Property Ratings at The Brittany
This building is filthy. Nothing is ever cleaned or maintained. We have gone through 5 managers in the last year and none of them care about your issues. I spent almost my entire year trying to get issues fixed that existed when I moved in. My unit has been over 90 degrees for the last month and the AC is still not turned on. DO NOT MOVE HERE.
The landlords do not care at all about the tenants! Problems in the apartments such as leaking faucets, peeling paint, cockroaches, and mice can go months without being addressed. All that the Brittany wants is your money, and then they will never fix another problem. They seem nice when you first move in since they want to get you to sign a lease, but be warned. Stay away at all costs, there are much nicer and more reasonably priced apartments in the area.
No more construction as mentioned in another review. I am giving 5 stars because the building is very clean and no rodent/insect problem. Overall cannot hear neighbors except for this very loud family across the hall who blasts music/has musical practices. No amenities besides a laundry room and limited parking spaces available. My biggest complaint is the new building manager (old manager was wonderful). Unresponsive. Difficult time getting simple things fixed/questions answered. She says "I will email/contact you by the end of the day" and never sends an email or calls back period. When I called to complain about her, the woman who answered the phone said she was a good employee and wouldn't listen to my complaint. Other than that, reasonably priced and CLEAN building. From viewing other apartments in the area I have noticed apartments in the same price range are not as clean.
I moved in September 2015 and was told that the construction in the building would be wrapped up in November 2015. Needless to say it is July 2016 and still living in a construction zone with no end in sight and no discount in rent. Throughout the winter and spring it was common to wake up to jackhammers either in the lobby or on each floor and the sounds of hammers and men walking on the roof. In June the A/C was broken for multiple days for the entire building and when I asked management about it, they just said they were working on it without any concern that my unit was over 90 degrees. Three days later the A/C is back, but the coolest my apartment will get to is 78 degrees. With all of this construction any time they needed to enter my apartment the most notice I got was two days and as little as a 30 notice by phone call. The finall straw for me giving them the benefit of the doubt and hoping that after the construction it would be a nice place to live was being charged 25$ for a maintenance call. After spending 6 years in the navy living all over the world and in tons of different barracks and apartments, this is the worst one I have ever lived in. Save yourself and rent an apartment somewehere else where you will pay the same amount and get much more.
(I submitted this earlier on the afternoon of Sept. 28, but I am unable to retrieve it on your website now. I am resubmitting, therefore.) My husband and I moved into a spacious 2-bedroom apartment September 2010. When he died May 2015, it was reasonable for me to move into a 2-bedroom apartment. However, I did not want to leave The Brittany and was fortunate that a 1-bedroom of my choice became available. *These are the reasons that I like living here, a 72-unit building on a main avenue. *The floor plans are well-designed and variable. *The two apartments I have lived in have two large, somewhat square closets with rods and shelves plus a small closet by the outside door. *There are balconies for all apartments except on Floor 1. *Good-sized windows let in natural light. *The apartments are presented in good, clean condition to new tenants. Most have updated appliances, fixtures and carpeting. *If there is a maintenance problem, it usually gets fixed promptly. *The residents are a sampling of the general population. *It is a rent-controlled property. The rent is reasonable, but there will be a surcharge for capital improvements to the lobby, halls and laundry room and access to WiFi. *There is a tenants association. *There is an established, magnificent small town Main Street from The Brittany to Chevy Chase Circle so residents can walk to do most errands and be entertained. *A bus stop is across the corner, and there is a cross-town bus stop two blocks up to the nearby Metro station. *Controlled-access surface parking is available for 28 assigned spaces for a reasonable monthly fee. *As you can suppose from what I've listed, I think that The Brittany is a special place to live.
