Nestled in the South Shore region of Boston, South Weymouth offers residents plenty of small-town charm just 17 miles south of Boston’s bustling city center. South Weymouth’s many residential areas tout beautiful homes with historic character and quiet streets lush with dense trees.
While South Weymouth is largely residential, the community also boasts its own town square—Columbian Square. In addition to numerous retail shops and eateries, Columbian Square is home to historic landmarks like the Fogg Library, Fogg Opera House Building, and Old South Union Church. South Shore Hospital, the community’s largest employer and regional healthcare provider, is also located in Columbian Square.
South Weymouth is the former site of a Naval Air Station, which served to prevent submarine patrolling of the nation’s coasts and harbors during World War II, with the use of blimps or airships.
