Hamden, aka the “Land of the Sleeping Giant,” is a verdant city spanning north of New Haven. This charming city is in a lush, mountainous setting where outdoor recreation abounds. For breathtaking views of the Sleeping Giant, head to its namesake park or explore the rugged terrain at West Rock Ridge and Brooksvale Park. Laid-back adventures are provided by golf courses, community parks, and Lake Whitney.
The southern half of Hamden, closest to New Haven, accounts for the busier commercial sections of town. Shopping centers, office complexes, and well-populated residential areas make up most of this side of town. The southern edges of Hamden partially contain both the Southern Connecticut State University Campus and the Albertus Magnus College, making Hamden appealing to those associated with the colleges. Renters looking for a place that offers both city life and mountain life will be drawn to Hamden.

Property Ratings at Broadmoor
Julien gave a great tour, answered all the questions we had in the moment. However, you do not see the apartment that you will be moving into, you see the show apartment which is staged. When I had follow up questions that I emailed, I never got a response.
I would not recommend living here due to poor management and numerous ongoing issues that make it feel unlivable. Maintenance requests are routinely ignored unless you call multiple times. For example, my neighbor's shower leaked into my shower for months before it was finally addressed after countless follow-ups. The kitchen light had a wiring issue when we moved in, and it took months to get it fixed. Additionally, we often had to have a family member stay at our apartment just to let workers in because management would never respond to requests for assistance, especially since we have a dog. This happened on multiple occasions. The property is also not safe. There have been several incidents of license plates being stolen, cars broken into, and motorcycles stolen. The building only has one trash bin, which is inconveniently located and causes residents to leave their trash in common areas. There’s no cleaning crew to maintain the property, and common areas are often dirty and poorly kept. Pet owners are also a problem here — there are frequent instances of pets peeing in the elevators, and management has done nothing to address this issue. Installing cameras in the elevators would be a good step to ensure the safety of residents and hold pet owners accountable. Noise complaints about one particular neighbor have been ongoing, with the police being called multiple times for unsafe behavior, yet management continues to do nothing about it. On top of that, there’s an ongoing rodent and insect problem that management refuses to address urgently, despite multiple complaints. I don't feel safe in my own home, and it's clear that management doesn’t care about resident concerns. It’s no surprise none of them actually live here. Save yourself the trouble and find somewhere else to live. Unlivable.
The garbage is always full. The hallways stink, they steal your packages. Maintenance takes forever and a managers do not fall behind. I've contacted them over email for 6 months and nobody still doesn't come. They switch managers all the time. They gym is with broken equipment... They raise prices but don't do any improvements.
1. Service is slow and poor 2. Robbery 3. Even you online shopping packages get robbed and nobody helps you 4. CCTV works but nobody is responsible for your loss 5. Manager is very rude and never give solutions??
Property Manager at Broadmoor, Responded To This Review
Our team is troubled by your review and would like nothing more than to improve your experience. We take these matters seriously and look forward to speaking with you to gather more information about any incidents. Please contact the office to schedule a meeting with a member of our team so we can work toward repairing your confidence in our community.
They refuse to answer emails or maintenance requests. If something goes wrong just bet on them not fixing it!! Or even responding to an email!
I wish I could give them zero stars. I'll post my experience below but the takeaway message is that you should NOT LIVE HERE. I lived here from 2014-2023. In those 9 years, the property changed hands multiple times and the state of the complex has deteriorated. Yet the rent price kept increasing. Here is an overall summary: Don't expect your security deposit back; expect the fire alarm to go off weekly (especially on Sunday nights); the complex inside and out is gross and people leave their garbage everywhere; we never saw cockroaches but our neighbors left roach killer on our other's neighbor's doorstep because they had an untreated roach problem; expect the complex to continue to send you bills MONTHS after moving out; expect the police, fire department, AND the FBI (yes this actually happened) to show up constantly; Don't pay for an extra parking space because the property owner took away the ability to have people towed out of your spaces; be prepared for significant water damage (there was not one section of our apartment that didn't have some sort of water damage due to leaking from the ceiling or upstairs neighbors literally flooding the place; be prepared for the occasional fire (literally there was 1 fire directly below our apartment - the fire department had to use a battering ram to break down the door - the door still looks busted to this day); Don't hold your breath for the maintenance crew to respond to your request; there are literally no options for cable and internet besides Comcast/Xfinity and they suck (I have Frontier now and I'm much happier!); The pool is gross (literally it was green one day when they were open. GREEN); they charge you $50 for upkeep of the fitness center and yet most of the machines are broken and there's not a great selection, also the door to the fitness center was broken and unlocked for a year before they finally "fixed" it; expect people to smoke cigarettes in the lobby and stairwells; don't have any packages mailed here because they will be stolen! Expect to not have A/C until the middle of June and they also delay turning on the heat. For most of 2022, we didn't have any heat or hot water. I reached the character limit.
