Known as “the Windmill City,” Batavia was home to six windmill manufacturing companies in the late 19th century. Today, Batavia is home to the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, a government-sponsored physics lab which aims to solve the mysteries of matter, energy, space, and time.
Batavia is the oldest city in Kane County, featuring a vibrant downtown district filled with historic buildings and sites along the Fox River. Batavia’s close proximity to the Fox River as well as a host of golf courses, country clubs, and forest preserves allow for plenty of recreational opportunities in and around the city. Batavia is also convenient to a bevy of retail delights in the Chicago Premium Outlets. Convenience to I-88 and the Geneva Metra station afford Batavia residents quick access to Chicago as well.
