can take it over or something. Laramar managing this location is such a waste of a property with so much potential.

Third summer with no swimming pool, one of the chief amenities that people move here for. The only apartment complex with a pool that has used COVID and other excuses to be closed for three summers. Every other apartment complex in the area was closed in 2020 but reopened in 2021. They keep promising to reopen the pool "soon" after fixing some issues but no work has happened in the past month. Communal laundry has been a failure for years. They blame the provider CSC for the dismal laundry situation but it’s Bridgeyard’s fault for continuing the CSC contract after years of terrible service. Routinely half the machines are OOC - washing machines filled with dirty smelly water, dryers that don’t dry. CSC does not respond to my requests for refunds or service. This is truly inexcusable. No security. Basement doors routinely propped open 24/7. Fake security cameras aren’t monitored - theft of packages inside the building and automobile vandalism in the parking lot are routine. The on-site management staff and maintenance team are all wonderful human beings who do their best. They aren’t the problem. Laramar, the property management company, is the problem. They take our rent but do not spend the money to maintain the building and amenities to make them usable, but they are charging rent increases!

If you're a young person who doesn't want to need a car and doesn't have a ton of money, this place is fine for like a year. I've lived here for a while now and am going to give the most honest review that I can. Bugs - If you don't like roaches, you won't like it here. The building is has a lot of them as a product of poor upkeep and being right on the water. The small ones will get into your apartment if you don't properly treat it (don't bother asking maintenance to come treat your apartment, they put some glue in your cabinets and that's it). Honestly, this is the worst thing about this place is the general filth of the actual building. Management - The people who work at the leasing desk are incredibly kind (as are the maintenance people), but management itself is difficult to get in contact with. I recently called about one of the elevators being broken and wanted an 'Out of Order' sign on the door. They said 'no need.' Okay, sure. Amenities - In all the time I've lived here, the pool hasn't been open and most of the amenities have been shut down. No, the amenity fee wasn't refunded. Laundry - The laundry machines are usually broken or filthy. There aren't many, so I have to do my laundry extremely early in the morning in order to actually get a machine. And yes, you have to pay for laundry. Smells - The hallways smell awful most days. Usually they smell like weed or garbage. Noise - It's quiet for the most part, so if you aren't bothered by hearing the occasional door slamming or neighbors talking, it isn't too too bad. That being said, I've had to listen to more than one neighbor having a screaming match across the hall, so...take from that what you will. Utilities - It's super convenient that all utilities are a flat fee. You don't really have to worry about electricity, AC, water, gas, etc. because it's included, which is really helpful for those on a budget. Location - Amazing location. If you don't want to have a car, there's so much within walking distance. Restaurants, bars, shops, and the metro are all very close. They have very high-quality doctors and vets nearby, along with some pet-friendly parks. Summary: Again, I wouldn't recommend this place if you can afford anywhere else. But it's been decent to live in for the time I've lived here. I'm excited to be moving on, but overall this isn't the best place to live if you have other options or have a larger family.
As a current resident, please take my advice of finding literally ANY other apartment complex to live in. Bridgeyard is a nightmare. Elevators are always broken, almost everything in the building is half-broken. Low-quality amenities and terrible building upkeep. They LOVE to tow residents as the biggest middle finger of their awful living experience. I chose to live here because of the low cost, but would pay anything to get out of this lease and this disgusting building.

Thank you for your review. If you could please visit our office we would like to discuss the issues you've been experiencing and work towards a resolution. We look forward to connecting with you soon.
Bridgeyard management did not handle the mold issue in my apartment. I made several repeated maintenance requests following repair of a dishwasher leak that uncovered mold. It is likely the mold was pre-existing since the mold continued on two walls behind the kitchen cabinets. Maintenance "fixed" the mold by painting over the visible spots, without actually removing any of the contaminated material. The building manager did not respond in a timely manner to my emails and phone calls (for over a month) with promises to investigate, remediate, and elevate to corporate as I could not live in the unit due to health and safety concerns. I contacted the corporate number multiple times and they never responded. I believe there is no way to get these type of issues resolved if you live at Bridgeyard or another Laramar property. If you plan to move in here, please request a mold investigation.

Thank you for taking the time to write this candid review. Our team strives to make our community as comfortable as we can for our residents, and we apologize that your experience has contradicted this. Given the opportunity, we’d like another chance to discuss each of these points with you in person. Would you please contact our office so that we may speak further about these concerns?
