As a suburb of Washington, D.C., Merrifield, Va., has undergone rapid growth since the 1980s, with an increase in technology companies in the area and the growth of the federal government providing steady opportunities for employment. The region has not always kept pace with the influx of new residents, but Merrifield’s transformation from piecemeal suburban crossroads to cohesive modern community with convenient amenities has already begun.
The intersection of Route 29 and Gallows Road has been reinvented as a 31-acre mixed-use development known as the Mosaic District. This area, named to honor the many different neighborhoods that encircle Merrifield, features shops, restaurants, a modern film center, a hotel, and office and residential space.
Located about 15 miles west of Washington in Fairfax County, Va.