i wouldnt even rate this apartment one star. leasing Manager is very nasty and rude. Agent arent helpful. Please dont move here
Dirty infested hallways. Always smells Like cigarettes and weed. Dirty and digesting and infested with roaches and mice. One working elevator for over 6 months. Garbage is always left by the incinerator as of its a garbage reciprocal. Don’t waste your time money or dignity. Do yourself a favor look for another place to live.
I lived here for two years, from 2020-2022 and so happy I finally moved. The hallways are always dirty and smell disgusting, I’d always hold my breath walking to the elevator and cover my mouth and nose if I had to take the stairs. Neighbors throw parties in the middle of the week and you can hear everything through the walls. Rent is way too high for the quality.. you can never get ahold of the office. Property manager is a joke. I’ve been out for 3 months and have yet to receive my security deposit back despite speaking with manager multiple times and being told it’s in the mail… I would absolutely find somewhere else to live.
Since day 1 the apartment has been leaking in 3 spots now. I’ve reported this several times now with no fix. The dryer doesn’t dry my clothes even after getting it replaced and cleaned. The place looks nice but has not been kept up well and maintenance has told us there is nothing they can do until the property manager fixes the roof.
We had roaches and made so many complaints and they did nothing about it. Management is rude and doesn’t do their job. This place is incredibly unsafe and gross. Live anywhere else
Pathetic Experience with Broadmoor Apts. Property manager is a shame and misbehaves with everyone and uses foul language. No hot water in the taps from last 1 month and there are nails in the apt and AC not working. Car parking been allotted so far from the building. No microwave in the apartment. Washer and dryer do not work properly.
The first day I moved here I had my TV stolen (the leasing office was nice and replaced the TV for me). Your packages will get stolen all the time. I have to repeatedly submit the same work orders because they get marked as completed when nothing was done. The hot or cold water just stops working or they turn it off without telling tenets (which resulted in me almost getting burned in the shower). They had a water main leak that poured water into the road in the winter (so it made the entire road covered in ice) that went on for months. I sure somehow the tenants paid for the water that was just going into the sewer. I found ant traps in my apartment that I never put there meaning someone entered my apartment without permission. They do not give 24hr notice before entering inside your apartment and just come in whenever they need to. The elevators constantly break down and sometimes keep working when they shouldn't and violently jerk up and down. The dumpster is always over flowing, as is the recycling, spewing trash all over the complex and into the woods, playground and dog park. There are about 20 visitor spots for 700 residents and towing is strictly enforce, even if all the spaces are covered in snow. The dog park has holes in the fence and two gates that do not work properly that the wind blew them open once day and my dog ran away. Also the dog park is made of jagged rocks. I was so fed up that I fixed the gates myself. The leasing office is constantly under new management so you have no idea who you're speaking too. my closet door literally fell on top of me. my microwave was duct taped together and I had to threaten to keep my rent in escrow to get them to replace it since the entire door assembly came apart in my hand. The landscaping is lacking so if you want to go for a walk on the sidewalk expect to get slapped in the face by low hanging branches, which again I clipped for them since they don't seem to be able to maintain the buildings, their property, or appriate staffing levels. Not to mention your walls are paper thin and heaven forbid your bedroom borders a couple with no sleep schedule or a screaming toddler and infant. The building is so unlevel that when you cook the oil and water pools at the front of the pan even making cooking a pain.
