Located in north Prince George's County, Maryland, the Lanham-Seabrook neighborhood sits just outside the circular ring of the Capital Beltway surrounding Washington, DC. Only 13 miles to the west, all of the culture, art, and history of the District remains well within reach. This primarily residential neighborhood has a diverse mix of quiet, single-family homes and apartments lining the streets and a handful of popular dining, nightlife, and shopping options for locals.
Lanham-Seabrook residents enjoy comfortable living given the access to commercial amenities and a good number of parks, while also having some of the best access to surrounding areas. Two major roadways serve as neighborhood boundaries and Amtrak's MARC commuter train runs through the center of the neighborhood as well.

Property Ratings at Carleton East
This is the worst apartment I have even live in. I regret ever coming here. The utilities are old and archaic. The property management is not even doing anything about. The stove, microwave and dishwasher are old. No parking, no visitors parking. You put it tickets but the technician are not even competent in their field of work , the will fix one problem over and over. This is a horrible place to stay. Mice all over the apartment.
This place is a nightmare, the only thing that used to to be good about this place is that your package is safe, since late last year people’s packages have been going missing. Had two packages delivered to me today and by the time I got home, the smallest of the packages was gone, the last time my package was stolen, I wrote a post to the community website thinking maybe my package was mistakenly delivered to another person or the person might be nice enough to return it, the management refused to let the post published, when I call them about the issue, they said there is nothing they can do about it. At this point maybe it's time you people start putting cameras in front of the apartment. Also, maintenance is now zero, now it takes them over a month of constant calling to get things fixed. This is the most useless apartment I've ever lived in, it's 6pm and I've been sitting in my car for the past 30mins, no parking.
DO NOT MOVE HERE! I’ve been living here 10 months & this has been the worse experience ever. Water, heat, and air constantly being shut off. I can’t count how many times my heat has been off this past the & I’ve had to leave for the night because it’s too cold to keep my newborn in there. Maintenance doesn’t fix issues they patch up the work. My window doesn’t close completely & they told me they couldn’t fix it, instead they put tape over the crack to keep the air out. My wall and ceiling have been cracking since living here and it has never been fixed. Property is not kept clean trash everywhere & looks dirty. The pot holes are ridiculous & only getting worse. Mice infested even still after they supposedly filled my holes. Parking is terrible. Communication between rental office & residents is terrible. Any time maintenance comes to my unit the say the wiring & other things are not correct. I will be glad when my lease is up.
The water, heat, & air seem to get cut off every other week for “repairs”. It’s 40 degrees outside and there is NO heat. The neighborhood looks dirty trash everywhere. Parking is terrible. Maintenance doesn’t fix issues they just patch up the problem. So many other problems & not enough characters. I can’t wait for my lease to be up. If I would’ve known all these problems would come after moving in I would’ve thought twice about living here.
The service is very poor and I'm really tired of it. NO AC NO WATER, NO PARKING. We all got hot and my daughter has skin allergies because of the heat. Leasing office just knows printing notices . Inside of my home is 95’ “f” now. It’s too hot. And Our AC has not been working for almost a MONTH. Their laundry is always damaged and doesn’t work.
This complex has a variety of issues stemming from a lazy staff, A HUGE MICE INFESTATION, parking/towing and so much more. I was excited when I first moved in but by the third month I was ready to go. The walls and carpets aren’t sealed securely so there might be a leak here or a few holes from mice digging their way in the apartment. Don’t let the specials fool you, the price of rent fool, or the leasing office fool you. I was fooled!!! Don’t be like me...
We moved here cause we were in a emergency and it has been hell since. Leasing offices was going thur employees and services was terrible. Maintenance is terrible and slow . Our car has been towed multiple times because they know they have a parking issue and still allow them to tow residents and is very sad when u have to worry about where to park ur car at 7:00pm. And we had mice problem wen we first moved in took them a while and threats to fix problems . Nothing new about this place just refurbished
Living at Carleton east apartments has easily been my worst experience renting. Trash is almost always over flowing and almost daily we have notices placed on our doors about something being broken or being repaired. I have stacks and stacks of the notices saying your water will be off, your heat will be off, your a/c will be off and the list goes on and on. Not to mention when you report an issue the maintenance takes forever and a day to come and repair the issue. You have to call and over and over again to get anything done here. You have been warned do not I repeat do no move in here you will hate it!!!!!!! Lord knows I wish I would have paid a few bucks more and picked a better place to live smh.
