The Lower East Side of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, serves as a microcosm of the outlying East side neighborhoods and the city itself. Destination streets like Brady and North Ave are at an arm's reach, as is Lake Michigan and downtown to the south. Dynamic bars and lounges rub shoulders with established cafes and sumptuous restaurant options in this hip hood. Parks and green space dot the Lower East Side, and abundant businesses and other services make it very walkable. Renters in the neighborhood far outweigh homeowners, creating ample rental opportunities. This area is centrally located, making it a great option for those looking to commute to the downtown area. Options for entertainment and socializing abound, enhancing the neighborhood's popularity.

Property Ratings at Buckingham Apartments
Elevator is always broken and has been like that for years. A response from the manager/landlord takes forever or you never receive one. They took a week to fix my fridge. They don’t care about your concerns/problems with your apartment. I’ve seen people waiting in the lobby for an hour just to do a tour and the manager never got back to them. The only plus was the residents were friendly. Best to find another place to live.
Good - If you pay rent on time the landlord won't bother you - General fast response if you need anything - All utilities included - No pet deposit or pet rent - Quiet. The most well insulated apartment I have ever lived in. I very rarely hear my neighbors at all and I have never gotten a complaint for being too loud. - They salt for ice very well, there is almost too much salt Bad - The elevator is constantly breaking, I would not recommend getting an apartment on anything above the 3rd floor. Currently we are on 2 weeks of it being completely unusable. - There is no air conditioning for the summer and during the winter the heat blazes at night to the point I have to open windows and run two fans at once in order to not melt in the dead of winter. We have 0 control over when the heat is turned on or to what intensity - The apartments are all extremely small. I would hardly recommend this for a single person, let alone a couple. There is no room to cook, no room for storage, no room for furniture. If you're a minimalist this is the place for you, because there is no space to have things. - The on-site laundry is unusable. The water does not drain properly from the barrel of the washer so your clothes come out sopping wet and the dryer is not powerful enough to dry them even after multiple dry cycles.
I've lived here for a couple years. The old property management company was great. The new one jacked up rent due to "market rates" but won't upgrade or fix the unit. The carpet is 10-15 years old (and it shows), the kitchen tile doesn't line up with the carpet. There's cracked paint and sagging moldy ceiling. The elevator breaks down on average 2 full days a week. The views are nice, but no longer worth the price.
Amazing value for the location. You won’t beat it for this area. All 1-bedrooms nearby will likely be $200/month higher on average, or you’re looking at studios. Admittedly these apartments are small. Very small. I got lucky and ended up with a corner unit at the end of the hall, which is their biggest unit. Some of the other ones I looked at couldn’t even fit a queen mattress in the bedroom. I moved in when a different property management company was in charge, and am lucky enough to be rent-controlled. My rent will never increase until I move out, which makes moving out a tough decision. Not sure if the new property management company is still allowing month to month leases like this. Pros: location and price. Also rent includes heat, water, electricity. I only pay for internet on top of my rent. Cons: apartment size is small. Building is rather old too. You’ll routinely hear water running through the pipes in the walls. And the radiators are old and clunky. I’ve been woken up in the middle of the night from the radiator pipes cracking.
