Nestled along the Brunswick and Cape Fear River, Leland is a suburb of the waterfront cities of Myrtle Beach and Wilmington. This pastoral-chic town is near three beaches and other major attractions within the Brunswick Islands region. Locals spend their free time kayaking along the rivers that flow through town or traveling about 30 minutes south for a beach day. Kure Beach offers fishing piers and is home to a variety of activities including the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. Residents take full advantage of being so close to the beach, but there is also plenty to do in town. You’ll find renters buying locally grown veggies and plants, taking a class at the Shelton Herb Farm, or taking a horseback riding lesson at Wonderland Farm. If you want to access to a variety of landscapes at all times when renting, Leland is a prime option.

Property Ratings at Cape Cottages
This community is breathtaking. I love all the uniqueness appeal it has.
This place looks cute from the outside but crumbling before it's even built. No pool or even mailboxes for a year. Dead plants littering almost all the common areas with garbage overflowing due to poor management of the system. The false claims that these issues will be addressed continue and new tenants are told falsehoods to get a lease signed. It seems like a lack of funding contributes to the failure of this build with a small team of construction workers moving from one part of the property to another to start and not finish multiple projects.
The completed beautiful coastal cottages will catch your eye but be sure to look beyond them. I moved into a cottage with garage in October 2023 and started looking elsewhere for when our lease ends, in April. It’s not looking good here, guessing they ran out of funding/investors. None of the community amenities are completed except for the clubhouse which does not include that screened-in outdoor living room with fireplace. The pool and mailboxes are in the same condition as they were when we first moved in. You will need to wait while the one person in the leasing office fingers through all of the mail during clubhouse hours, if someone is there, and hope that she’s not missing anything. It’s actually embarrassing. The dumpsters often have garbage outside of them, and it’s not always because they are full, the doors can be difficult to slide open and people can be lazy. Vehicles that continuously block the sidewalks are not addressed. If and when you do a tour be sure to ask a lot of questions and if possible ask those that have been living here since 2023 if they would recommend Cape Cottages because the beautiful cottages that are poorly made will pull you in.
I was out looking at properties and as I was driving by, the beautiful color scheme caught my eye! Many different designs and colors of cottages that all come together very nicely. I stopped in and the staff was very knowledgeable about the property and surrounding area! Will definitely return when I am ready to choose my next home location!