There is NO HEAT and NO WATER right now and it’s super cold outside and NO AC and NO WATER in summer. They are just printing notices and saying no water, no heat and no AC.
maintenance is very poor or may be there is not any maintenance crew. They put tickets and then close them after several weeks and sends you an email saying job is done where nobody showed up.
This is the worst community by far! Management is the worst! Parking sucks, the a/c NEVER comes on as expected as stated in your lease and it breaks down every other week for days at a time, the water is cut off every other week if not every other day and the floor boards are so weak and cheap you can hear every step and everything your neighbors say and do! As long as you pay your rent on time you can do WHATEVER you want without any penalties, management won’t bother you! The neighbors are rude and nasty and the majority of them are of African culture! No since in complaining to management because complaints fall on deaf ears and NOTHING is ever done! This complex is 50 years old at least and you can definitely tell, they don’t put money into their community...the windows rattle and shake when people shut their doors or the weather is bad or windy, you can feel the heat/cold through them and forget about the window locks working properly. The balconies doors are even worse than the windows and getting the proper fitting screens for either are like pulling teeth! The parking here is horrendous, they’re are more cars than spaces because most residents have 2 or more cars. The trash dumpsters are ALWAYS overflowing and the residents are so nasty they just drop the trash beside them instead of going to another dumpster! The main management office is located in Massachusetts and don’t bother to contact them about management here because they’re ALL FRIENDS and won’t do ANYTHING about your complaints! All I can say is DON’T MOVE HERE...you will be disappointed paying high rent and getting a poor quality living experience! The children here are the worst they play in the buildings and parking lot! The best part about the apartments are the 2 full baths and the square footage but that means NOTHING when you have TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT and other bad factors! Act like Forest Gump and RUN! Save yourself time and misery don’t even look at this property! I hear a lot of residents complaining about pests issues that’s one thing I can’t complain about! However, they do have a lot of issues with pipes busting!
I have lived here since January 13,2018. I have mice and roaches running around my apartment. The exterminator said it’s a building issue. My kitchen looks like a mice war zone. I have caught 4 mice on my own. I use to live here in 2009 and the property was completely different and the grounds where kept very well. Which is what prompted me to move back here. However I have wanted move out since February. This is ridiculous. They have numerous stray cats running around th property, and stay cats are only around when there is one thing mice and rats.
My experience so far has been less than what I expected. Being as my wife lived her before it seemed ok but now the complex has changed. My building has constant smelling of weed with minimal assistance from management and calling or writing corporate (Wingate) is a joke since no one has responded in over two months. If you do decide to rent here research your building first if possible.
I am a current residence and I must say the Maintenance service is great...It has improved drastically. I placed 5 work tickets and 4 of the tickets were worked and completed within 24hrs and the last ticket within 48hours bc it required more time. overall, im impressed with maintenance. and the office staff are nice. The exterior of the buildings and grounds just need a serious makeover!
I have been living at Carleton East since March 28, 2016. I've had numerous problems with ants on which an extermination company was coming out yet the ants were still here. It came down to there being holes in under my window seal as well as flooring. My next problem came in with the HEAT not working. They came out numerous times "fixing" the problem but it rarely worked. NEXT once again the ant problem. NEXT AND NOW the AC is not working!!! I complained a month ago about my AC not working they came out worked on the problem then the maintenance supervisor Chris told me there needed to be a new HVAC system installed in the unit which he had been telling Lindsay for months. They then put a portable AC unit in (which caused my electric bill to rise an additional 30$) which I had to use to cool the entire house. The AC once again went out!! I've had two occasions in which maintenance has come into my home and the problem STILL is not resolved! I am ready to move out of this complex! Also the parking policy is the worst!!!!
Carleton East is owned by the the Wingate Community and it is a really good community to live in. The leasing office reps are really nice. The Maintance Crew are really good workers and always on time when you call to report a complaint.
