Wedged between Hempstead and Levittown, the hamlet of East Meadow provides easy access to the rest of Long Island and nearby New York City. It is home to the Nassau University Medical Center, the vast Eisenhower Park, and the East Meadow Mall. At the center of East Meadow, the town square provides benches and walking paths beneath shade trees, along with a swimming pool and a gazebo.
Directly west of East Meadow, on the other side of the Meadowbrook State Parkway, Nassau Community College and Hofstra University are readily available. East Meadow is very walkable and offers access to mass transit. East Meadow's name dates back to 1655, when it was determined that the "east meadow" would be great for grazing. While you won't find many farms or grazing livestock in East Meadow today, it is still a very green, tree-filled area. While it is mostly residential, the Hempstead Bethpage Turnpike, where the mall is located, is lined with shops, restaurants, bakeries, and other businesses.
