An idyllic small town for commuters, the city of Altamont is a suburb of New York State that sits only 20 miles outside of Albany and 10 miles outside of Schenectady. Residents have access to job opportunities, historic sites, museums, restaurants, retailers, and entertainment options galore because of Altamont’s central location. This small town boasts a family-friendly atmosphere and a close-knit community, and is home to great public schools like Altamont Elementary.
When residents aren’t enjoying one of the several local restaurants in town, they’re enjoying the great outdoors at Bosenkill Park or Orsini Park. Locals have easy access to Interstates 88 and 90, adding to the commuter benefits of renting in Altamont. Although Altamont offers a convenient location, the town still sits a good distance from major metro areas, and is surrounded by dense woodlands and spacious suburban neighborhoods.

Property Ratings at Carpenter Village Apartments
I lived in this apartment complex for little over two years, I specifically lived in one of the older buildings. So here are some pros and cons from my experience here. PROS *This price of this apartment is good compared to the area **This was the only reason I stayed for two years was b/c of this *Layout is really nice, especially having the balcony *Location isn't bad **Outside the city and by a couple restaurants and the grocery store **However you're by a police station and a firehouse so you can hear sirens frequently. CONS *The walls are very thin and you can pretty much hear everything *NO CENTRAL A/C, which made me fry during the summer even with a standing A/C unit. (Which I was sold that they were going to put central A/C in, during my first summer, obviously never happened) **Additionally I was also told by former management that I wasn't allowed to have a window hanging A/C unit, even though other people had it *Old appliances *The main door of the apartment don't have locks, so anybody can get to your front door. *NO OVERHEAD LIGHTS *People are generally nice but I have had some problems with one of my neighbors due to the thin walls. **Which former management was no help for both parties at the time *They change management like underwear (Management currently there is good) *Can't ever get a hold of the property manager when the rental manager isn't there. *There was a fee, which I was never told about, that I had to pay on my deposit so I didn't get my full deposit back. *When I first moved maintenance wasn't good, it took them two months to finally fix an outlet that I found broken from day one, however they have gotten better in the past year. Overall, I wouldn't recommend if you can afford something else outside the city.
I moved in Dec. 2020 and have been pleasantly surprised. It’s very affordable, yet peaceful and clean. I work at home and have had no problems with noise or connectivity. My apartment is comfortable and spacious. I have an assigned parking spot right in front of my building, I’m disabled so that is important to me. My unit doesn’t have AC but I haven’t needed it. The grounds are neat and snow removal is on point. My cats love the view of the woods behind my building. There’s a grocery store, pharmacy and gas station across the road. Each building has a small laundry room, there’s a laundromat next door for when I want to do larger loads. All in all I’m very happy here.

What a wonderful review! Thank you for choosing Carpenter Village as your home. Also, we have cat treats at the Rental Office, so if you ever want to stop by to chat, we'd love to give you some to take home for your little friends!
I’m going to address some of the misleading stuff about this place. My apartment was $975, floorplan A. -Not all buildings have intercom entry. Anyone could just walk in -The kitchen is small. There's one drawer in the entire apartment -Not all apartments are air-conditioned. I had to supply my own -Don’t know what storage units they’re talking about -Not all buildings are smoke-free, and some tenants may choose to ignore that rule. Management either doesn’t know this or is ignoring it -My apartment didn't come with all of these appliances. I had to supply a microwave, toaster, and air conditioner. You also have to bring your own fire extinguisher. Some good things: -Cheapest laundry around. $1.50/per load, but you share 2 washers and dryers with your entire building -Easy to pay rent online -In a good location -Nice green space, lots of trees. -The property manager is good about getting back to you in a timely manner. Some not-so-good things: -There are no overhead lights in the bedroom or living room. -I gave the property manager a list of things that were wrong with the apartment that I wanted fixed before I moved in (rusted door hinges, broken/bent screens, etc). Nothing fixed -The screens became a big deal. They were bent, torn, and didn’t fit right. I constantly have bugs in my apartment. I asked for the two living room screens and the kitchen screen to be fixed, and the 1st time, they only replaced one side of the living room screen with an equally bent screen. The 2nd time, they only replaced the other side of the living room screen with a torn screen. I got them to replace both screens in the living room, but they’re still so bent that I always have stinkbugs crawling inside the screens. Never replaced the kitchen screen -They installed a pane of glass in front of the other side of my living room window when I got my air conditioner installed. With the A/C on one side of the window and the other side blocked off, I had no air in my living room. Took three phone calls and a visit from the property manager for them to take it out. -The bathroom is not great. Badly painted, no shelves in medicine cabinet, dead bugs in the bathroom window, no ventilation except for a tiny window above the shower, and the toilet often runs. -They charge $2/hole if you put nails in the wall -They told me that my rent would go up $10/month if I renewed Overall, I don’t think this place is worth the rent price. Hope this helps someone.

I live in a Carpenter Village apartment that has had a leaking kitchen ceiling going on 3 months. They have opened the ceiling, supposedly fixed the leak, and closed it several times now. They think the water is coming from the bathtub upstairs. Even given the inconvenience, certain unsanitary conditions, and possibility of mold from the continued dampness, Albany Management (rental agent) treated me with such disrespect it is just unacceptable. They even told me that I could no longer call the oncall maintenance when it happens since it is NOT an emergency. I have asked to be released from the lease - still a few months - and they denied the request unless I pay the remaining months. I think they owe me a partial refund based on the quality of life I have had to endure here. A Pathetic situation not handled with any degree of professionalism. Think twice before renting here.

This is a comprehensive review. Thank you. We might even use it next time we need a property description for an advertisement!
The space itself is alright, though personally is a little pricy for what you get. It's conveniently close to grocery stores/gas stations. Rental officuals/management could definitely be more attentive though.

We've worked on our pricing since your review in 2015, and we are proud to say we provide some of the best-valued apartments in all of Guilderland now. Someone would be hard-pressed to find a better apartment home community in all of Guilderland, especially for our price.
I toured Carpenter Village just outside of Albany NY one Sunday afternoon with Jessica, one of their lead staff representatives. She gave a nice walking tour of the beautifully designed landscaped grounds and the size apartment I was interested in. The following day i have a follow up email from them and recommend considering them should you move to the Albany NY area. They were very attentive, listened well and responsive to all my questions and concerns. Be sure to give them a call if you are looking in this area.

Thank you for your kind words. We try to do our very best to make you feel at home in Carpenter Village. And what better way to do that than to have staff as friendly and professional as possible?
The complex is very quiet and the people are nice. The location is perfect being just outside the city, but an easy commute if you work in the city. Management is very helpful and nice. The best apartments in the capital region for dog owners. It does not even compare to others I've stayed in.
