Clad in sleek reflective glass, Place 57 was designed by New York-based architect Ismael Leyva, who describes it as “a pure geometry of glass surfaces” in the project statement on his website. Featuring a facade with a bold composition of diamond-like facets, the design affords a multitude of views from the interiors of 67 apartments across 36 floors. “It’s a high rise, but it’s [also] a boutique building,” says Brandon Cohen, real estate broker at Compass, who has sold ten units at Place 57. “Because of combination units, give or take, there are around 67 apartments. That sounds big, but there are only two apartments per floor.” Besides the grand design, it has been said that one of the reasons for the building’s popularity is because it is zoned for P.S. 59, a public K through grade 5 elementary school with a high-standing reputation among Manhattan parents. Fun fact: According to Cohen, as a testament to how well-loved the building is and remains: the architect, Leyva, bought a unit and moved in 2011, nearly five years after its completion. Created by New York-based interior design practice Vincente Wolf Associates, the interiors feature a pared-down, calm-inducing aesthetic. There are mahogany wood floors, quartz countertops, spacious walk-in closets and floor-to-ceiling wrap-around windows with unobstructed, panoramic views of the Manhattan cityscape and Central Park. Kitchens are fashioned with luxuriously appointed finishes and fixtures, including matte white paint and appliances by Bosch and Viking. Bathrooms are sheathed in white tiling and outfitted with oversized whirlpool bathtubs and spacious showers with waterworks fixtures. With 67 residences spread across 36 floors, Place 57 comprises a mixture of one-, two-, and three-bedrooms, as well as one penthouse. A one-bedroom corner unit on a high floor with wrap-around floor-to-ceiling windows last sold for $3.5 million in June 2024. Similarly, a two-bedroom on a mid-level floor with a unique layout featuring a 13-foot gallery lists for between $2.1 and $2.6 million. The grandest of listings, a combined 8-bedroom duplex with a grandiose spiral staircase and custom-designed primary bedroom en suite bathroom last sold for $14.9 million in April 2009. Place 57 is a full-service luxury condominium with a round-the-clock door attendant and live-in resident’s manager. In partnership with Baccarat, the legendary French crystal maker, the luxury condominium is adorned with sparkling crystal lighting, chandeliers and decorative objects in the lobby and outdoor courtyard garden. On the third floor, the amenities suite features boutique-sized spaces, including a kids' playroom, a residents' lounge, a business center and a landscaped terrace with plush lounge seating. The main attraction is the recently renovated gym, outfitted with the latest cardio machines and weight training equipment. Residents can access bike parking and private storage space in the basement, both available upon request. Sutton East is known for its rooftop terraces in high-rise luxury condos and stately prewar co-ops. This peaceful enclave feels distinctly residential compared to nearby business mecca Midtown. More so, the new East Midtown Greenway, which connects 53rd and 61st Streets along the East River, has attracted many young families, well-heeled corporate types and diplomats (because of close proximity to the United Nations Headquarters). The tree-lined streets are dotted with local boutiques like Ideal Cheese Shop, Sutton Place Antiques and The Greats of Craft (beer). Lest we forget, the neighborhood is just steps from Midtown East, which houses many of New York’s most treasured institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Saks Fifth Avenue and Rockefeller Center. For groceries, residents can flock to Whole Foods directly across the street or choose nearby markets, including Trader Joe’s, Morton Williams and Gristedes. Residents can walk just four blocks south to Grand Central Station, New York’s largest transit hub. This terminal serves the 4, 5, 6, 7 and S trains and trains from the LIRR.

Place 57 is a condominium located in Manhattan and the 10022 ZIP Code. This area is served by the Manhattan County attendance zone.

Neighborhood

Some of Manhattan’s most iconic structures, from the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building to Grand Central Station and Rockefeller Center, are located in the busy, bustling Midtown East neighborhood. As a result, there are arguably more tourists than locals walking the streets – but that just adds to Midtown East’s endless appeal. As you’ll be living here and not just gazing at the architecture, you’ll be happy to know that not only is Midtown East home to some of the city’s largest employers, but there are also multiple subway stops throughout the neighborhood – as well as city bus service and the iconic yellow taxis.

Midtown East sits directly east of the Theater District and extends to the East River. It runs from 42nd Street north to E 59th Street, with the UN Headquarters in the southeast corner and the south corner of Central Park at the northwest corner.
