A former mayor once dubbed Bellingham the “City of Subdued Excitement,” an oddly perfect nickname for this delightful and unique community. Ninety minutes north of Seattle on Interstate 5, Bellingham is a charming small city positioned about twenty miles from the Canadian border. Western Washington University enrolls around 16,000 students, many of whom chose to live in the coastal Sehome area near campus.
Locals are quite enthusiastic about beer, books, and bicycles, and you’ll spot many businesses around town specializing in any and all of those Pacific Northwest staples. Bellingham hosts numerous community events throughout the year, covering everything from music to athletics; perhaps the most unique is the annual Ski to Sea race, a seven-leg relay in which teams compete to get from Mount Baker Ski Area to Bellingham Bay via skis, bikes, boats, and by foot.

Property Ratings at Canterbury Court Apartments
I have lived here for 1 & 1/2 years and this is the nicest apartment I've had by far. Although my upstairs neighbor (I'm 2nd floor) is very inconsiderate when it comes to walking around (typical guy) the floors do creak a lot! That said, these are very nice apartments and very well maintained. If I ever have a problem, it is resolved later that day or the next. The pool, spa and exercise rooms are always clean, the grounds are nicely maintained and management is also very friendly and always helpful. I moved here site unseen as I was coming from back east so I was pleasantly surprised and feel I really lucked out.
I've lived at Canterbury for a lot longer than anywhere else during my long life. It has always been an easy place to live: quiet, clean, with wide, well-lit, covered parking spaces, washer/dryer, and expanded cable included with the rent. I haven't experienced any sort of crime. The complaints about squeaky floors/ceilings are true (I hear the squeaks, but am basically unaffected, being on the 3rd/top floor), though I recently heard that the problem is being fixed before new renters move in; I can't confirm that - you should. I don't use the general facilities like the pool, so I can't comment about that. Importantly, maintenance has always been prompt and courteous, with responsive (current and immediately-previous) office managers. Rent goes up yearly, but that practice is typical and I feel the price is still competitive for what Canterbury offers (to me, so far, after nearly 15 years here).
The apartment is super dark single pane windows with no ceiling fan so moisture gets in and mold grows even if you use damp rid. The management switched three times less than three years, twice in the last six months of living there. My car was broken into at night in the parking lot. The apartment has cheepo fixtures that break within the first week of living there. Hot tub is ALWAYS out of order and broken..
The swimming pool is very often "out of order." Very often. I mean, a lot of the time. Just "out of order."
My apt. complex is build around a marvelous pond with a quaint walking bridge. The pond and its woods are host to lots of duck families, deer, squirrels, etc. with views from each apt. My apt. is spacious, but my rent is low - quite a find in a high-rent city. It's design is unique with lots of interesting angles getting the most out of the space. Large clubhouse w/ beautiful community room, indoor pool, gym, and barbecue & sunning patio. Only a couple of minutes to freeway but this is like living in the country woods