I made an appointment to tour a unit in person a couple days ahead of time as I was driving from over 7 hours away to look at apartments. I lined up all of my viewings for Saturday, with the exception of the Bridgeyard as they couldn't fit me in that day. They told me they could give me a tour on Sunday right when the office opened at noon. I made the appointment with Joseph and said I would see him then. I paid $120 to stay an additional night at my hotel so that I could view the apartment on Sunday. I arrived 5 minutes before noon and waited patiently until 12:20 PM and no one showed up. No one was answering the phone for the leasing office and so I left a message. I stood with another prospective couple in the pouring rain and they said they hadn't heard the status of their application for over a week and the leasing agency would not return their calls. A new tenant of the building walked by and told us that the leasing office is working remotely and isn't giving in person tours. At this point, I decided to cut my losses and acknowledge that I wasted $120 to stay at a hotel for an additional night, only to walk away without having viewed anything. Now, more than 24 hours after my scheduled appointment time, no one has reached out to return my call or provide any explanation as to why no one showed up. If this is how the treat prospective tenants, just IMAGINE how they treat the people who already live there. I obviously will NOT be renting with them now or in the future due to their unprofessional conduct and disrespect for people's time and money.

I rarely post online review, let alone ones deserving of 5 stars-- but Bridgeyard's sterling standard of excellence demands it. I have been residing her for the past 15 months and have greatly enjoyed my time here. The maintenance staff is professional, responsive, and thorough. The office staff is THE best I have ever dealt with in my 8 years of moving around Northern VA. They are courteous, considerate, and are dedicated to their residents. Office response to any issues is handled swiftly and thoroughly. Had I not been moving due to work reasons, I would absolutely re-sign with the Bridgeyard Team. I highly suggest anyone looking for great living in Old Town Alexandria for a great price and great management lease with them.

Hello! Thanks so much for the great review! We strive to be a wonderful place to call home, and appreciate your residency!
If I could give Bridgeyard 0 stars I would. I am not the first person to say that. I have been very happy living here for the past two years & my opinion has changed just as dramatically as the constant parking policy changes. First of all, when the policies change, not everyone is notified. AND THE LEASING OFFICE HAS ADMITTED THIS. How do you expect to enforce a policy without notification? It is entirely unprofessional and disrespectful to the residents who are paying too much money to live here. My sister visited me on short notice last weekend when the wind storm hit. She was en route to my parents' home, but stopped here because the roads were getting dangerous. The leasing office has apparently decided that SOME, NOT ALL, visitor spots require a visitors parking permit to park here. She got in from the storm at 9pm and parked her car in a visitor spot that required a pass because all of the visitor spots that do not require a pass were full already. Her car was towed during the storm when the city of Alexandria recommended everyone who could stay off the streets, do so. It is infuriating that in an emergency situation, my sister had to pay over $200 to retrieve her car from the towing company out in the boonies when she was parked in a spot clearly marked for visitors. I was not made aware of this change until we went to the leasing office to figure out where her car was towed. And the leasing office told me they KNOW FOR A FACT that the notifications are not going to everyone. This is completely unacceptable and unprofessional on several levels. If this is not enough to convince you not to live here, you should hear the story about how MY OWN CAR WAS TOWED OVER NIGHT HERE LAST NIGHT. MY OWN CAR. AT HOME. WHERE I PAY TO LIVE. AND HAVE A STICKER ON MY CAR. It could not be more inconvenient to live here. I watched someone in the leasing office draft an email to the manager about my complaint when my sister was towed last weekend. I have not heard anything from them. I have drafted emails myself and still have not heard back. I work a job that requires long hours and I can't always get home in time to visit the leasing office. Could this leasing office be anymore incompetent, unprofessional, inconvenient, and careless? I will never live here again. I may even break my lease to leave. It would be cheaper than paying for my own car to be towed all of the time!!!!
I’m tenant here , elevators are not working starting 3 weeks ago till now , no one cares Staffs are changing weekly Here no one cares about tenant’s concerns
This is such a pitty that this gem (the building and its location and view) is being managed by laramar apartments company. They have the least sense of responsibility and your maintenance tickets stay there in their system for ever! Unless it is a quick fix, you have to call a thousand time and be the meanest to them to force them to do something. Every two weeks the associates leave the company and you hear new people on the phone that don't know anything about your work orders and promise to follow up your ticket and two weeks later they have left again. The elevators have been broken for a month now and we only have received a notice, the office is completely silent about them and when they are going to be fixed. So people from 8 stories of the building use only one elevator (plus a freight elevator which is super slow or someone is having a move). People tease them by hanging signs on the elevators and saying "you have filled up the apartments, why aren't you responsible for the elevator repair", still the management remains silent!!! They show you the gym the first day you visit the amenities but it's when you come in that you realize all the treadmills and ellipticals are broken and hazardous to use. The treadmill gives you a static shock and I have asked for repair two months ago, guess what, they only say next week someone is going to pass by and have a look. When we moved in, they just gave us a key and said goodbye! We had to learn how to operate the freight elevator ourselves or even find our appartment. We even had to find out where the building entrance is!!! My car get towed the first week because they didn't give me a parking permit sticker and just gave me a guest pass!(they later waived the fee but MY CAR GOT TOWED FROM MY OWN PARKING). They rent out all the good parking lots and they don't have a sign on guest parkings. You have to come downstairs everytime to show your guests where to park to avoid being towed! You literally are out of Amazon's (or all other delivery systems) service area. Because they don't allow package drop off. They have a package room which is only open on working hours. So if you are heading out to work before 9 and coming back after 6 say goodbye to your package because it is shipped back to the sender! I have to go to an Amazon locker everytime!
