Property Ratings at Candlelight Square
Candlelight square is NOT worth it. It is affordable so if you have to/choose to live there, my best advice is to make sure you know your renter rights and have car insurance! Also you’re expected to have all of the old, gross carpet that comes in the apartments professionally cleaned before you move out regardless of it being cleaned or not when you moved in (ours was not, we had to rent a carpet cleaner). So if the carpet is not professionally clean when you move in, make sure they do that for you. I had MANY issues while living here. I paid for a covered parking spot every month. My vehicle was damaged/vandalized multiple times even by the people who had been assigned parking next to me. The complex is gated but the gates are never actually closed. There is absolutely no security for the complex even though it’s advertised that there is. The apartments themselves are extremely poor quality. We had issues with nearly every appliance, light, door, and evap cooler. Maintenance was timely, friendly and did temporarily repair most things but issues would reoccur causing multiple repair requests for the same stuff. The main issues were with management. Every time we had to involve management, it was difficult. We would never get consistent answers, no one was ever on the same page, and it was really hard to get ahold of them in general. After the horrible experience we had, there was no way we were going to renew our lease. The constant issues with the apartment itself were affecting our health and safety and we were fed up with the unprofessional management. When it was our move out month, the manager tried to force us to pay an additional two months of rent. I was able to fight that somewhat but still had to pay an additional month for rent for an empty apartment. When it was time to do the walkthrough, they were super difficult and didn’t want me to be present for it. Luckily I was present because they tried to charge me for extra things. I understand that this complex is meant for affordable housing so it’s not going to be perfect but that does not give the excuse to take advantage of tenets.

They are rude and upper management does not return call.

We are very sad to see you have not enjoyed your time at Candlelight Square. We'd love to know more about your experience so that we can do our best to address your concerns. Please contact us when you have the chance, thank you.
Management is horrible and does not communicate well. Random charges for EVERYTHING every month without notice. The model apartment they show you is not what you actually will live in. Maintenance half fixes problems and creates bigger issues. Do not consider these apartments. Much better out there for the same price.
Property Manager at Candlelight Square, Responded To This Review
Le, we are disheartened to hear that your experience at Candlelight Square has not met either of our expectations. We strive to give 5 star services in every situation, but we have fallen short and we apologize. Please feel free to reach out to our manager Phil Ramirez at the office at your earliest convenience so that we can make this right moving forward. We appreciate your feedback
DONT DO IT. Management is TERRIBLE I know six people here and we are all leaving once our lease is up. They’re rude, charge you for EVERYTHING without telling you. I dread it every month when I go pay rent because they’re literally just that rude. I hate it here. I miss the old management ??. Let’s just put it this way. This is my first apartment and it will be my last. I’m buying a house becuase his place has been a nightmare and I never want a landlord again. Also the model apartments they show you are super nice! The actual apartments are DISGUSTING
This apartment complex is is fine for the mean time, but I definitely need to get into something bigger and closer to UNM.
Live in a nice clean gated community, excellent area, great office staff close by a walking trail and a friendly neighborhood.
