Property Ratings at Brookchester Apartments
What a nightmare of a place to live. We have been stuck here for three long years and are so happy to leave. From black mold upon move in to gas leaking into our apartment due to the failure of maintenance to light the pilot light on our stove to drug addicts living in the boiler room and peeping in our windows and constant roaches, this place should be ashamed to rent to anyone. Garbage is strewn throughout the community. Parking is impossible. Nobody, including the management cares. Our move in was such a bait and switch we were given a personal apology and a $250 gift card as an apology. Apartments are old and dilapidated. Run far and fast before renting here.

The apartments have humidity and mold problems and Brookchester receives complaints and does not solve them

This place has a major cockroach problem. They spray but don't seem interested in getting to the bottom of the issue. They also are in violation by renting a 1 bedroom to 4 adults. One of the neighbors pointed this out to me. The staff is rilude and inattentive. They write lovely apologies in response to bad reviews but it's just words. Stay away from this place.

If you live here you’ll need to deal with stolen packages, dirty pet hair filled apartments, black mold, mice and roaches in all the bathrooms and laundry rooms Also very recently, the addition of active shooters!—Someone was literally shot and killed in their apartment 3 months ago. The walls are VERY thin, you can even hear when your neighbors sneeze. In the Winter, every 3 hours you hear the clanging and banging of the radiator. (btw you have NO control over the heat.). The parking situation is atrocious, if you’re a 2-car family don’t even bother—parking isn’t assigned and spaces are all filled everyday at 4pm. They’ve had personnel shortages in maintenance for at least 3 years, so they’ll tell you that only emergencies will grant you a visit from a maintenance/facility worker. The office staff will be super sweet and really nice when trying to present the illusion of a friendly and competent team…before you move in. —After you move in you’re treated like garbage. They will take every opportunity to be condescending and rude.—pay attention to their tone when answering the phones. If you have no other option, and you NEED to live here, take my advice and document EVERYTHING. These people are just looking for a reason to evict you or keep your security deposit. Force them to show you the apartment before you move in, they’ll tell you it won’t be ready to view before your move-in date. Do not live close to any dumpsters because trash gets taken out at 7am on the weekends and the truck will wake you up. Lock your doors at ALL times and be careful walking around at night because skunks will get you.

The apartment is too hot. The winter time you have to run the AC all day and night. Still no use. It was showing 87 when i checked. So i called the maintenance. They told me to open the window. They said they will take out the AC from the window. So i can open the window. How can somebody sleep with the windows open.
Beware if you don't like large loud dogs. I have one living above me and management won't help me solve the problem. I have lived here for 11 years and would have given Brookchester a more positive review but this is a deal breaker.
My girlfriend and I are neat freaks! Clean and vacuum after every meal! Moved into a 1 bedroom at brookchester a month ago and three days in I see adult cockroaches in the kitchen and then baby roaches coming in through the bathroom drain! Took ten days for their exterminator to come and he put one trap down and said they’re waterbugs....1,000% they’re roaches! My neighbor said he’s seen them for the past 3 years and they are in the walls! Wish I could give this complex 0 stars but this app doesn’t allow that.
Maintenance final came 1 month after my initial request. I came home to find dirt trekked in from outside and leftover repair debris scattered about. Highly disappointed!!
I have lived here for 20 years. Due to job relocation I have to leave the state. Brookchester maintenance service is excellent. Whenever I had an issue, which wasn't too often, they were very prompt in their service. They are very good at manicuring the grounds and in the winter the driveways are kept clean of snow. It's a very friendly town and very safe. Laundry room accessibility is throughout the grounds and kept clean. Shops and restaurants are even within walking distance. I have recommended this company too many friends who were in search of apartments.
Everything is within walking distance which is great! I chose Brookchester because they are pet friendly and I'm so happy I did. Maintainance is always prompt. My neighbors are great; I am very lucky. The only issue I have is the walkways are not always cleaned and salted within twent four hours after end of snowstorm.

