Historically one of the economic and cultural powerhouses of the Midwest, Detroit is full of people who are working towards redevelopment and revitalization. Known as the origin of the automobile industry, the Motor City is moving towards a future of economic opportunity with roots far beyond the world of cars. The cost of living is low while rental rates for apartments, condos, and houses are highly attractive for any budget.
Monuments paying tribute to Detroit’s rich history are everywhere while astonishing architecture and public artwork is scattered throughout the city. As the birthplace of Motown, Detroit has a long tradition of producing legendary musicians like Diana Ross and Stevie Wonder. This tradition continues today and it’s easy to find live performances from every genre.
The city is a great destination for sports lovers as one of the few American cities with major leagues in football, baseball, basketball, and hockey.

Property Ratings at Briggs Houze
The good: location The bad: thin walls, thin doors (you will hear everything in the halls), paint falling off, terrible windows in non-updated units (you can feel the wind through the cracks in the frame), no parking during game days/events because non-residents sneak in, loud heating/cooling unit (lots of random clanging), only able to either heat or cool unit at once (apartment decides when to switch over to heat), and make sure you ask for a document to write down the issues with the apartment when moving in; otherwise, they likely won't give you one, and you'll be liable for any damages occuring prior to you moving in I have never written an apartment review before, but I felt compelled to after another sleepless night of hearing furniture being moved around in the apartment above me. Nice views, though
Ever since January the heaters been having problems. They said they are working on it but it’s been over two months. The temperature gets to 50 degrees in rooms. I don’t know what to do anymore
A horrible place to live and management is terrible! I did not have heat all winter and still had to pay my rent in full. I sent a letter certified mail indicating I would break my lease due to the situation and still gave 60 days' notice! Later I received a letter demanding I pay my rent in full. I reached out 5 times via phone, email, and the Briggs website to discuss the situation and did not hear back. 4 months later, I receive another letter demanding payment. I am only paying because I do not want to have to interact with this property ever again!!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Currently living at Briggs Houze. The location is fantastic- walking distance to everything downtown has to offer and easy access to the QLINE to go to midtown. The management company is fantastic. Managers and employees working at this building are courteous, friendly, professional, and eager to help and solve any problems you might come across. Taela and Catherine are especially great. The community is great too- plenty of friendly residents to make you feel right at home. Highly recommend it.
Had no heat the entire winter, barely got any discounts from it. Original management company quit partway through winter, new company came in. The thermostats in the apartments never have accurate temperature readings. Slowest elevators in the city of Detroit, that you cannot fit any items into. Overpriced for where it is. You have to deal with a club potential he being opened in your building. Parking is expensive.
The Briggs Houze is the best community in Downtown Detroit. The management team always goes out of their way to solve any issues you might have. Both Catherine and Taela are so caring, and always give my puppy treats when we come in after a walk. They also set up happy hours and breakfasts for the building, and do a fabulous job communicating with the residents via email. They make you feel like you are part of a Briggs Houze family, and we really appreciate that since we are both from out of state. The finishes at the Briggs are right up my alley. I love the fact that the owner kept the vintage charm, but featured a beautiful renovation. Another reason we chose the Briggs was because of their awesome gym space. The gym is quite spacious, unlike many communities downtown. Another perk is the awesome people that live at Briggs. We haven't met once person we didn't enjoy. Basically, Briggs is the best choice of apartments in Detroit. We don't see ourselves anywhere else but here.
The newly renovated Briggs Houze apartments leave just enough of the original building style. These touches give a unique feel to this apartment community. It is conveniently located - within walking distance to pretty much anything you could possibly want to do in downtown Detroit. The management team is truly concerned about the experience of the tenants and is quick to act or respond. I am quite satisfied with the accommodations that are delivered for the price.
It's been a long and winding road since I first contacted Briggs House (I refuse to spell it with the 'z' - it's tacky) back in June of 2016. After many delays, the building finally opened in November. I'm pleased with my apartment- they've done a great job refurbishing the building/rooms. I really prefer the wood floors at Briggs compared to what I saw at Broderick - much cleaner look, carpet is gross. The kitchen furnishings are adequate, the shower 'system' is quite uh, elaborate. Having access to Rocket Fiber is awesome. I'm happy they have a cleaning crew come in every day and clean the lobby/common areas. The view from my apartment (ahem) is one of the nicest in the city. I know this because I have a largely unobstructed view of the Ambassador Bridge and the new Wings stadium. Eat your heart out, Kales Building. Anyways, a few items that management can work on to earn that fifth star - 1) There's a puddle in the parking that stays for a day or two after it rains. Please fix the sewer drain. 2) The 2nd elevator still isn't working. 3) The comm system will call your phone but pressing # won't actually unlock the door for the guest. 4) The workout room isn't completed. These are relatively minor things though, so I'm 4/5 star happy.
If the charm of the historical value doesn't grab you, then the culture of being in Downtown Detroit with awesome amenities definitely will! Fresh newly remodeled apartments with a historical feel that just makes you feel "good ol' home comfort"!!!
