Property Ratings at Canterbury Square
There were roaches in the apartment when we moved in as well as rats everywhere outside! We dealt with a huge mold issue and they never gave us the results due to the ongoing issue of untreated mold my husband suffered a really bad asthma attack beware!!
Beware of RATS not mice inside and outside these units. Property management is very unbothered by this public health issue and instead of fixing the issue they pacify you by sending maintenance instead of a true pest control company. Been dealing with rats for almost 2 months and they are still getting in. Some neighbors don’t help by keeping trash outside on their porches which is a feast for this pestilence. Think twice about moving here unless you want Ben and friends shacking up with you rent free. No one should have to live in fear and filth from rats no matter how cheap it is.
A new management company (Gate Hudson) has taken over the past few months and has done an amazing job. They have replaced the roofing and continue to keep the grounds clean. The maintenance staff comes fairly quick when request are entered or if there is an emergency. Riley in the office has also been great help. I was a little skeptical when they initially took over because the property managment company doesn’t have the best reviews. However, they have made it a better place. * Great location, good schools, and decent pricing for the area and spacious units!!
Canterbury Square Townhomes are great. The staff is friendly the units are beautiful maintenance is punctual. The neighborhood is very quiet close to a lot of stores. Dunkin Donuts ,7-Eleven ,and the post office in walking distance .Short Pump shopping district is 5 minutes away in a car. When I first came to Canterbury Square. I didn't think I would be approved my credit is not the greatest so I was very nervous. That's when I met Gina the property manager she was great. She made me feel so comfortable in the process of applying she was very caring and helpful. She did all she could for me to be approved. She treated me as if she knew me and was just helping a friend. Then I ended up meeting her boss Miss Cindy who also was very caring and helpful long story short I was approved .They were so friendly they gave me hugs when I got approved. I met some of the other staff after I moved in and they were just as professional and attentive to my needs. I love my townhome I wanted to live in a house. So l thought that if I wasn't in a house I wouldn't be completely satisfied . Little to my surprise I would be. My town home was fully renovated ,stainless steel appliances, dishwasher ,microwave ,beautiful gray wood floors, in the kitchen and dining room .Laundry room, and a bath and a half. Nice little back porch with room for chairs and umbrella table .Very nice size bedrooms nice size closets . Beautiful wood grain in the bathroom cabinets as well as the kitchen cabinets. A pool for the residence along with a play house that's being built. If you are looking for a beautiful place to live, a quiet neighborhood, great staff ,and close to lots of stores. Canterbury Square is the perfect place for you to call home. I love it and the staff is great thank you Miss Gina and Miss Cindy and staff for making my process stress free you guys are awesome. Keesha!!!!

Since Greenbrier Management took over and hired a new property manager and leasing professional, the property is really turning around. They are passionate about what they do and you can tell they are here to help their residents. Maintenance is prompt and courteous.
New Management (Greenbrier Management) is really excellent. I know they just started, but they have been extremely accommodating thus far. Their friendly staff are very welcoming, and on top of everything. From quick turnaround on maintenance calls, to a very responsive office staff. 5 stars to them!!

I lived there for four years. And while it was dated, the property manager and company at least were consistent and made sense. About a year ago a company called UPA bought the complex. The threatening letters of fines and rules came immediately. They disabled the online payment site and then drastically changed the hours to M-F until 4pm. Who doesn’t have Saturday hours? Most apartment offices have Saturday hours! Their staff was a revolving door, you talk to someone about an issue one day, they’d no longer be with the company the next. When I moved I left my apartment spotless after paying professional cleaners. I have video. I had some holes in the wall from pictures that I plugged. I even wrote an email to the property manager about damage they were responsible for fixing that they didn’t. I took a video and pictures of my move because they refused to do a walk thru on my move out date and wanted me to come on a Tuesday at 11 am like I don’t have a job. They refused to give my deposit back and I am looking to sue due to the physical evidence I have and email correspondence with JR, who of course...no longer works there. Their upgrades are simply slapping paint over moldy cabinets and shiny knobs so you can see the BLACK MOLD I had coming out of my vents or the water coming through my walls from upstairs. Air does not filter upstairs so prepare to be hot up there. They don’t give you adequate notice before they come in a force service and fees on your home for upgrades you are supposed to have. Maintenance is a joke. The walls are thin and twice a neighbor has hit my vehicle and the property manager does nothing. DO NOT MOVE HERE.