The hallways are dark and dingy with a weird odor. Lots of robberies and vandalism on the property. Management does not care at all!! Elevator in my building breaks down at least twice a month. Not enough parking, the property is very dark at night. Overall bad place to live.
First time renting an apartment and regret choosing this complex. Maintenance takes weeks to respond to an issue and then will act like they fixed it even though they didn't even try. You can't get a package delivered in this place because everyone's gets stolen and then the leasing office claims they can't figure out who did it because the security cameras didn't catch the outside of the building. The hallways and lobbies smell and look horrible, constantly have trash piling up. I have had multiple conversations with the building manager and the leasing office where they promise to call me back and then never do. The building manager does not care and is very rude to the residents. You can also hear every word your neighbor says though the walls because they are so thin. Not worth the money to live here, the only good thing about this place is the somewhat spacious floor plans.
The hallways are dark and spooky. The apartments are big however you can hear people walking around the above floor. It could be very creepy at times. The Maintence aren’t great because they come in the apartment to fix the same problem a million and one time. And the worst part they are planning to increase the rent. I’m looking to move
Hallway smells really bad like a cat box and they never shampoo it entrance to building smells really bad, hole in ceiling tile in basement lobby been there over a month garage door basement left open nightly garbage stacked up to ceiling, not to mention the 4 or 5 leaks flash floods that we've endured over less than 2 years.
I couldn't be happier with my choice to live here at Broadmoor. Apartments are very spacious, and recently renovated with all new flooring and kitchens. Large well manicured grounds with a state of the art clubhouse and pool! Location is excellent, near all shopping, dining, & entertainment and just minutes from New Haven.
Love it here!!! Highly recommended!! I've lived at many apartment complexes in the past and this is by far my best experience. Newly renovated large apartments, nice appliances, great amenities and beautiful grounds!! Management is super nice and very accommodating! Best property in Hamden!
This was the absolute worst apartment I have ever rented in my life and I regret the one year I spent here immensely. The rent is overpriced for the area but the "move-in" deals kinda make it comparable to other places in the area. When you move-in they'll give you the towing company on retainer (Wheelers) which you'll need as if your parking spot is anywhere near an entrace to the building someone will park in your spot at least once every other month and you'll have to call the tow company to get them out; you'd think you could just park in the visitor parking when this happens but the parking close to you will be full so you either tow the offending car or you circle the complex trying to find a place to park while you wait for your spot to free up. The walls are paper thin as in you will clearly hear your neighbors to the side and below (seriously you can hear every word of their conversation). The building are old and dingy. The apartments are mediocre, a "renovated" unit will have cheap wood laminate instead of carpet that's shoddily installed. Appliances are old and nothing to write home about. Never order a package to be delivered to your apartment as it will more than likely end up being stolen (when you call the leasing office about it they'll act shocked and make up some nonsense about looking into it but you'll see that the thefts keep happening to you and to others). The leasing office is a pain to deal (this is true of both the old and the new company) with although maintenance is at least okay. Don't be surprised when you give notice of moving out they'll keep "forgetting" to give you your last month prorated even when you call multiple times. To top off your wonderful move out experience your move-out inspection can only be performed weekdays during normal business hours. Then a maintenance employee will come late (because you have to call the leasing office to ask where they are when they miss your appointment), walk around make some sort of half-hearted attempt to look at your apartment before fining you for something like the stovetop drip plates and act like they're doing you a favor by not fining you for more. This may seem like a rant but seriously I'm just trying to warn unsuspecting people to stay away from a truly horrible experience.
Property ownership is beginning to charge for utilities despite advertising ALL UTILITIES INCLUDED.
The apartments are great. The laundry is a little expensive inside the building but they do offer machines in the unit for a little extra rent. I like the area a lot. There are restaurants, shopping plazas, and several gas stations in the immediate area. Excellent access to multiple highways and the utilities are included (except cable/internet). I enjoy living here and look forward to staying.