Whenever we have any trouble in Kitchen or in Bathroom, Ralph comes down and fix it in a minute :).
I only lived in Brookchester for a short time. My major complaint was the maintenance assistant manager (Stephan). I found him in my apartment on more than one occasion supposedly to reinspect work that was already inspected. I didn't like the idea that this man had a key to my apartment and walked in whenever he wanted. He actually came on to me in my own home which really freaked me out. That's one of the main reasons I did not renew my lease. I did not feel safe in my new apartment.
submitted 50$ and application from me for an apartment. said tomorrow it would be processed. next day I call them they say no apt available. I asked how is that possible? they tell u didn't give deposit. i said I was never told. ultimately had to find alternative.....when I came to see this apt I brought a coupon with me it was taken by a lady and torn off saying not valid.......too bloody rude !!!!!
I've lived here almost 4 years. Every year the rent has gone up. It's unfortunate because the apartment is very small and not worth that money. Parking is a problem in the winter, they do not know how to plow the parking lots leaving so many space taken up by piles of snow, the good thing about the parking is its unlimited unlike many other apartments where your usually limited to 1 or 2 spots. Maintenance comes fairly quickly which is also a plus. Just really wish they would not raise the rent every year. They allow pets which is great!. We're forced to look for a different place because it's to expensive for this very small space.
You get what you pay for. The rent is very reasonable. The building is in a great location, walking distance to shopping and restaurants and close to major highways. It's relatively quiet, except for the constant sirens from emergency vehicles (At least it's safe). However, if it weren't so convenient it would not get even 1 star... The building is SO outdated and in desperate need of repairs/renovations. The maintenance team never answers or returns your calls. They patch over anything broken with a quick fix that becomes an eyesore (I.e. years of painting over cracks) and forget about decent snow removal. The laundry is horrific, overpriced and always broken. The apartments are old and creeky. Overall, if you are looking for a place to lay your head at night, it's a fair place to live... There is just A LOT of room for improvement.
I have lived here for over 30 years, and could not be happier I love the town, I love the people and my neighbors and the police to me are the best there is.
This is a great apartment, the people are so kind and always looking out for each other ! it is one the few apartment complex's that allow dogs in this county and its still really clean! it right outside of New York city with access to the train and buses walking distance to my front door! The complex is located down the street form many stores which is very great! there is a school right around the corner so if you have kids they can walk to school
I live in a two bedrooms apartment with three kids and my husband,we've been living in it three years now,the rent was $1,250 but now it's $1,325 and they going to raise the money again. It's a small apartment but it's a good one anything that's needs to be repair they do it with no problem,we needed a new fridge and they gave us a brand new with no problem. It's a nice apartment but the rent is killing us,but I guess That's how it is everywhere..
I have lived at Brookchester apartment for 3 years. Like any other apartment there are pro and cons to living here. Pros: 1. Convient to train station and bus. 2. Close to NY (15 min from George Washington B.). 3. Close to shopping area. 4. Quiet area 5. Allows pets Now Cons: 1.Apartments are extremely small for price. 2. Heater is extremely loud during winter. It makes the loudest noise during most of the night. 3. Big roaches that are hard to get rid of. 4. Maintenance comes to you but tries to make you believe that your maintenance issue doesn't really need fixing. 5. Apartments look old inside and outside. Overall Brookchester is not a place to live for a long time if you have a choice. I've lived here for three years because it's really close to my job. I will be leaving because the rent is increasing and the price is not worth the size and appearance of the apartment.
I've lived here for six months and I haven't had any problems whatsoever. My apartment was spotless when I first walked in the door. When I call or email maintenance, the issues are addressed within a timely manner. I find the office staff to be on top of things as well. I sent an email regarding a laundry issue and I received a response the next day. My neighbors are great. I do not have any pest problems. I don't have any problems with parking (except one time when I came home at 3:00 a.m.) I do wish the heat wasn't kept so high or that I could control my own heat but that's garden apartment living and I'll deal with it. This is a nice place to call home. I actually love it here. I'm giving an overall of four stars only because of the heat, otherwise I would've given five stars.
I have not moving jet, but from what I have seeing , the service is excellent and very courteous people. I am hoping that everything continue as well a the introduction.
Unless you really need cheap housing DO NOT RENT FROM HERE, but please forget about your deposit when you move out. They will deduct 1/3 of your deposit for the maintenance, even though if you maintain the house very clean. They will deduct all kind of charges from your deposit, so please be careful. The people here are so rude it's unbelievable. If you want to extend your lease for one month for moving out, they will collect $300 for extension charges. The floorboards in my apartment got so hot I had to have the windows open all winter. I asked them about this and never got an answer, never any fixes. It's small, cramped, and feels dirty even though we'd gotten a fixed up apt. No one did anything. I told them about it and nothing ever got done.
Brookchester Apartment was the first home my husband and I shared together; it was a greater "starter apartment." The community is very safe, shopping is located near by and the apartment complex is close to many major highways. The staff in the leasing office truly go above and beyond for any tenant and genuinely make you feel at home. Which was extremely comforting to my husband and I as first time renters. The apartment itself is a generous size for two people; the appliances are new, cabinets are new as well. And of course the most important part, ample closet space! An additional key point, the grounds are well kept all year round by maintenance especially in regards to the snow. We are very happy to have called Brookchester home for three years, it was overall a wonderful experience!
I lived here for one year and love it. The building is conveniently located near a grocery store, shopping and public transportation. Free parkings are available along with garages for a minimal fee. The office staffs are always on top of their game and very friendly, the service department is very responsive and the neighborhood is safe. Overall, it's a great place to live! I would highly recommend this place... Steve
Stayed here for a year and liked the apartment community.
