Gary, Indiana may be the place that lights your face -- not Paris, New York, or Rome. The 1957 Broadway show the Music Man may have put Gary on the map, but this charming city was around long before the legendary musical. Stretching along Lake Michigan, Gary was founded in 1906 and named for Elbert Henry Gary, the founder of a steel plant that helped Gary grow.
Situated about 30 miles southeast of Chicago, Gary provides easy access to I-90 for commuters. For those who prefer mass transit, the South Shore Line commuter train to Downtown Chicago is available from Millennium Station.