Used to be ran great until new management bought it in October 2018, since then they have been saying multiple times they will have an online way to pay rent in 1-2 months, that was being said in October 2018 it is now August 2019. Still no way to pay rent online like we used to have. On top of that no one is in the office friday through sunday, so if you work like most people good look paying rent, they also say now any payment after the 1st is late when it was fine before between the 1st and 5th. Now if you pay rent after the 1st you are charged a late fee.So good luck paying rent if the 1st falls on a weekend when people actually have time off work. On top of that they mailed me a notice saying if any mini blind is slightly damaged we are charged a ridiculous fee. My mini blinds looked almost brand new. As if mini blinds are expensive to begin with. There are plenty of other options around the same price in the west end, so if you want good management and being able to pay your rent in the modern usual way I would suggest renting somewhere else.

This place has gone to crap! Last year a new company bought out the apartments and it's gone to hell living here I feel like I'm not welcome in my own home!! They send out letters saying they are checking to see if we replaced our broken blinds if not by certain date maintenance will be replacing for 10 dollars per blind and an 89 dollar labor fee! On top of that they sent out a letter yesterday saying now they want us to give them money to do background checks on the people that already live here????!!! I CANNOT WAIT TO MOVE FROM THIS PLACE STAY FAR AWAY UNLESS YOU LIKE FEELING UNWELCOME IN YOUR HOME!!!!!!!!!!!

Wanted to give ZERO stars. They never pick up the calls, never return calls, they do not respond to mails back even if you travelled 300 miles to look at the apartment and would like to reserve one. I am glad I don’t live here.

,we talk to them 5 times about it they never fix it , there excuse was there is allot of apartments have this problem , we waiting to do all of them one time , i am ready to move out of here ,too many problem in this apartment.
I lived in one of the 1bdrm apts for about a year and a half while I was working in downtown Richmond and I loved it! The office staff was always very friendly and helpful, especially Logan who walked me through the application process and then helped me again when I was moving out to make sure that everything was taken care of. The location/commute is outside the city but absolutely worth the price and the peace and quiet that comes with living outside the city rather than downtown. The neighborhood is nice and very kid-friendly, mostly families I think, even though I was a young adult living by myself. The apartment itself was the perfect size for me and everything worked fine. Maintenance was courteous and quick to fix the one issue I had with a leaky sink. I would absolutely live here again if I ever move back to Richmond!
I lived at Canterbury Square Apartments from July 2013-June 2015. Out of all the places I have lived over the years, I absolutely loved living here and only left because I got a new job in another state. Logan was my leasing agent and Wendy was the manager in my second year there. From beginning to end, the customer was excellent and they have a very fair lease where you can break it for any reason with 60 days notice...with no penalty. They only want people in the community that want to live there and trust me you will! Canterbury Square, thanks for being so wonderful! Even in 2017, I still miss you guys! Sue M
This is a great neighborhood for both individuals and families. The neighbors appear to be friendly and social. The maintenance staff responds within reasonable time after a request, and the management staff have been attentive and friendly thus far. The property is well maintained. The location is close to malls, multicultural restaurants, highways, the post office, hospitals and local convenience stores. There's a large swimming pool with lounge chairs and tables and spacious grounds for children to play outside. Unlike other apartments/townhouses, the rooms are very spacious.
The office staff were well-informed and very helpful. I did not walk through a model, but I drove through the complex, which seemed clean and quiet.
