The only positive thing about this place is that the neighbors are mostly good people, but even then, there have been multiple thefts and car breakins. Maintenance is understaffed and under prepared, rent keeps going up, and we spent multiple months with no air conditioning last summer because they hadn't replaced the units, which should've been done 15 years prior. Any attempts to contact people higher in the chain result in the dismissive response of it being a, "Candlewyck problem," despite these same people refusing to Candlewyck the tools needed to fix the problem. We've also experienced theft from people Candlewyck has hired to fix things.

My nephew has been treated terribly. Patios all look like they are gonna fall apart. Gym hasn’t been fixed as was promised. Patios promised to be redone every year… 3 years later not once, and they love to charge you extra, then harass you with multiple communications, even after you handled it, then they do a demand for possession

I have lived here for 3 years. Constant break ins. Poor management. Door locks barely work. Carpet is from the 70s. Bathtub was ruined when I moved in and never repaired. Loud neighbors. Water is brown. They take 5 months to fix laundry that costs around $30 a week. Rent keeps going up but nothing changes. I moved in during COVID and this place has gone down hill since then. Bats living in the hallway. They want to charge 2 months rent and take my deposit for trying to leave. People drag shopping carts from the local Meijer. Trash everywhere. The gym is a mess, and people steal stuff from it and break equipment. They quote you for a rent price but then charge fees for everything adding another $100 basically, not including the laundry. You can hear I-94 all night as Semi trucks make tons of noise. Police are constantly blaring sirens nightly. People leave dog poop in the hallways. Uneven flooring. Urine stains on the carpet from the previous occupants pet, as I said, it's probably from the 70s.

When my sister and I moved in, we were told we had a first-floor apartment but found a garden level the day we were given our keys. We were disappointed to say the least but kept on. Due to the nature of us relocating to Candlewyck we were hopeful that amenities such as onsite gym/two pools would balance out. Nope. The summer of 2021 both pools were out of order and only one opened in summer 2022 (no confirmation was sent out on this). We found out when walking our dogs six weeks into the summer months. Very little communication. And the "gym" is a small room adjacent to the leasing office, filled with weight machines that are outdated and half operational. In my current building, the laundry machines routinely go out of order/are not at full function leading to spending more money on laundry (prices are ridiculous, too - better off going to laundromat off Cork Street!). While the leasing office works with their contractor to resolve this, it continues to happen, and this has led to a small fire since I moved in. This began prior to supply chain issues so not sure the excuse. Recently, there has been several cars broken into/one car stolen yet no communication came from property management respite it being reported to them. While I am unaware of funding, I have to believe a complex of this size can afford to install high quality security cameras in a targeted fashion. I am sure anyone reading this saw news about active shooter in August 2022- absolutely zero emergency communication came from property management. While the leasing office has been decent with communication on certain manners, the lack of security and basic functioning of property amenities are of absolute concern. Also, this place looks like a dungeon.

The buildings have faulty wiring that cause fires, the “security” does a terrible job as there are cars getting broken into every night, you’ll run into a homeless person rummaging through the dumpsters on a weekly basis, all amenities are run down and gross if they’re ever even open or operational, the washers and dryers are absolutely disgusting, every building smells like cigarette smoke…. I could go on and on. I wish I could rate this place 0 stars.
I've been a resident for almost three years now and since I've moved in everything has gone downhill with candlewyck , packages have been stolen by other residence I had a random drunk guy come to my door at 2 am for god knows what and he peed on my door! I called security the next day and guess what they did absolutely nothing they didn't even clean off my door! the security and office members are just horrible and I never have a parking spot when I need it because all the cars without stickers are in the spots! I wish I could give a worse rating cant wait to move out!
I called since info online seems to vary a lot. The girl was clearly not interested in answering questions or even giving out basic info. She huffed and sighed audibly about 20 times during my 5 minute call. How dare I interrupt her day to inquire about renting an apartment. Glad I didn’t sign with them already as it’s clear that they don’t employ adults let alone ones that cate about their quality of service.
This place use to be an amazing place to live. Close to schools and a grocery store. Due to recent changes however a lot of people have been moving in that are less than desirable. I've lived here for 7 years and this last year they got rid of any security we had. Now cars are broken into and personal belongings are taken. For the price we pay I would think we deserve better, and management seems to not care.
I have lived at Candlewyck for almost five years. Overall, this has been a good place to live, but there are a few complaints I have that I think are worth sharing with anyone considering living at Candlewyck. Management does not care about you, only your money. For example, during construction in the complex this summer I was treated terribly as a tenant. I rent a garage because I care about keeping my newly purchased vehicle ding and scratch free. I use this garage to park my car every day. However, there were multiple instances where I was blocked into this garage due to this construction. Management did nothing during the incident to fix the issue. Lip service after the fact is not helpful. In multiple emails they threaten towing illegally parked vehicles, but trust me, they have not and probably will not tow anyone. Construction continued to keep me out of this garage for an additional week and a half. This makes a total of two weeks in June that I was unable to use the garage. My request to management was to refund half of my garage rental for the month of June (half of four weeks in a month is two weeks). Management is refusing to provide me any sort of refund or compensation for this issue. I know it seems small, but that is exactly my point. Putting out a very small amount of money to make a long time tenant happy should not be a problem. Do not live here if you want to be treated as anything more than a profit.
What a great place to live, the hospitality from the tour to the move out was outstanding! I had to move out unexpectedly sooner than planned and they were so great about it!!! I accessed the gym and laundry and lived there during the winter months, everything was always well maintained! I will miss this place greatly!!!!
I live in Candlewyck apartments. I currently rent a three bedroom apartment and have done so for six years. I find these apartments very spacious and suitable to my needs. The maintenance people here are very timely and fixing things when needed. The people who work here in the office are very accommodating and work their best to me the individual needs of apartment renters. These apartments are little more on the pricier side but they are well worth it.
I have lived in Candlewyck for 4 years and still enjoy it. The apartment is affordable compared to many other complexes in the area for the same size, and it seems that the leasing office likes to continue offering your original rate of rent if you renew your lease. We have had no problems that make us want to leave. Though we are in one of the older buildings, maintenance is always very quick and efficient in fixing issues - you can report a problem online, and in many cases they will arrive the same day to fix (broken garbage disposal, A/C stopped running, etc - all were replaced or repaired immediately). The office staff is friendly and is good at remembering who you are if you come around at all (like to pick up a package). Overall, I think it's one of the best places in the area for its price. Super close to almost everything you could need to access in the Portage and Kalamazoo areas, I encourage you to check it out!
Best part of this apartment complex is it allows large dogs. There are 2 pools available and apartments are decently spacious. Inside of the apartments could use some updating, but overall it is a nice apartment complex if you don't want to part from your furry family members!
We should be moving into a three bedroom mid September. We saw one recently and it's very nice! Good amount if space for a family of five. Can't wait to move in!
this apartment complex is really nice and located in a very convenient spot. includes alot of amenities with the rent like fitness room, pool, large rooms, heat, allows pets, and has a laundry room. the noise isn't too bad but sometimes people up above or below stomp around. office staff is excellent and help out whenever they can, the maintenance is pretty average for apartment complex mainly because there are alot of apartments. overall, i rate this apartment as a great place to live!