Move out experience was horrible, we were nickled and dimed out of over $1,000 dollars. David is great, but management is parasitical. Would give 0 stars if I could.
Oh Bridgeyard.... You have turned me into an online reviewer. But here goes. Moved in here in November of 2016 via a two month rent free special. From day one my neighbors dog barked frequently after 10pm and before 5 am. Took the office more than 5 months to resolve. Next, as numerous reviews have correctly noted, the elevators break frequently. Since moving in and including tonight, I've seen maybe 8 elevator malfunctions. So prepare for at least monthly elevator defects when selecting a floor. Defects can last a week or more. Third, the units are cooled with wall units and heated commonly so you have very little control over the temperature in individual units. And my air unit has shut down twice in two months. Both times on a weekend day which is unfortunate as no after hours maintenance exists. Fourth, some miscellaneous things. Staff always changes. Homeless people occasionally sleep in lobby. If you ever get upset with office staff over their incompetence, expect to never have your emails returned. Doors rarely latch on backside of building 1204. You WILL NOT get a parking space if you return home after 11 pm unless you pay $50 to $100 per month to reserve one. Staff does not live here so no one experiences the realities. Rent in the same neighborhood for similar pricing so look at all the options first.
I first moved to Bridgeyard in August of 2016. I've lived here for a little over a year. The good: The location is good. Near some good trails, close to Old Town. The bad: Overpriced apartment made to look nice at first but you'll quickly notice how bad things are the longer you stay. There is a constant pest problem. I'm not just talking about your normal flies and ants but HUGE cockroaches will scurry around your apartment. Rent also will be increased by a large margin whenever your lease ends so don't plan on staying unless you have a bottomless wallet. Dog stations put around the complex are not maintained. Many weeks the dog waste has been overflowing onto the ground. Not only that but they are rarely filled with bags so people in the building have resorted to just letting their dog go on the grass and not cleaning it up. Parking lot is absolutely full. The management's response is to offer "reserved parking" at 100$ extra a month. The lease promises free on-site parking but this is useless if you get out of work later than 6:00 and the entire lot is full. They have more residents in the building than there is available parking. There are also missing fire lane signs in fire lanes resulting in the complex calling a towing service on you if you park in these unmarked fire lanes. Not only are they too incompetent to put a sign up near a fire lane but, knowing you are a resident and easily being able to access your phone number and call you to let you know to move your car, they instead call a towing service on you. The towing service is 20 minutes away or longer depending on traffic. They will not reimburse your cost and will not answer your emails or give you any other explanation. Elevators are broken 80% of the time. They will either not function entirely or you run the risk of getting stuck in one of them for an hour or more. This has happened to me on multiple occasions. If you want to take the stairs instead be prepared for the strongest smell of urine you have ever dealt with in your life. The doors slam in every single apartment. This can be heard from every single apartment. Constantly. Conclusion: My lease ends in October and I cannot wait to get out of here. There are far better places to live in the area with better amenities and more competent management. Most people in the buildings that I have talked to feel the same way I do, these positive reviews are most likely left by the management company.
After living for a year in a brand new amenity filled building in Potomac Yard, I chose to relocate to Bridgeyard -- which is an older community but with many recent updates. The fact is, you can't beat the location and I wanted to live in a building that felt like a home rather than a glossy dormitory. The best parts: -- Restaurants and some shops (hardware, William Sonoma etc) are literally a block away and there is an on-property convenience store -- Directly on the Mt. Vernon Trail with a path across the Wilson Bridge to National Harbor and the beautiful Belle Haven Marina in the other direction. -- The view of the Potomac from the property is spectacular and the pool may be older but it is immaculately maintained. -- The Management Staff has been excellent; always friendly and helpful. I knew I made the right move in just my first couple of interactions with them following my move into this apartment. -- The maintenance staff has been up in my apartment the moment I've posted an issue and fixed items, such as my chirping smoke detector, immediately. -- My fellow residents (99%) have been very friendly and it feels like a real neighborhood -- especially when compared to my previous apartment community in Potomac Yard. Since I've been here, the new property manager has been working to add conveniences such as assigned parking spaces (which are optional) -- although I never had trouble finding parking, I chose to lease an assigned space just to make things easier and it has! I know they are sprucing up the grounds which require even more attention since Bridgeyard is such a pet-friendly spot. I wouldn't change that! I took a couple of months after move in before I posted a review in order to settle in and really experience the community and I am surer than ever that I made the right choice.
