Property Ratings at Brookdale Apartments
Terrible management. We did not have hot water for over 3 weeks and no reimbursement was on our rent. Roaches everywhere. People above and below you are also so loud, you can literally hear when they walk or talk. This complex should be tear apart.. There is no way it can pass from an inspector.
Poorly managed. After storm Ida, we had no cooking gas or hot water for 3 weeks. No discount on rent. Management sent very nasty and unprofessional communications regarding the issue. Laundry rooms are still out of service- it's been 7 months now. Roaches are a massive problem. The place is falling apart; the floors are warped and uneven, they keep popping up. Management never wants to fix. Takes them 3 or 4 tries to fix plumbing issues. The stairways are pitch black at night. Many of the front doors slam because they can't be bothered to fix the stoppers. Many of the front doors don't even lock or close properly. But it's cheap and the location is decent as it's near the 163T & 162 if you work in NYC. That said, I'm getting out of here asap as I look to buy a house.
This complex has a serious roach problem regardless o how clean you keep your place and extermination. Lately discovered a seroius floating issue as well. All or most ground apartments float and parking lots as well. To make it worst after las storm Hida or Ida on september 1st this year, tenants went 17 days without hot water and it's now the 22nd and no cooking gas as of yet. Also, they have no idea when they'll have the problem fixed, full rent has to be paid and those services are included with the rent. This is frustrating!!
Do not move in here, there is a serious roach issue it is extremely annoying. When it was the winter time the heat was not working properly the only thing the super said was to tape up the windows since the building is so old which was so not helpful. I am so ready to move out of this place !
I have been living here now almost a year, and thanks God, I have not read any of these reviews before, otherwise I would have made the worst decision of my life, not renting the apartment I am in now. My apartment is very beautiful, wooden floor, lots of room, lots of light. The kitchen appliances are all new. I have seen only 3 cockroaches in almost a year, and I keep my apartment clean, to avoid to attract any bugs. I have never seen any mice or caterpillars. I love my neighbors, some are loud, but still enjoyable. I always find the parking spot for my car, which is free and safe, as well as the location of this apartment complex, situated in a cul-de-sac. As for the management, anytime I called to fix some problems, they came right away and the problems were fixed, besides being very polite and attentive. I cannot be more happier!!!!
I had seen the reviews about the bugs and was told that they were doing everything they could to control the roach issue. When we moved in, there was a dead roach in the bathroom and ever since then, we have found more dead and live ones. Things are so outdated and our floors are cracking. The parking is a nightmare sometimes, especially when you have to move your car every Thursday due to the mandatory town order. It sucks because there is so much space. It is not worth the cheaper rent to live here. Try and find a better apartment. If you look at reviews and it says anything about bugs in the last three years, run! I wish I had done so, then I wouldn't have to live in fear that roaches are on my things.
If you are not from the Hackensack area, it is important to research the average cost of living here. This apartment complex is relatively cheap for the area and your expectations should be aligned accordingly. With that being said, expect very old buildings with outdated appliances, deteriorating plumbing and paper thin walls and floors. You should also expect some type of vermin to appear in your unit shortly after moving in. I have seen water bugs, roaches, silverfish and centipedes. Management is fairly responsive and the grounds are maintained decently, but understand, this is not luxury living. It is cheap and conveniently located-the hospital, high school, NJ Transit bus stops, and multiple restaurants are all within walking distance. If the pros outweigh the cons for you, then proceed.
MANAGEMENT IS CARELESS ! have only been here a few months, & already looking forward to moving out . I had to contact maintenance on multiple occasions for ISSUES. If you live on the ground level, you will hear literally EVERYTHING(STOMPING & banging especially !) your neighbors do at any &all hours of the day, &management will not do anything about it. COCROACHES! Parking is free, HOWEVER the lots are not regulated at all. Individuals from everywhere even tho signs say parking for tenants permit only, so if you get off from work after 6pm you are not gonna find a spot. A lot of cars with NY license plates. Just want to emphasize that management does not treat their tenants with integrity or compassion. I feel like a mere paycheck to them. There is nothing genuine or helpful at all when you reach out to them about having a problem, and they make you feel like you are BOTHERING them. I was literally told if I don’t like it I can leave. There is a thermostat in the apartment to control the heat but it works when it wants to . The turnover rate here is not surprising, In the couple months of residing here, there has already been at LEAST 11 tenants that I’ve personally seen moving OUT. Not a surprise. Overall, I’m completely DISAPPOINTED in having chose this management company’s property to move into, and I would not move here or ANY property that james e hanson management manages
roaches from the third week we moved in. no parking if you come after 4pm. loud neighbors who don't care. management who doesn't care once you sign the lease. constant leaks in the kitchen and bathroom.
I have lived here since April 2019.I am honestly quite perplexed that there aren't more reviews on these apartments. When I was doing my research before I moved here I guessed that the lack of reviews was due to the fact that there were no issues. I must say it was very pleasant when I got visited by a mouse one month after I had moved in. As it is my first apartment to move into, I had not been cooking at all so there is no excuse for there to be a mouse within a month of moving in. I called the 24hr apartment hotline service to request that a super comes to help me get it out of the apartment only to be rudely told that the super would never come to do that. I was also told to get a mice trap from the dollar store and that 'maybe that would help'. A month later, the faucet in my bathtub came apart. This just tells you how old the apartment is and how they have tried to salvage it by replacing it with sub-par items. Prior to moving in I requested that they replace the entire faucet and tub and was assured this would be done. The only thing they changed was the faucet-- which as I mentioned above, fell apart after a month. I also cannot forget to mention that it took three months of me calling the super and management before they came to fix it. I was basically showering from a bucket IN AN APARTMENT I PAY RENT FOR PROMPTLY EVERY MONTH! The lack of concern by management was astounding. It took me having to threaten to take legal action under the New Jersey Housing Act for them to send someone to fix it. THINGS TO NOTE: - Terrible Insulation - You can hear everything from conversations, to when your neighbour gets home, takes off their shoes, drops anything on the floor, walks across the room,if their phones ring you'll hear them, you'll also hear them do the nasty nasty etc. - Fridge is old and makes sounds. If you ask for it to be changed they will send someone to come inspect it and he will recommend that it is working hence it is in good condition. Of what good is a working fridge if you cannot sleep in peace at night because of the noise? Is it a fridge or a generator? - Everything is old. Old AC, old fridge, old oven. I hope this helps anyone thinking about moving here as I was honest and would hate for anyone else to get duped like me. The long short of it is do not move here. I am definitely not renewing my lease here. If you must move here, be very prepared to deal with all the things listed above in exchange for low rental fees.
There are 200 apartments here ask any tenant if they have ever seen a mouse or roaches in there apartment and it will be a 99.9% chance they say yes. The building is old & new management likes to cut corners. They have horrible patch work done for potholes(cheap), i have a hole in my cieling for 2 years already and the management said they will get there contractors on it. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!
We live here for 9 yrs now, and ready to move out. We been battling with Mice and Roaches all the time. They were spraying chemicals all the time, but the mice and roaches is just to many to get rid off. The building is 70 years old needs to be demolish. Also I would like to point out if you are late for just ONE day on your rent they will automatically charged you 5% and if you don't pay it, it will accrue INTEREST.
