A quiet residential area, the Westwood neighborhood can be found northwest of the city center by three miles. Because it sits close to US Highway 131 and 43, the community provides a convenient neighborhood to enjoy daily life while remaining close to the city and within easy distance of Grand Rapids and Lake Michigan. Because Kalamazoo sits halfway between Chicago and Detroit, reaching those larger cities via Interstate 94 continues to be easy.
One of the things Kalamazoo has become nationally known for, the Kalamazoo Promise provides a four-year scholarship for all graduates of Kalamazoo Public Schools who have spent at least their high school years in the school system. In addition to the community college, Western Michigan University and the private Kalamazoo College call the city home. There are affordable rentals ranging from single-family homes to modern apartments.

Property Ratings at Element on Main
I moved in when this property was Carriage Green and owned/managed by a different company. There's been turnover in the office staff, and the current property managers are rarely onsite. The maintenance staff is great, and they've made some nice cosmetic improvements to the property, but rent is going up (plus the addition of a couple fees we didn't use to have). I've also noticed a higher incidence of noisy neighbors since living here. It just doesn't feel like the same cozy, kind community I moved into. It's still one of the better places to rent in Kalamazoo, but I'm not sure how the property will evolve in the next of couple years under the new management.

I've lived here for about 6 months and I really like it. the office people are nice, the maintenance people are extremely helpful and prompt. there is lots of available parking, nice neighbors, lots of space in the rooms. the down sides are the occasional bug or two, mostly in the bathroom, and the water pressure isn't the strongest. I would happily stay here for years except the no pets policy. I miss having a kitty and am not willing to fake needing an emotional support animal to bend the rules. but if you are cool with not having a pet I would highly recommend this place.
I am a single mother raising a 19 year son and we have been here for about 11 yrs.I am a 12 year cancer survivor and my landlords have been very helpful to me if I am late on my rent and has worked with me and my son.When the new landlords took over they made the apartments so safe for all of us new doors new pool and more lights around the building they make sure that there are not any unsafe things going on here and no drug dealers in any of the buildings.I feel very safe and it feels just like home here cause we all look out for each other.The apartments are very close to stores and a lot of places to eat and not very far from the highway cause Kalamazoo is only two hours from Detroit and Chicago.Great place for family and college students.
Most of the building complexes have been newly remodeled, the maintenance crew does a good job in fixing problems in the apartment. The location is surrounded next to a lot of local businesses and is easily a short walking distance to bars and restaurants. I currently stay in a one bedroom and it is super spacious. There are two doors that lead to the front and back lot. Although the apartments tend to get super hot if you live on the garden level near the furnace. The problem I have noticed is that there are occasional spiders and ants. The apartment complex is quiet at night and neighbors are friendly. Overall this is a great place for a budget concsious person.