When most of my visitors arrive at my place they usually are kind of disappointed but often wouldn't say. Maybe because they don't deem it polite to comment on someone else's home. I live in an apartment complex that is arguably the largest in Maryland. It is located just off US193, with so many small roads serving as inlets/ outlets leading to the beltway. The land-scape is not the type that immediately makes an impression on you from the outside but, it definitely leaves one with you by the time you enter into an apartment. Built in the late 70's Carlton East apartment cannot boast of being stylish/modern in design. But with age comes tradition, grace, and ample space. Thank goodness, there is such a thing as upgrade, with the upgrades, we now have granite countertops, stainless steel appliances hardwood floor and carpets on request. In essence, it's the best of two worlds - Sophistication and scale. With a good sense of interior decor you can make your apartment a heaven. I have done just that with a spacious kitchen with dishwasher, a picturesque balcony overlooking a few pine tress and a lush green field, a foyer at the flank of the living room, 2baths, a den, a regular size room and a huge master bedroom with a walk-in closet, central AC/ heat system and, I don't even need to pay for water and gas. My visitors, if they ever get to come into my apartment would always betray their initial impression of my place by their comment, which always sounds like this, "no wonder you live here, the inside is amazing". It sure is I would gladly agree. And when it snows, its a delight to watch from the sliding glass door that leads to the balcony. A 24 hour on-call maintenance staff who would even change your light bulb at the drop-of-a-hat and a courteous leasing office staff, makes my apartment very welcoming. So, to my visitor I would always say, "what's that saying again?... oh yes, never judge a book by its cover", you can stretch that to the lengths of Carleton East, Lanham. Literarily. Mak
I've been a resident for almost nine years. Even though though most of the apartments have been upgraded the complex is changing. The biggest obstacle is the parking. The management has tried various methods to control the parking but without success. The residents are not cooperative and constantly find ways to usurp the efforts of management. The apartments are spacious with good floor plans. The maintenance staff work hard to keep up with the demands of managing an older complex. The management tries to keep the the grounds well maintained but again the residents are not cooperating. So my overall assessment is this would be a very livable community if the people who live here cared more about the property.
Pros: I have lived at Carleton East for approximately 3 years. The apartments are larger than other apartments in the area and the rent is reasonable. They have been making cosmetic improvements to the complex which includes a new gym and rental office. The community is relatively quite with many young families. Rental/leasing office staff are typically pleasant and helpful. Cons: they have a pest problem with mice. They have an contract with a pest control company and maintenance will come and set traps however every once in while you will see a mouse. Also I live on the 3rd floor however have heard others complain about break-ins on first floor apartments. I have had no issues with safety or break-ins myself however I would recommend requesting an upper level apartment to avoid any problems. Overall, Carleton East is a decent apartment complex for young professionals and families.
Nice, modern accommodations ! Kitchen space is quite the eye-catcher, w/solid countertops, quiet cabinets, and a roomy pantry. Carpeted dining/living room area, (with sunken floor)spacious enough to entertain, but intimate enough to keep quality moments unique, and special. Functional den area, just in case there's a 'divsion' in activity, so that you can be separate, but not too far away. Spacious bedroom, and plenty of closet space. The bathroom is cozy, but not, too small, and fully tiled (nice touch), w/a cool cabinet for us normal people???. All in all, the complex is very nice, and centrally located (schools, shopping, hospital, and entertainment), but the real prize here, is the staff !!! Including the Maintenance Team, this is the most thorough group I have had the pleasure to encounter! Always accommodating, but above all, GENUINE !!! This is Carleton East. You should try them!!!
My review of this apartment is everything I'm looking for in an apartment. The rooms are large, kitchen is great and the whole property even though its large is very clean and maintained. The staff are friendly and I didn't see or hear any loud noise or people hanging around the property. This is a place for a family or if your single.
I have resided in my apartment home for 11 years, at Carleton East Apartments, and that is mainly due to the wonderful staff: In the leasing office, maintenance personnel, and management. In my opinion, they are fair and very accommodating. Communication is key, in any relationship. Actually, they are professional family members :-) ! Everything has been good throughout the years therefore, I will be staying longer and will upgrade into a larger, beautifully renovated unit and I cannot wait! As "they say", you would be HOME, if you lived here!