Do not move here. Parking is awful and they are now charging just to park "close" to the building. Cars have been broken into. The elevators are ALWAYS broken. The ground floor smells like trash all the time. Outside the building has an offensive putrid urine odor. Gnats are all over the place. Even when the elevator works, you will sometimes have to step up or down to get out because it doesn't always line up with the floor when the doors open. You will think you're going to be trapped in the elevator at least once a week due to the alarming sounds and shakes. The apartments are hot, the AC unit sucks. No garbage disposal. The laundry room is extremely expensive. This company does not care about its residents. For the rent they charge, you are better off living somewhere else.
Under new management, and currently undergoing renovations. The renovated units are beautiful, and offer a lot is space that you just can't find in newer builds. There is a beautiful, large swimming pool right on the Potomac, with lounge areas to keep you out of the sun, if you like. There is also a convenience store on-site. The only downside is having a laundry room, rather than w/d in unit. However, for the prime location, tons of space, and fabulous neighbors, the price is quite affordable. Did I mention it's also dog friendly?! What more could you ask for?!!!
This apartment complex is convient to bus lines and local eateries. Great location overlooking the Potomac river and national harbor. It has a nice gym. Great pool and great community atmosphere. People and staff are friendly. Pet friendly with park, bike paths and short walk to old town proper.
Great community and worth it but the remodel is said everything new in old town but still old heating, electronic, and plumbing. Great views and like I said worth it but behind the walls its an old building.
Moving duty station to duty station can be stressful in the military. Bridgeyard apartment is on a beautiful landscape and is around everything from DC to MD. Newly renovated the rooms look great! Leasing office is awesome and offered many specials and waivers for active duty personnel! Rent is harsh out in the area because it's so expensive but this place is worth every penny! I've noticed bad reviews from the renovation timeframe and I understand why people stressed that! This place looks like it's almost complete with their new apartments! Would recommend this place if you are stationed near Alexandria!!
I've lived here for a little over 4 years and have been through some changes with this property so I will be honest and fair in my review. Pros: AWESOME LOCATION! I truly believe you can't get a better location in Alexandria. Great dining and nightlife arw right outside your front door, along with firework shows (if you're really fortunate you will end up in a unit with windows that face the harbor or overlook the Woodrow Wilson Bridge). I spent a couple NYE's in the comfort of my home with loved ones toasting to the New Year as we watched the fireworks from my living room window. The trails and dog parks and beautiful. It's a serene walk to the Torpedo Factory/Marina. Being an older building it's sturdy and sound. In my time here I rarely heard my neighbors around me. Cons: Ownership has changed. The surrounding community has as well. You now have those "luxury apartments" springing up like weeds in the area forcing preexisting complexes to add "new and improved" this and that which drives the price of rent through the roof. I can't see paying $1800 for a one bedroom that doesn't have central heating and cooling at minimum. The water is constantly being turned off in the building for repairs, and in the last 6 months rats and mice have cime the newest tenants. Tenants who have lived here for over 20 years are being forced to leave due to the increased rent fir construction that is nowhere near finished. Rent can no longer be paid by check. All payments must be done online. What about those older tenants who aren't technically savvy and are more comfortable with their paper checks and reciepts? But nothing is perfect and if the pros outweigh the cons and you can afford it you will likely enjoy living here.
I lived here 7 years ago when it was owned by VDOT, and it has improved immensely (new water lines, new windows, renovations). I moved back because I love the location, the apartments are spacious, and the closets are big enough for my clothes addiction. If you have any issues, the maintenance staff is on site and quick and efficient. The location is great, the renters are friendly, and the leasers have done fun things like movie night outdoors for free. I can ride my bike on the path right outside, and when my car is in the shop, there is a bus stop on site. Walking to parks this close to the city is really nice. My only complaint is there is no recycling, so I have to take all my recycling under the bridge to the recycling center.
This is the perfect building if you have a canine companion, great restaurants and shopping within walking distance. The common areas are well maintained and everyone I've encountered has been very friendly. Unlike other apartments in this area, it has a pool, lounge chairs and dining tables and a spectacular view of the Potomac. It’s like having waterfront property without the inflated costs and maintenance.
Residents are treated poorly and the apartment windows, doors, kitchen and bathroom are outdated, old and disgusting. Was told we would have a renovated apartment in June to move into, it's September > still waiting and all we get is "we don't know what's happening". We would never recommend a LAMAR community to a friend.
I love this place! I've been living here for 3 years now! it has everything you need, gym laundry and pool. They are fixing up the place a lot. I can't wait to see it when it's all done!!
