When Brainbridge Island was first settled, it was named for a local shipbuilder by the name of Winslow Hall. In 1991, the City of Winslow annexed the entire island and became the City of Brainbridge Island. The downtown neighborhood is still called Winslow. Many Winslow residents rent apartments and enjoy access to a variety of shops and restaurants, especially along Winslow Way. This main street is home to popular places like Blackbird Bakery, Island Vintners, and Mora Iced Creamery. I originally booked an apt to view Camelia Apts (then Ihland Apts) as a very very close to last resort option for housing needed quickly due to a home sale. The rental market back then was so high in demand that even the worst places were so extremely expensive and out of budget, not to mention insanitary. Upon my visit, I met Ryan, the property manager, who immediately made a great impression and put me at ease. Upon seeing the unit, I almost cried given the experiences I had having seen about 65 other apartments and private rentals in just 2 weeks throughout the county. This place was clean, the landscaping beautiful, and workers fun and helpful. I've lived here for 2 years and recently signed another lease and just love it here! I live on a private courtyard of 4 buildings with 4 units each and it's amazingly private and serene for me and my adorable puppy and kitty. - despite living immediately behind a busy shopping center. Bailey and Halo love the floor to ceiling windows that I call "my pet aquariums" and I love being just steps away from essentials when needed. Yes, this is "home".
