Lafayette is located in southern Louisiana. It has the rich culture you would expect from a Louisiana town. Also, because it is a college town, it is very much concerned with education. People of all ages, cultures, and personality types will find that Lafayette is a pleasant place to live.
Lafayette has many beautiful neighborhoods. Different people like different areas of the city for their own reasons. However, the south side of the city is typically the most sought after. The area surrounding the University of Louisiana – Lafayette is known as the university area. This area, as well as Lafayette’s Downtown District, is more urban in nature than other parts of Lafayette. It is possible to walk to the school, local restaurants, shops, and art galleries. Broadmore is mostly residential and home to people of many different ages. This is also where the Thomas Park Recreation Center is located. Broussard, Youngsville, and Scott are small cities on the outskirts of Lafayette.

Property Ratings at Canterbury Square
Just love my 1 bedroom! Super cute and exactly what I was looking for! The management is easy and welcoming to talk to!
Property Manager at Canterbury Square, Responded To This Review
We're thrilled to hear you love your 1-bedroom apartment and have had a positive experience with our management team. Thank you for sharing your feedback!
Really happy with my experience here. I love the location and the management staff were great. I've only had a few issues with things breaking, but the maintenance crew were always quick to fix the issues.
This place will hit you with an ungodly amount of fees through your time here. Its stated in the contract but not mentioned during sign up.
I moved to Lafayette from out of state alone a year and a half ago to got to school at UL and moved here after I came to tour and had a pleasant experience. After my lease ended I actually stayed in the complex but moved to a two bedroom with a roommate and I honestly have no complaints. The apartments are really nice and clean, the walls are pretty thick - I don't hear my neighbors really besides the occasional dog - the grounds are pretty and well maintained, and I'm very comfortable and friendly with the staff. I love the location, far enough from Johnston and Congress to be quiet but close enough to everything I need and only about 10 minutes from campus. I felt that their COVID-19 response was good and overall my experience at both units has been great!
This apartment complex is everything me and my family needs. Spacious rooms, modern amenities, and overall fantastic customer service. I love that they have a swimming pool, tennis court, and even a doggy park for all the pet lovers out there. I would highly recommend this complex for anyone who is in the market for a place. Whether its a 1,2, or 3 bedroom Canterbury Square is where you need to be. Whats also convenient is that there is a school across the street.
This is a great complex in my opinion. The staff is friendly. Maintenance is okay--they were good to me and always responded to my calls, but my roommate begs to differ. She says that they don't ever come and they also made her feel uncomfortable a few times. I didn't experience any of that so I guess it just depends--maybe she was just being dramatic...lol. The neighborhood is very pleasant. Parking is great and there is no visitor parking, meaning your visitors can park right by your home. Free gas, water, and trash make rent much easier on struggling students. The location is perfect--close to the interstate, while still being minutes away from all the places you need like schools, stores, food, etc. Once you learn your routes and short cuts, it is a breeze getting across town, especially if you do it at the right time of day. The jacuzzi is heavenly. Nicely sized apartments. We can hear our neighbors walking upstairs. It sounds like they may or may not fall through, but everything is fine so far. The walls are not as thin as my last apartment, but I can still hear through them. I can hear some conversations at times and sometimes our neighbors' music, but not loudly, it is just that you will hear it if they play it loud enough. Oh, and when there are sports events going on, you'll more than likely hear your fanatic neighbors screaming yes, no, or maybe so at the TV. Bathrooms for each room is the best thing ever. They keep up with the lawn weekly, especially in the summer, so that may wake you up (always in the early mornings) when they are mowing or blowing leaves. There was a waiting list before we moved in, so that should tell you that residents like it here. As long as I stay in Lafayette, I am staying at Canterbury.
I wouldn't recommend this apartment complex to my worst enemy. I have spent a miserable 6 months here. The air conditioners are extremely outdated and everyday our apartment was around 84 degrees. Management refused to fix the air conditioning because it was "not in the budget". The pool is ALWAYS green and disgusting. The laundry facility is pointless, only 1-2 units work at a time. Sometimes they are all "out of order". While the maintanence men are extremely nice, the rest of the staff is rude and unwilling to help. For $805 a month, you can find way better places to rent! This place is NOT worth it!
As an independent(struggling) college student I knew that looking for an apartment would not be an easy task especially doing it alone because my family lives 2 hours away. I looked at 10 plus apartments around the Lafayette area trying to stay as close as possible to campus. I came across Canterbury Square, and met Mrs. Tressa who is on of the leasing agents. She worked with me for countless hours on and off the clock to ensure I have the BEST rental experience as well as reassuring me that as a college student my overall financial stability is most important. After crunching a few numbers I was approved for the apartment. I love the neighborhood, it's quiet, the neighbors are friendly and helpful, it's within 10 minutes of UL campus. The apartment was completely renovated before I moved in so everything is brand new even the knobs on the cabinets..lol. I would recommend staying at Canterbury Square to anyone especially an independent college student.
I absolutely love it here. The people are friendly and the office staff are really helpful. Any problems you have can be quickly reported to the office or the answering service if it's after hours and they will resolve your issue in a timely manner. There's a nice pool & hot tub, gym, and onsite laundry room. Residents can use the wifi for free near the cabana; and if it's during office hours, you can print, make copies, or send/receive faxes all for free. There's a free continental breakfast every Tuesday and Thursday morning as well as free fresh baked cookies every weekday. There's a nice cable package included in your rent. The walls are pretty thick, so you rarely hear your neighbors. It's very peaceful and an overall nice place to live.
